  1. Defense is important but you have to balance it with players that can actually hit. Remember the Mariners attempt to win with a great defensive team 6 or 7 years ago? They were terrible. I feel defense is one of those things that was so undervalued league wide for such a long time that it has flipped and become overrated. Having said that it's nice to see the organization actually give a crap about defense instead of just getting a bunch of DH's and sticking them at the position they suck least at.
  2. FYI, that started years ago. Aikman has gotten better, but early in his broadcast career he had an obvious anti-Packer bias (when Favre was still playing for the Packers). They don't bother me now, but I don't get how they are the lead Fox broadcast team. They miss so many plays live until the replay happens (oh, now I see the hold/facemask/false start...). They must not actually watch the plays as they call them. They are better than the later years of John Madden and Pat Summerall. Or anytime Jerry Glanville was in the booth. I really don't understand the anti-Packers bias that I hear so many people talk about. Buck is just terrible at calling a game no matter who's playing or what the sport is. He's hated by both baseball and footballs fans so it's not just a Packers fans thing.
  3. I use hipster when I'm speaking of someone who likes things that aren't mainstream or popular and who also puts down other people for liking things that are. To me, hipster is someone or something that thinks and acts like it's better than others just because it's not in the popular culture. I know that's not technically the correct use of the word but that's how I use it. My musical tastes, especially, are way out there but I would never talk down to someone who likes popular music because that type of thing is totally subjective.
  4. TPlush is right on with this. Villar isn't going anywhere. The Dodgers could make Scooter work as a platoon if they have too. The Dodgers are gauging everyone's price right now. Stearns can still make a great trade, but he's going to have to dig again for the right prospects in the Dodger's system. And Stearns seems to do a good job of finding unpolished diamonds. The Dodger's are coming across as the person who shows up at your garage sale and wants to buy your $5 lamp for .50. They keep it up and teams are going to spite them. It wouldn't surprise me if the pissed Stearns off by their offers since there was little to no dialect over the past 3 months. Seems more like the Dodgers are open to making a major upgrade but only at their price because they aren't particularly motivated to make a move at all. As for the "unpolished diamonds," Villar has had one good season and the rest are no where near the majors.
  5. I'm going to take a wild stab and guess that this friend also drinks nothing but obscure IPAs and trashes anyone who drinks a light beer. Not this particular friend but I have another that's a similar TV snob and fits your description.
  6. When you have 6 players all jumping for the ball whoever catches it is total happenstance. Certainly it takes a lot of skill on Rodgers part to drop it into a 5x5ish box but he has nothing to do with if and who catches it.
  7. Yea, I would rush 6. DBs are not covering the whole field, or even the receivers. They should get to the end zone and find the ball. And having 5 guys do that should be plenty. With that said, there was what 6 seconds left? Giants had to guard against a possible real quick out pattern to get into FG range. A successful hail mary is 99% luck, maybe more. Janis catch last year he was like triple covered, if Aaron throws that ball 1 yard further or shorter on Sunday it's either out of bounds or tipped, I don't think there is a perfect way to defend it. I guess I would rush two DB's from way wide since they're faster than any lineman and should at least make the QB run and drop everyone else in coverage. The offense can only send 5 guys to catch the ball, I'd take my chances in a 9 on 5 situation or even 11 on 5. Why even bother going after the QB since you're going to be severely out manned anyway.
  8. Maybe Stearns hasn't traded Braun because they are actually the same person.
  9. Or when you're talking about a popular show and someone goes "I'm watching (insert totally obscure show that is only known by the actors and their parents) on Netflix. It's so much better than anything on TV." Yes, most mainstream things are watered down for the masses but your underground, hipster, indie show is probably just as crappy and you only like it because it's not popular. Don't buy this at all. I'm in my 40's so i'm old enough to remember TV when there were only 4-5 channels and network TV ruled the day. All i can say is thank god those days are over because most of the shows on network TV simply aren't as good as ones on cable or sites like Netflix/Amazon Prime. Has nothing to do with so called underground or hipster attitudes. It's just a reality. Pretty much anyone i know among my friends/family/coworkers roughly in my age group who do watch cable, HBO, Netflix, etc, nearly all of them also much prefer shows via those platforms over what's on network TV besides maybe some exceptions. For example, i just finished watching Narcos on Netflix and Westworld last month on HBO. Both were fabulously made, but just couldn't have been done on network TV. Neither could Breaking Bad, which IMO was right near the best drama series ever made. I watch and enjoy a lot of non-network stuff but I have one friend who always brings up the most obscure, you'll never hear about it anywhere else stuff and then proceed to tell you how much better it is and put down what you like. A couple months ago we were talking about this season of South Park and he was confused as to why Garrison was running for president. Someone said to him "you haven't seen any of this season yet?" and he responds with "I haven't watched it in years. Didn't know it was still even on." in the most arrogant, smug way imaginable.

  11. "Best regards" is like nails on a chalkboard.
  12. The majority of the ESPN audience couldn't handle anything more than fluff analysis. If it's not talk about rings, the Cowboys, or brainless blathering from Stephen A Smith they'll lose interest.
  13. Kirk for a couple hundred thousand versus any free agent for a couple million? Jackson is the only one on that list that I would consider but Kirk's making below clearance section. He's like last day of a moving sale territory compared to a free agent.
  14. Forgot about Walker. Losing Walker for the opportunity to lose Parker and Geltz just doesn't make sense to me. I think he was out of options so that would be an issue but those two are 4A guys you can get for pennies just about any time of year.
  15. Never even heard of this Canada jacket.
  16. Trading Garza for Parra is totally pointless, does not make the team any better, and needlessly commits 2018 cash. Parra is just an overpaid Kirk.
  17. Wade Phillips is almost certainly gone as DC once Denver gets a new head coach. You can't give 100% of the defensive blame to Capers when he's putting a MASH unit on the field but even when healthy his defenses have been very average the last few years. It seems like Phillips will either stay with Denver or retire but maybe he could put a top 10 defense on the field to support Rodgers for a year or two.
  18. Agreed. The return wasn't great but Doug got off that train right before it went off the rails.
  19. From MLB Trade Rumors, Detroit is looking for a cheap CF stopgap. The article lists Bourjos, Bourn, Crisp, Austin Jackson, and Desmond Jennings as potential options. None of those options seem particularly appealing to a team trying to compete. They're either old, injury prone, or can't hit a lick. Kirk is certainly no world beater but he seems serviceable in all areas, is cheap, and has multiple years of control. Do the Tigers have anything worth trying to acquire?
  20. Storen needs a full year and a half of success before he starts bringing back anything special in a trade. This one year deal doesn't really help the Reds at all unless there's a team option for next season. Storen at least does have a track record of success until he got hurt. It's not like a good 2017 will be a flash in the pan season.
  21. I watched a few Monday Night Football games this year for the first time since they went to ESPN and I couldn't even stand him for 2 minutes at halftime. Talk about a guy who had a shtick that was entertaining for about a year and then rode it into the ground for 20 years.
  22. I couldn't believe when I saw he's only 29. I would have guessed mid 30's. Seems like he's been around forever.
  23. Toronto lost a lot of offense this offseason and added no pitching. If they have any hope of competing next year they have to add a bat somehow. They would make sense on the surface for Braun.
  24. I was pretty high on Hector Gomez after he tore up winter ball. It might mean something, but probably not.
