  1. We're talking about a 6th or 7th inning reliever at best. He's a nobody in the grand scheme of baseball things. I don't blame the guy for being upset but realize who you are. And also realize you will be in the bigs at some point this year. It's not like they released you and gave you a lifetime banishment from baseball.
  2. It's not Jungmann making the team ahead of him that has him and Scahill upset. It's Milone and Barnes. Both Cravy and Scahill not only performed well in Arizona, but last year with Brewers. I'm glad he popped off. It's time to take some shine off the Theo Epstein wannabe Stearns. (eyeroll emoji)
  3. I started a 2017 thread. It's buried somewhere.
  4. Stupid deal. It's probably not going to cripple them but it's a massive overpay for a declining player. I don't know if management has said anything about it but I've seen fans say that he can just slide to 1B when Carson Kelly is ready. Sure, replace you're .850 OPS hitter with a .700 OPS because you're overpaying him to be the face of your franchise. Makes perfect sense. When I looked up Yadier's career numbers I was surprised at how underwhelming they were. He sprinkled in a good year here and there with a lot of crap years at the plate.
  5. Franklin was DFA'd so he could be traded before he hits waivers. And I agree he wouldn't be a bad fit in Milwaukee.
  6. Only if you enjoy hipster beer that tastes only slightly less horrible than Miller/Coors/Bud.
  7. How has no one addressed the thread title? Or are you all mature adults?
  8. Lloyd Braun. Also the name of my like 4th cousin, twice removed.
  9. Not sure how long he lived in Cincinnati but he was born there so he may be a bigger fan favorite there than in Milwaukee. Also, according to Wikipedia he is "an avid potter." Would never have guessed that.
  10. Color me surprised he didn't make the team.
  11. Bad? Yes. One of the baseball's worst? Not quite.
  12. With his $3 million salary. Yes. If his value was zero he would have gone unclaimed. Cincy is on the hook for his contract now so he was worth $3M to them.
  13. Ya, kind of looks like the milb.com team websites but whatever. I pretty much never go there anyway.
  14. I posted in the Guerra thread that the Rangers might make sense for Junior around the deadline due to their lackluster/injury ward rotation.
  15. No my attitude is you know what you signed up for so stopping acting like you're some poor unsuspecting victim. I mean serioulsly, walking around with these "broke athlete" signs? I'm so sorry that he gets a four year degree without paying a dime AND gets a monthly stipend on top of that just for being an athlete. Please, allow me to throw some money his way. Perhaps someone should send him a bill showing him what he would have paid for college if he wasn't good at basketball. And perhaps he should have gone to Turkey or Greece to play professionally three years ago if playing NCAA basketball is causing him to go broke. You're assuming a 4 year degree is really that valuable. Its value drops everyday as everyone and their mother gets one from the hundreds of online diploma mills.
  16. Serious suggestion, just ditch the whole going to school part of it. Pay for housing and don't even bother trying to pretend these kids are getting an actual education. All the schools, conferences, and NCAA really want is a good product on the field to make money off of. Take the academic scholarship from the athletes and give it to kids who actually want an education. Taking away the time spent on academics would allow the kids to have a part time job, or train harder for their sport. Everybody wins.
  17. If they would just allow the players to make money off of their own name by doing autograph signings and endorsements the majority of the problem would go away. Any other kid on any other scholarship at any school can get paid to do the thing that got them the scholarship. A kid on a music scholarship can go and play a concert or record an album and get paid for it. But a football player can't sell some signed 8x10's for $10 a pop.
  18. The problem is when people try to think of NCAA D1 football or basketball players as student athletes because they are not. They are athletes first and students only when it becomes clear they won't be going pro. And even then you have school athletics boosters who will just give these guys jobs after college even though they are no where near qualified. The whole idea of those that play major college athletics getting anything near an actual education is quite a joke. I'll admit I'm biased since my college athletic experience really jaded me toward it. We had a coaching staff and athletic department that stressed academics and being responsible. Even though I made Dean's list 7 of 8 semesters and never was in kind of trouble our coaching staff and AD bent over backwards to make sure guys on academic probation or with underage drinking or drug citations never missed a game while I and others like me sat on the end of the bench. And this was D3. I'll admit they were all better players than I was but the fact that they made such a huge deal about grades and responsibility and then threw that all out the window when push came to shove didn't sit well with me at all. And I've heard the same story from other people who went to different schools. As for the one and done rule, if I was a high school senior who could get drafted why would I want to waste my time in college? And if I was forced to go, I'd go where I would have to do the least academically which is I'm sure what they're doing at Kentucky. As for the NBA, I don't pay any attention to it so I have no idea what it affect it's having. Although with the success of the D-League it's makes sense that high school kids can be drafted and play there for a couple years.
  19. I would imagine Thames and Shaw are platooned, just not both on the same day.
  20. The Rangers rotation is Hamels and Darvish and then a bunch of nobody's/injuries waiting to happen/already injureds. I wouldn't be surprised if they are looking to further stock up our minor league system come July.
  21. Yes, definately. It primarily stems from recruiting. If you don't follow that part of college basketball I could see how you wouldn't be aware of it. Yea, it's an in-state rivalry. Simple as that. Duke/NC, Alabama/Auburn, SC/Clemson, etc. Do they even play each other in a popular sport outside of basketball? And even there they're not in the same conference.
  22. I guess I've never understood being a fan of a college unless you actually went there.
  23. I have no issues with someone that wants to wear other professional team hats, but a Badger fan wearing Marquette gear? That I can't get my head around. Native Wisconsinite, Badger fan, and UW alum here and I'd wear a Gopher hat before I wore anything from Marquette, and I don't get into the whole "you should only wear gear of teams you're a fan of" talk. Is there some sort of UW/Marquette rivalry that I'm not aware of?
  24. Trey Supak looks rather fat. I've never seen pictures of him before. Has he always been that round?
