  1. These are the kinds of guys that the rich teams throw gobs of money at because they can afford the risk and because small market teams can't. In other words, he won't be signing with Milwaukee.
  2. Same as Thames, who is he blocking right now? Rivera? The only thing Rivera offers is defensive versatility which really means nothing for the club in its current state. I don't see anywhere else on the infield that Scooter could play but I've said it before, throw him in a corner outfield spot and see how he does. He can't be any worse than Khris Davis or Santana.
  3. If you want to destroy any chance of the Brewers being competitive in the next 10 years I suppose it's possible.
  4. Not uncommon at all. Last year or the year before the Brewers signed someone to the same kind of contract. Who? I feel like it was a pitcher. I'll see if I can try and dig it up.
  5. Really confused by what the Braves are trying to do. They go hardcore rebuild for a year and now are signing/acquiring old average or worse players in Garcia, Colon, Dickey, and Sean Rodriguez. There were rumors they were trying to get Brian McCann and Braun and now Chris Sale. Even with 3 years of control of Sale I don't see any way he makes them a playoff team during that contract.

  7. The problem is that Carter would likely be slated for $8-10M if he went through arbitration. It would only make sense for a team to trade for him if they thought he was worth it, and while many teams may be interested in him, nobody will likely touch him at that price (let alone part with a player to acquire the right to do it). Yeah, I originally thought they had a shot at trading him, but when they made it public that they expected his arby number to be over $10M, that pretty much shot that idea. Some team will likely negotiate a free agent deal with Carter for much less than that arby number, much like the Brewers did prior to last season. I agree that his arby number will probably be higher than what he's worth but as a free agent his salary is only going to go up and multiple teams try and sign him. If I really wanted him I would rather trade some random minor leaguers for him than get into a bidding war.
  8. Trying to "sneak" guys into AAA is all fine and good but there certainly were plenty of guys who could have been put on the 40 man to protect them instead.
  9. Considering the Dodgers have won at least 90 games and the division every year he's been there, he certainly seems like a pretty benign cancer.
  10. Are players not taught to wrap your arms when tackling anymore. I remember when I first played football in 7th grade I was taught to put my shoulder pad on the ball carriers thigh pad and wrap my arms around his legs. 99% of the tackles I see are a defender just throwing his body at the ball carrier. And at least 25% of the time they just bounce off.
  11. Um, no. Puig isn't tanking plays to get traded. He may have an attitude but the two are not even in the same universe.
  12. I've always felt that touches of brick red would be a great addition to the color scheme. As for the multiple logos thing I don't understand why people have an issue with it. I've worked in marketing, I understand brand identity. In fact, I had a discussion with the Director of Marketing at a college I was working at about logos and brand identity in sports. He was very adamant in making sure all of the different sports at the school used the same logo but that never happened. What it really comes down to with sports logos is that when a team has a run of success, that becomes the logo the team is identified by. The Brewers have had basically zero success as a franchise. During the ball and glove logo was when the only little bit of Brewers success happened. The Barley logo will be forgotten quickly after it's been moved on from. Also, it's boring and uninteresting.
  13. I've seen the 10 day DL touched a couple times in this thread. This is just changing the concussion DL from 7 to 10 days, right?
  14. Thames MLB numbers before going to Korea put him at a 96 OPS+. I would think that is his floor. Let's say his new found patience comes with him and factor in just general improvement a 100 OPS+ is not out of the question and probably a more realistic floor. So league average hitter at worst. For $5M-ish a year as a free agent that seems like a good deal. Now, whether or not that's a good deal for a team in the Brewer's position is certainly debatable but it's not like he's not blocking anyone.
  15. Yeah, I'll never get the check thing in this day and age. In this day of credit card miles and reward points, use a credit card for everything and pay it off every day or at least once a week (most credit cards allow this, but not all). Seems like a hassle, but it literally takes 2 minutes to do this. You are then basically using your credit card like a check or debit card and accumulating points. This is what my wife and I do. Pretty much every purchase we make, we use a credit card (a Southwest rewards card), and we pay it off daily. We usually use the points to take a trip to Vegas every year. On top of that we are signed up for the Mlife "rewards" club at MGM properties. The last two years we have received a 3 night free stay at NY, NY along with $100 "resort" money (and we really are not huge gamblers). Old people. I've been behind old people at checkouts that have no clue how to use a credit or debit card and it winds up taking them longer than writing a check.
  16. Not sure I buy that logic. $16M is $16M. It's not like if we don't spend that $16M we lose it. Mark A can save it and spend it some other year. The twins are in the same position payroll wise that we are. Why don't you ask a twin fan if the $9M they spent on Park was a good investment. The Twins just missed the playoffs in 2015 and, outside of a half season of Sano, no power hitters. I suppose they could have spent that $9M on a below average starting pitcher like Mike Pelfrey instead.
  17. He was DFA'd not non-tendered meaning if he's traded that team has exclusive rights to negotiate with him until he signs or that team non-tenders him. I thought he was first non-tendered, then DFA'ed. That is the thread title anyway, that he was non-tendered. It was reported that he was non-tendered then changed to DFA after. I'm pretty sure if he was actually non-tendered he would have immediately became a free agent and therefore could not be DFA'd.

  19. Vikings are toast. Bradford has finally been revealed to be what he is - an average QB at best. A great defense can carry you if you have an adequate offense ala the Broncos last year but their O-line is the worst in football and the running game isn't much better than the Packer's. Even if Peterson is able to come back this year he was not good before he got hurt and the line is worse. I'm not sure what to except from Detroit. Are they actually a first place team or are they just the benefactors of a crappy division?
  20. I posted this in the Thames thread: .263/.327/.468 - 108 OPS+ - 30 HR/93 RBI .222/.321/.499 - 114 OPS+ - 41 HR/94 RBI One of these players just signed a multi-year free agent deal to DH/play 1B with a playoff team. The other is Chris Carter. I understand he is one dimensional but teams pay for what he does best.
  21. Made the mistake of reading the comments on the article posted on the Brewers Facebook page. Just the dumbest most uninformed stuff you can imagine.

  23. Looks like Carter was actually DFA'd and not non-tendered, meaning there is still a chance he could be traded. No likely, but still possible.
  24. Now does Stearns continue making an infield of Asian imports and sign Hwang as well?
  25. I guess there's your first basemen. Very surprised.
