  1. This is an interesting observation. I see this as well and its the opposite for the Packers. Fans of the Packers scream about Ted Thompson never signing FAs and fans of the Brewers scream when Melvin/Attanasio actually signed FAs. It's weird to see fans of both teams respond so differently to these FA signings. Because NFL contracts are meaningless. Most players can be cut for little to no money after the first year or two. There is very little risk to signing an NFL free agent. All money is guaranteed in an MLB contract. When you sign that free agent, you're paying him every penny of it no matter how bad he is or if you release him. The team takes on all the risk and the player takes on virtually none.
  2. I think the adjustment they need to make is putting him on the bench. What a pathetic performance today.
  3. Is there any concern that someone might claim Bandy? And is there really any concern if someone does claim him? Same would go for Susac I'm sure. Just drop one of those 2 and take a chance on the younger guy with the higher ceiling in Nottingham.
  4. Big league teams living off the public dole in Arizona is over. The Brewers came too late to that party. And honesty, the only place I hear complaints about Maryvale is from internet keyboard jockey's. I've yet to read anything negative about it from players or management.
  5. Has anyone said he will turn into or should be anything more?
  6. Reports are that Bennett told Belichek he didn't want to play when the Pats claimed him and he had to be talked into going to New England. Take it for what it's worth but saying that he told every team but New England he didn't want to play is wrong according to what has been reported. Another interesting fact I read is that if the Packers win a grievance against Bennett, New England would actually gain cap space because of it.
  7. The Patriots were just about last in the waiver order so it's not like he was flat out released and everyone had an equal chance at him. Almost 30 teams passed.
  8. He has great career numbers and many seem to assume he's a Hall of Famer. But at any point in his career was he considered the best or near the best at his position? I don't think so and that to me isn't a Hall of Famer.
  9. The purpose of ST and a ST facility is to prepare the MLB team for playing the upcoming season, develop minor leaguers for playing in MLB, and rehab injured players. I have heard nothing about the current Maryvale site hindering that. Any money it makes from attendance is just a bonus. I'd be interested to know how much profit (if any) is generated by attendance at spring training facilities. I would assume the Cubs lead everyone in Arizona in that area but I'd also bet that everyone else is pretty much equal. The neighborhood is less than ideal but does that prevent the facility from fulfilling its purpose? No.
  10. Probably. SI ran story a couple months ago about Jordan Reed and much of it was about how players are so much bigger and faster now and that was causing more injuries.
  11. He doesn't have to wait util July 2. And I highly doubt he starts in the minors unless he gets hurt in spring training.
  12. He seemed pretty disinterested from the moment the season started.
  13. With the amount of money the Brewers are kicking in I'm sure there must be only a tiny fee to get out of the contract.
  14. Because it would have cost them a lot more to go anywhere else.
  15. I thought that was kind of interesting. A lot of times when people live a life like he has they either regret it or at least admit they should have done things differently. Ric fully owns to everything he did and has no shame or regrets about it. I'm not taking a moral stance on it either way, I just found his perspective interesting.
  16. It's a totally weird thing to say, but I've only cried twice while watching wrestling. The first time was Ric Flair's retirement ceremony on Raw after he lost to Shawn Michaels and then again watching the his 30 For 30. It got real emotional toward the end. On a lighter note, though, any fans of WCW should check out the What Happened When Mondays podcast with Tony Schiovane. Tony talks about his experiences working with WCW. The real Tony is a lot different from the guy who did commentary ringside for so many years and is a lot more interesting.
  17. Tim wasn't even active like half the season last year. I think he spent a good chunk of time on the Helena paper roster before the draft. He was pretty much only active when someone got hurt or there was roster shuffling so it's not like he's really taking a spot away from anyone.
  18. Is Brinson's ceiling at or higher than Ozuna? If the answer is no, then it would be a stupid trade.
  19. Andrew Daly has made a guest appearance in literally every TV comedy.
  20. Jon Gruden said as much last night. He said it looked like the Lions offense knew exactly what the Packers defense was running and called the right plays to beat it.
  21. $36 million for 3 years for a good player is not some sort of salary where the Marlins are just going to give Gordon away. Who knows with the new ownership really. They seem like they want to slash payroll however they can.
  22. That's how I felt about the office, and now I binge watch it often. Wasn't a big fan of The Office when it first started and thought Parks and Rec was terrible after the first season but both are two of my favorite shows now. Superstore isn't anywhere near the level of those two shows but I find it to be consistently entertaining and maintain my interest.
  23. I really wish they would do another show like this. Parks and Rec followed and had great success. NBC needs to get on it. Superstore on NBC, while not a 'mockumentary,' has a similar feel as The Office and Parks and Rec - ensemble cast, subtle humor, no laugh track. I was going to say Superstore as well. Made by some of the same people as The Office.
  24. Getting slightly back on track to the topic but still age related... the vast majority of the coaches and front office of the Dodgers are all not millenials, which blows a hole in Garvey's blathering.
