  1. This and gambling are the #1 reasons the NFL is so huge and will stay the biggest sport in the US for quite a while. When people's interest in those things start to wain, only then will the NFL see any sort of decline in ratings.
  2. I don't think it is. The bench is too short to use up PH early in the game with rosters at 25 men. I think he'll have a very short leash and a guy ready, but that guy will be the starter not being penciled in as part of the playoff rotation. 25 man roster but take 3 SP off that roster and add in 2 hitters and another BP arm and you're almost playing with an expanded roster again.
  3. Always surprises me how obscure it is when I reference that movie and no one knows what I'm talking about.
  4. Forget to put this in blue? No. Not saying it's necessarily a bad thing, but you really never know what Counsell's going to do.
  5. It can't be because they are planning to start Anderson in the wild card game and don't want the Cardinals to see him twice in a week, can it?
  6. Can we just pass on the tie breaker game and go full strength into the wild card game?
  7. Looks like that changed with the new playoff format... "With, however, the adoption of a second wildcard berth and a wildcard game beginning in the 2012 season, the non-division winner with the best record in the league faces possible elimination on the first day of the postseason. As a result, the tie-breaking rules were changed so that two teams tied for a division championship must play a tie- breaking game even if both teams have already qualified for the postseason." That doesn't seem right. So the Brewers could have to play a tie breaker with the Cubs and then if they lose, host the wild card game probably not having their best pitcher against a team that probably will. I know, win the game and you don't have to worry about it but it puts the team with the better record at a disadvantage.
  8. Maybe it's been discussed before but a tie with the Cubs for the division still gives the division to the Cubs. Cubs took the season series and there would be no tiebreaker game since both teams would make the postseason regardless of who wins.
  9. BA said there's a team option. I thought it was a little ridiculous all the guys hugging Harrison and Mercer. There's still a week of games left. This isn't the last time you're going to see them.
  10. Even crazier, the Rays would have the 3rd best record in the NL, leading two of the three divisions. However, they're going to (most likely) miss the playoffs in the AL, probably by 5 or more games.
  11. I think someone has pointed out they're tied to starting pitchers right now. But I'd still like someone to ask management on it. Pina has hit well the second half and he's just a vastly superior defensive catcher. Kratz had his good hitting streak there but is now back to what you'd expect. This should be a 3/5 split or even 4/5 in Pina's favor. Maybe they're trying to keep Pina fresh for the playoffs. There's no way a 38 year old catcher should be catching as much as he is at this point in the season unless he's a top flight catch on offense or defense. And Kratz is neither.
  12. Friday afternoon home game for the White Sox? Are the Cubs messing with the start time for road games now too?
  13. $200 for Terrace? No thanks. Comparatively, $405 for Diamond box seems somewhat reasonable though.
  14. They said it will be 7 days for Russell. I'm sure it will be longer if they find anything credible though.
  15. The Brewers shirts should say "Counsell can't be trusted in the playoffs" or "Stearns bungled the deadline again". Something along those lines.
  16. Was bored this morning and watched a bunch of ejection videos on MLB.com. I noticed two interesting things. There were a lot of managers that were tossed as they were calmly walking from the dugout, not saying a word, just coming out to talk and they get tossed immediately. The other was that in a couple videos, the announcers said you can't argue a balk. I've never heard that before.
  17. Post season apparel. What crap. Get ready for dugouts full of players and coaches wearing hoodies that haven't worn them once all year.
  18. Play a doubleheader every weekend. Noon start and 7:00 start so the owners get two gates. Schedule for Saturday so one game can be rescheduled for Sunday if it rains. And then every team has every Monday off. All those Mondays will be available for reschedules too. Same amount of games over the same amount of days with more days off.
  19. Not a teacher but I did work at a high school and monitored students throughout the day. While not a top reason why I left the job, a potential shooting was probably in the top 10. We had drills but it seemed neither the students nor teachers took them very seriously. We were basically told it's up to the teacher/monitor whether to hide or flee in that situation. My room was unique in that it was windowless, there were multiple entrances/exits, and also a couple rooms within the room. For each period I had a mental plan about what to do if something happened based on the number and makeup of the students, whether to barricade and hunker down or head out the other door and run.
  20. Does UW-M have promotions and entertainment during the games or even a concession stand? I don't know the answer, but I'm guessing no for promotions and probably not much if any concessions. At every level below MLB people go to the games for everything but the baseball. Give them something to distract them from the game and they'll show up. I doubt the Milkmen will last long (I have no idea who this Zimmerman guy is), as most indy ball teams do, but more people will attend than any Panthers game. And it will have nothing to do with the product on the field.
  21. I thought that was pretty good actually.
  22. Interesting idea. The Trats have played some games at Miller Park in the past. When they played the Snappers in 2015, attendance wasn't even 5,000. Maybe you get more for a AAA game.
  23. Free for students too I believe.
  24. If you scan the lists of top 10 players in run scored every year they will be populated with players who had very good to great seasons. I'm sure there are exceptions from time to time but it's hard to score a ton of runs without being a good hitter. Plenty of crappy speedy, slap hitters have scored lots of runs because they hit leadoff for good offenses. BA was talking like it was some sort of important skill a person possesses. It's totally context dependent, even more so than RBI's.
  25. Is Anderson really talking about how important the runs scored stat is for a player? Good grief.
