  1. I guess I don't know what type of player you would want him to target? I mean, he has targeted a lot of different kinds of players during his short run and seems to want to include a few guys that provide defense in a lot of areas so you have coverage. I don't see anything wrong with that. It's not like there are just guys on the streets that are hitting .300 everywhere they go. Both Stearns and Counsell have stated a preference for players with defensive versatility. Those guys are great to have. But over his tenure, having seen him bring in lots of guys who play multiple positions but have well below even passable bats just seems pointless. It totally negates any defensive/positional flexibility value they have if they're turds at the plate. And I totally get that Saladino is probably the first guy to go if they need a 40 man spot but maybe try to diversify your talent base a little.
  2. If you can throw strikes with your left hand you'll always have a shot at the bigs. I don't Hader really impacts Ramirez at all since they don't have the same role. Probably the same with Jennings.
  3. They were mostly in the Milwaukee area. Okay, so why were these schools doing summer baseball? What was even the original motivation for summer baseball? Because right now it seems everyone is dominating the conversation about things really irrelevent to summer baseball. If it was to avoid weather northern teams would figure out how to do it. If these teams are around Milwaukee I am sure travel teams are not helping matters. I've wondered that too. I didn't even know summer baseball existed in Wisconsin until I played in college and a bunch of guys on the team complained about having the play in spring because they'd never done it before. I'm not sure who the last hangers on were but summer baseball was basically Milwaukee area, north of Milwauke (Sheboygan, Kohler, etc.), and western Wisconsin (Grantsburg, Ladysmith area). Maybe some Milwaukee schools played summer because there weren't enough fields for everyone to play at the same time. But that's just me guessing.
  4. Sogard, Perez, Saladino, Blanco, Franklin. Play lots of positions with little offensive skill. New market inefficiency? Like I posted in the 40 man thread, Stearns love of these types of guys is getting a little annoying.
  5. I was thinking more a poor man's Andres Blanco. At least Blanco hasn't been total crap with the bat. Either way both are terrible and will hopefully never see Milwaukee. Stearn's love for versatility to no offensive talent is getting a little annoying.
  6. Mattingly needs to lose those glasses. He looks like a turd. And trim those sideburns.
  7. Couldn't travel ball teams adjust their schedules to the new format? You would give the opportunity to kids to play high school baseball and still have plenty of summer to get in your tournaments for travel ball. They wouldn't do that. Way too much $$$ on the line. And the players want to go to the tournaments that the college scouts attend The bigger joke about youth/high school Baseball in Wisconsin is that in a lot of school districts, if you play football, you really only have the month of June for Baseball. HS football starts up 3x a week practices in July! The high school athlete who is serious about Baseball in Wisconsin is really disadvantaged as compared to much of the rest of the country, and has to make tough choices as a result. Ya, whole other discussion, but football really needs to be reigned in. I think last year it was because of weird scheduling but games were starting the second week of August. Even without that, kids are starting practice in the middle of July. That's ridiculous.
  8. If you're adding a Sunday doubleheader, you're likely removing a lightly attended, midweek afternoon game. Raise ticket prices 50% for admission to both games or play a day/night doubleheader and get two gates. That's almost certainly going to be more profitable than playing at noon on a Wednesday. A rainout would be a schedule (and money) killer though.
  9. I was told by our AD that this has been brought up a few times but has little support. I don't understand why though.
  10. I think a commenter on MLBTradeRumors nailed it. After Suarez got hurt they called up a young guy to play 3B. However, it's been Phil Gosselin and Cliff Pennington playing 3B. Those guys have little business being on a 25 man roster, let alone playing over a young guy on a rebuilding team. If Price was going to continue to run out over the hill, never was's over young players he has no business managing that team.
  11. Taking away 1 week of games will make no difference what so ever in cancellations, player health, and all the other reasons brought up for reducing the schedule. If you're going to make a cut that will make a difference, you're going to have to cut almost a month, 25 games or so. Neither the owners nor the players are going to approve a 15% cut of money though.
  12. When Ronald Acuna joins the Braves he will be the youngest player in the league and actually born after Bartolo Colon made his debut. Adam Vinatieri laughs as he's already played against someone born after he started his career.
  13. Seems like something the hitting coach probably should be noticing. Seems like something that should have been dealt with before he got to Milwaukee.
  14. This is about to hit me in the face. Maybe I'll swing at it. Nice Orlando.
  15. Someone needs to tell Arcia to keep his back foot on the ground when he swings. Three years in and he's changed nothing and continues to suck with the bat.
  16. Leadoff double doesn't score. Classic Brewers. At least Hader starting the 9th.
  17. Taking pitches for the sake of taking pitches is never a good thing, unless a pitcher can't find the zone. If you get a fastball in your zone first pitch, rip it. MLB Network was talking about Votto's first pitch swing percentage and he's swung more often as his career has advanced. I was on the treadmill so I don't know what they were saying but I would assume it's because he has a reputation as a pitch taker, so pitchers throw him strikes on the first pitch. But he's now adjusted his game to take advantage of that and is swinging more often.
  18. Between the number and the soul patch, Nottingham is a spitting image of Kyle Lohse.
  19. It may mean nothing to you but the information has turned plenty of nobodies into really good hitters.
  20. Both are unavailable tonight so both should be gone but, sure, keep the guy who got rocked for 6 runs in 1 inning last night.
  21. Is Realmuto an upgrade over the current catching options? Yes. Is the amount of upgrade worth what it's going to cost. No way.
  22. There is only spring softball in Wisconsin. It's starts a week earlier than baseball, ends a week earlier than baseball, and there are just as many summer options for girls to play as baseball. Yet there is no controversy there.
