  1. I’m not sure where to peg Machado’s value or Arcia’s because both massively depend on the right situation coming up and the eye of the beholder. Of course every trade works that way, but with these two I think it really matters. Machado is a massive talent though at the premium position. He has cooled off big time, but if he carries near this kind of production into mid-July he is probably going to garner quite the premium for a rental. I don’t think Arcia could headline a deal, but I think you are really underselling Arcia. He was pretty good last year and pretty consistent from start to end (it wasn’t really carried by one month or anything). I really doubt Arcia has just suddenly lost it and last year was his career year. If he rebounds to be like last year or better that is a pretty fantastic get in a trade. The risk is if he doesn’t at least rebound to last years numbers...if not he isn’t that great of a get. If Jean Segura could have three good months, fall of the map for 2.5 years, and still get a nice package from Arizona I think Arcia still holds a good amount of the value he would have had before the season started. Any trades involving Dave Stewart can not be used to accurately discuss player value and they generally defy all logic.
  2. Arcia is 23-year-old Gold Glove caliber SS who just last year hit nearly .280, and was a top 20 MLB prospect. But he has no value ... His top 20 prospect value was propped up by one fluke offensive season in AA. I wouldn't put a lot of stock into that ranking or his results from that year. He's had almost 1000 MLB PA's and his career OPS+ of 73 is the same of our beloved Eric Sogard's 74. His plate approach and overall hitting ability have devolved to toddler levels. You can cite his age all you want but he's in his third major league season, close to making the whole age argument moot. The glove is good though. There's no way a player who's season OPS is hovering around .500 and career OPS can't even sniff .700 is going to be the centerpiece for the most sought after player on the trade market, I don't care what his age or former prospect status is. Secondary piece, sure. "Centerpiece" for a much lesser player, sure. But there's no way Stearns asks the Orioles for Machado and they ask for Arcia and spare change in return.
  3. Bring up Nick Ramirez and he can play 1st and pitch out of the pen. Why is Ramirez not up to AAA? I thought maybe AA is short of pen arms, but I don't see that to be the case. I know you need to save room for the guys that you can treat like a rented mule (Dillard, Zagurski), but it would seem you could find room for him. Unless Ramirez has been playing so long for Biloxi that he is the mayor now, he has been there four straight years now. Ya, I kind of assumed he was in Colorado Springs too. Makes you wonder if the organization doesn't see anything in him. They did let him become a minor league free agent last year but he did resign eventually.
  4. If Arcia is the centerpiece of a Machado deal, then Manny's value has totally tanked or the Orioles are the worst run franchise in the history of everything.
  5. I don't think he's blocking anyone and they're not winning anything anytime soon. Might as well keep playing him.
  6. I won't disagree with an organizational focus on better approach at the plate but look at the current MLB team, how many hitters actually came through the Brewers system? I count 3: Arcia, Braun, and Cain.
  7. Considering Ohtani's OPS is 200 points higher than Pujols, you would think they have to be considering just having him DH the rest of the year.
  8. A certain candidate in the Wisconsin special election has been inundating my mailbox with mailers. For the last month I've been getting something at least every other day and every single day last week I got at least one, sometimes two in the same day. They also sent someone to my house to give me a flyer and speak with me on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday. This person's opponent has sent me one thing during the whole campaign. What an incredible and annoying waste of money and paper all of this is for a 5 month position.
  9. Dude, NFL mini-camp is going on. Bigger fish to fry.
  10. Or "eviscerates," "destroys", etc. about something someone said about someone else.
  11. Saying Arcia is struggling would be giving him way too much credit. Suter has had better at bats than Orlando this year. And that is not being sarcastic or hyperbolic. Orlando is beyond pathetic right now.
  12. This is like the 5th fire Coles thread this year and they all go the same way. - Brewers offense sucks - Coles sucked as a player - Fire Coles
  13. Really bad throw by Cain that Villar tried to rush a tag on and didn't complete the catch. Zobrist had no business tagging up on that play but with Cain's poor arm I guess they were just trying to be aggressive. Should have been an easy out if either player had done their job. Really bad throw? It was a one hopper, perfectly on line with the base.
  14. They seem intent on getting Thames in the OF. Who's to say Miller won't be getting a lot of starts at 1B against RHP with an outfield of Thames, Yelich, and Cain. Braun has a couple more DL stints in him this year and Domingo has just totally disappeared.
  15. he was just optioned, so he must stay down for at least 10 days, unless replacing a player put on the disabled list. Does that transfer when you’re traded? Doesn’t seem right. The Brewers optioned him, not the Rays.
  16. The future is here. And his name is Brad Miller. (blue?)
  17. About 1000x more than I ever expected Choi could bring back in a trade.
  18. Yelich and Cain were both acquired with 5 years of control. There's no 3 year window. There's no window at all. If there was, Stearn's would have signed one of those pitchers that everyone wanted.
  19. I keep coming back to Alcides Escobar. Terrible hitter in Milwaukee. Terrible hitter in KC (outside of 1 season).
  20. I really hope that they've tried already. His swing and approach are terrible. I can't believe they would have watched him in the majors for 3 years and been fine with his hitting. So either they've said nothing to him or they've tried to get him to change and he's ignored it. Both are not good. Personally, I've never been a huge fan of Arcia. The glove is great but he still botches the easiest plays and his bat is just pathetic. Having said that, I'm fine with him getting the most PT at SS until his team control is up or they find a better replacement.
  21. I skimmed the trade assuming Realmuto was is it and I wasn't in favor. Then I went back and re-read it and saw he wasn't. Still wasn't in favor of it.
  22. Look at what it took to get JD Martinez last year. Save the top prospects and go get a rental bat for cheap.
  23. Wasn't this proven true last year as well? After 2 years in a row and thousands of pitches, the sample size is big enough to know something is up. I'm not saying umps are intentionally screwing the Brewers over but the pitchers, catchers, or something is up that they aren't getting fair calls.
  24. What's the worst that could happen? We lose 15-2 instead of 3-1?
