  1. Boras being Boras. No story here.
  2. Yes. It just seems to me that there should be rules you follow to make it easy on yourself. Kinda like going for two - if you're down five you go for two, if you're down six you kick the extra point, etc. The Eagles had two timeouts and the ball with :46 left in the half the other day. They threw a short pass, the dude didn't get out of bounds so clock is running. They decide to have everyone line up so they can run another play. 23 seconds runs off the clock and one of their guys jumps offsides probably because they were rushing to get back to the line. THEN they call a timeout. So dumb... The other thing that I just can't fathom is wasting timeouts mid way through a half because you can't get the play in fast enough. The packers literally do this once a game without fail. I'd be curious if the patriots ever do this. Seems like they always have all three timeouts under two minutes left. That whole situation was a cluster, but they had to take the timeout to avoid a 10 second runoff. Should have taken it right away though.
  3. Ya, the Giants will very likely be the worst team in baseball in 2 or 3 years and have a crap farm system to boot. They've got to be the oldest team in their division and they may be the 4th best team in their division right now. Just a recipe for disaster.
  4. It's for one year of an aging, declining player. The Pirates shouldn't expect much in return. Pittsburgh held on to McCutchen and Cole a year too long.
  5. I have no problem with signing Choi unless he was signed with the idea that he would be the 1B if one of or both of Thames and Aguilar is traded. Just put Perez there if that's the case.
  6. Darvish and hard pass on everyone else.
  7. I've found this year's playoffs to be really exciting as someone without a favorite team in all of the NFL. Lots of good games with some new teams. But I'm sick of listening to Packer fans whine about the Vikings having success this year. I mean this isn't the St. Louis Cardinals that win year in and year out with whatever assortment of barely passable talent they put out there. Minnesota has hardly had more franchise success than the Brewers. I get the whole divisional rival thing and the Rodgers injury but unless you've convinced yourself it was some truly dirty, malicious play just get over it and move on. Same with the Falcons hate. They beat you last year, so what. And unlike 99% of the world outside of Boston, I don't hate Brady and the Patriots. I used to hate them, and then at some point I saw them as the great, model franchise they are and respect everything they've done. So the whole "Brady sucks, fudge the Patriots, etc." is pretty annoying. And just based on some of the things I seen on this forum, seems like Packer fans think Rodger's injury is the only thing that prevented them from winning the Super Bowl. I'm sorry, did you see any of the defense play this year? A full season of a healthy Rodgers probably gets them in the playoffs and maybe even out of the Wild Card round but I see no way that defense (if you want to even call it that) does anything to stop Atlanta, New Orleans, Philly, or Minnesota.
  8. That poor DB. All he had to do was grab his legs and hang on. Push him out of bounds... hold on to him until help arrives, anything. Instead of dipping his head and trying to chuck him with his shoulder with his eyes (seemingly) closed. Unbelievable. I know these guys are the top of the line pro athletes, but that this is the form of "tackling" we still see at the very top level, literally every week, amazes me. Ya, I'm amazed at the amount of "tackles" I see every week that is just a defender diving at a ball carrier with his shoulder and arms at his sides. How in the hell do you expect to make a tackle that way?
  9. Unless Thames is traded that would give them two left handed hitting 1B only guys. So he has to be AAA depth.
  10. Maybe, but with it being likely 1 year and only having to pay the minimum MLB salary, I would say it's more of a no risk insurance policy. Smith has been pretty bad at the MLB level but so has Brinson but we still see him as an elite prospect. Too soon to tell on either. Ya I don't think this has anything to do with Smith. I wouldn't be surprised if Gonzalez is released around May from flat out sucking.
  11. Well the Pro Bowl will be in Orlando for a few years so it's even cheaper to fly them there!
  12. Only two years of control for Cole and he's only had one really, really good year. I'd have passed on trading for him. He's been built up as this ace, top 10 pitcher but I don't know why. I'd rather give up the years and money to Darvish or Lynn. As for what the Pirates are getting, I don't see any superstars but a bunch of solid guys that will fill holes. Moran will be their 3B, and Feliz and Musgrove will fill bullpen and maybe eventually rotation spots. Not a sexy return but I don't think all that much of Cole and his value.
  13. As mentioned though even if the money was the same or even more, he knows he's not closing ahead of Knebel here. He could be a great setup man here for 2 years or could be a great closer in Minnesota. One is worth far more in future revenue. Ya, I get that. Although I'd put the chances of Knebel imploding and becoming a dud in a year or two around 50% because that's the nature of those types of guys. From 2012-2014 Reed put up 101 saves, I'm not sure what happened that he was taken out of the role, but he's done it before and I can't see racking up a bunch of saves getting him any bigger of a contract in 2 years. Especially now that teams put little value in saves. Heck, the idea of the tradition "saves" closer may be antiquated in 2 years.
  14. Closing issues aside, really disappointed he's not in Milwaukee for that price. Also appears that Fernando Rodney, who was told he would be the closer when he signed with Minnesota, is not too happy about this.
  15. Maybe Jungmann turns himself into a serviceable MLB pitcher someday, maybe not. Either way no real loss for the organization.
  16. Excess bodies, yes. Talent, no.
  17. The Yankees moved him because of money and Torres and the Cubs moved him because of Addison Russell. His space out moments on the field were well documented in Chicago but he just spent two years in New York and I never heard a word about them. If they happened in New York they would have been a huge deal. Also, never heard anything about him being a clubhouse cancer.
  18. Would prefer Castro to Villar, Perez, or Sogard everyday at 2B. That said, I hope Walker is playing there in 2018.
  19. He'd be acceptable for the first 25 games of the year before he gets injured for the rest of the season. So, no.
  20. Only problem was that he had no clue where it was moving You can say that for the majority of hard throwing minor leaguers and a lot of hard throwing major leaguers. I remember everyone gushing over Johny Hellweg but his fastball was like a 16 year old driving on ice for the first time. Bethancourt has pretty much shown he has less than zero bat and, other than his arm, his defensive skills aren't highly regarded. You can find a no bat/below average defense catcher anywhere. Maybe he can actually turn in to a pitcher.
  21. Nothing about Orlando's major or minor league numbers says he should be near the top of any order.
  22. Backup QB is always tricky. Do you use cap space for a truly capable guy you hope never sees the field or save it for a position or positions of need? I'll never blame any team for keeping some cheap nobody as their backup. If your starting QB goes down for the year your season is toast anyway unless you've got a great running game or an elite D.
  23. [sarcasm]This is the relief pitcher signing we've all been waiting for![/sarcasm] But seriously I hope they don't completely give up on him as a pitcher. He throws pretty hard with movement.
  24. I've heard it talked about before. Not often but it does get brought up. And Packer fans have the general ineptitude of the rest of the division to thank for a good chunk of their success. This year's Vikings team is the only one I can think of from the division from the past 10 years or so that is a legitimate contender. The Lions had a pretty good team a few years ago but for the most part a healthy Rodgers and Co could just roll through 3 average at best teams to win the division.
  25. Whaley has already failed as a GM and I doubt he gets another shot anywhere. He was the token interview for Cleveland and will be for Green Bay and probably a few more times in his career. The rule is stupid and racist. Especially when you consider it really only applies to the black minority. I'm sure there are a few hispanic or asian coaches and executives that are just as deserving of interviews as some of the guys that are getting token interviews.
