  1. ^ I seriously doubt anyone who puts stock in UZR would use two weeks worth of data to say anything meaningful.
  2. Again, what a clown this guy is. Stealing in a 6-run game is against unwritten rules? Somebody must have handed Quade a prank "unwritten rules" book as part of his initiation as a manager. Hey, Mike, now that you're a manager we can finally show you this! Quade soon comes to believe that it is against the unwritten rules to hit a home run left handed or wear black shoes while stealing a base.
  3. My wife and I actually are moving to Chapel Hill in June, so I imagine we'll (I'll) become familiar with the beer scene down there pretty quickly. We're actually heading down this weekend to check out apartments, so I'll have to pick up some Pisgah. Game, do you know if Foothills distributes bottles in the Raleigh area, or is it pretty much just available on tap? I've heard really good things about Foothills, so I'm hoping to try some. I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the beer scene in NC; Sam's Quik Stop in Durham is one heck of a bottle shop!
  4. Perhaps when people say Fielder is a "good defender", they are really saying he's just way better than they expected. I mean, he is bad, but he isn't horrendously bad. More likely, Gammons is senile.
  5. I just had Two Women last night, and I was very impressed. It's a different breed of Pilsner than I'm used to; it pours a light to medium copper with lots of malt character and moderate bitterness, but it has a nice biscuity quality and some grassy hop flavors. I'm still disappointed I'll never get to try the old Two Women, but this one is a very good example of a style that isn't often made well by American craft brewers. Also I had Imperial Weizen last night. It has a huge bubblegum nose and a bit more balancing tartness on the finish than I remember from two years ago. All I can say is, my list of favorite wheat beers is now: 1) Imperial Weizen, 2) Aventinus, 3) Dancing Man, 4) Weihenstephaner, 5) Gumballhead with honorable mentions to Crack'd Wheat and Black Wheat from NG. When it comes to wheats, fruit beers, and pilsners, I'd put up NG against anybody in the world.
  6. Sounds like Weeks will be back in the fold pretty soon, if Roenicke's words hold water. Weeks Hart Braun Fielder McGehee That top five does not suck.
  7. This is getting pretty funny. Quade is an epic pouter. Someone with a sense of humor should think up a great nickname for this guy.
  8. "I want to stay, (but only if Milwaukee gives me the most lucrative offer)". Not that I blame him.
  9. 5% seems like a pretty decent inflation bet on MLB salaries. The salary does look quite a bit better when that's taken into account.
  10. Blasphemer! How dare you rag on Mr. Plush! Mods, feel free to exercise the ban hammer. We cannot stand for this blatant disregard for Plushdamentals.
  11. Call me old-fashioned, but as a baseball fan I'd rather see them go with four teams in the playoffs and two seven game series. Of course, as a Brewers fan I like their chances of making it into a ten team field.
  12. Wil Nieves is a good field/no hit catcher who isn't particularly good at fielding. It's going to be really difficult watching this guy get 200 plate appearances this year. Hopefully they can find someone in a cheap trade.
  13. Wow, I didn't expect to see this when I logged on to Brewerfan. Here's my take: This is a lot of money and the Brewers are taking on a ton of risk by signing this deal. Braun is a bad defensive outfielder and will continue to get worse. I don't see why this couldn't have been done in a couple years, but perhaps this talk would have been off the table by then. Hopefully he'll be willing to move to 1B if he gets much worse at LF. The Brewers have made it clear that Braun is their franchise guy. It's rare in sports today to be able to cheer for one player for fifteen years, and having this guy in Milwaukee for his entire career is something we should all enjoy. I probably wouldn't want to be the guy putting $105 million on this guy for 2016-2020 though.
  14. I was mostly chuckling at the defense comment. I do agree that he's a very good athlete and a pretty good runner for a man of his size.
  15. According to Tim Kurkijan, "Not everyone knows this about Fielder: He's a good athlete, above average defensively and a decent runner." Yay for ESPN's "analysts".
  16. When I heard the "ruuuu" for Ruiz after throwing out Gomez, I just imagined they were booing Gomez. That made me feel all warm and cozy inside.
  17. The only way this story could be better is if he were caught shoplifting Braun's affliction T-shirts. Then again, at $75 a pop, that would be a bit more understandable.
  18. My favorite is still Ron Artest. From Wiki: "During his rookie season in Chicago, he was criticized for applying for a job at Circuit City in order to get an employee discount."
  19. Well Yuni, that was a great play. Please make me eat my words for the rest of the season!
  20. Not that it's worth anything, but I just saw Fangraphs updated their UZR ratings. Here are the two week scores for our outfielders: Morgan: +4.5 Gomez: +3.5 Almonte: -0.8 Kotsay: -2.7 Braun: -2.9 How is Boggs supposed to be in the outfield? I suppose he can't be worse than Kotsay, right?
  21. After two full seasons in the majors, ESPN's announcer is still referring to him as "Mc-Ghee-Hee" (where Ghee is like the Indian clarified butter).
  22. Nice surprise tonight, the ESPN broadcast isn't blacked out here in Iowa. This is my first chance to watch Marcum this season, and after just that one at bat, I have to say I like the guy.
  23. I'm a Brewers/Packers fan, and there have been times where I've been tempted to buy a Jay Cutler jersey. I always assumed kilgore37 was just a Packers fan who realized the value of Jay Cutler.
  24. No Plush against a mediocre righty. Kotsay plays again. This lineup would look so much better with Plush in the 2-hole right now. Needless to say, I'm happy to see Counsell get a rare start. I really don't understand why Kotsay seems to have this "veteran grit factor" while Counsell doesn't. Shouldn't Counsell be the ultra-epic-gritty-team player guy?
  25. Actually, most of us have been saying Betancourt would be horrible ever since the Greinke trade, and he has been horrible. Nobody has changed their mind, as far as I can tell. The reason people here are frustrated with Betancourt is not because of what he can do to hurt this club in one game, but what he can and will do to hurt this club over 162 games this season. With the level of talent the Brewers have, a couple additional wins could be extremely valuable.
