  1. Players aren't volunteering to dress in humiliating fashion. They're being forced to. That's different than a Halloween party.
  2. Here's your guy that's going to get 400 pointless PA in 2017.
  3. Outlaw all of it or none of it. There's gray area now that will be pushed by the players and then needlessly and ruthlessly scrutinized by the media. Right away I can see the whole pink/girly backpack of candy that rookies take to the bullpen being an issue. It doesn't directly fall into "dressing like a female" but it certainly (no pun intended) skirts it.
  4. And if all 3 bomb then we're left with nothing. I'm not saying trade any of them now but you can't just wait until players become whatever it is they are going to become before you consider trading them. Imagine if we would have taken that same approach with Brett Lawrie? Your own personal opinions about whether or not Marcum was worth it at the time aside, he's turned out to be an average at best player. The last time he was traded was for scraps.
  5. Curious to see what effect the weather has on the game tomorrow. It will probably lead to a bunch of broken plays which generally favors Rodgers.
  6. I think they just go with reverse standings so teams might end up with back to back picks if they lose multiple QO free agents.
  7. Glass half full. He'll avoid 1/3 of a season's worth of wear and tear on his arm.
  8. You know something that was also thought at that time? Chris Sale and Adam Eaton weren't going to be traded...so. Sale was rumored to be on the block all summer. Him being traded isn't a surprise.
  9. I posted this in the Sale thread but for some reason it didn't stick. I read many times on here that Moncada would never be traded. I read the same things about Giolito. Now both were just traded to the same team.
  10. The Cubs needed a LOOGY, I'm not sure why this is the guy those chose but whatever. Not saying Stearns is doing a bad job this offseason but he's made some headscratchers so far. Leaving a few guys unprotected only to give those roster spots to old, mediocre relievers and not even keeping Geltz and then not taking anyone in the rule 5.
  11. That's basically what the Cubs did with Heyward last year and then would up signing Fowler so Jason went back to RF.
  12. [sarcasm]Dave Stewart doesn't like this one for the Nationals.[/sarcasm]
  13. Making his claim pointless and possibly costing a player in the Rule 5. Just didn't make sense from the start.
  14. Soler didn't really have spot in Chicago so I don't think it's much of a loss but getting only 1 year of a guy doesn't seem like that much of a gain.
  15. Everything I've read says he's going to play 1B. The money isn't terrible but they gave up a first rounder to sign a guy who graded pretty good as a CF to play 1B on a team that isn't really going anywhere. They will be the 3rd best team in that division for a while. The Rockies are pretty much the most directionless team in baseball right now since the White Sox finally decided to rebuild.
  16. If KC were to resign their current core group in about 3 years they would have an old, overpaid, under performing team and no money to sign anyone to make it better. In most cases, signing your own guys to long term extensions only fulfills emotional goals and isn't in the best interest of the success of the team. Imagine if we resigned Prince. That would have really set the franchise back. Losing your players at about 30 years old by trade or free agency is often a blessing in disguise.
  17. Yeah he was 4 years younger and if you asked the Astros today if it was worth it they would probably say no since he didn't have a good year. Giles is the example of why you make this deal because it is so easy for a really good RP to get off to a bad start and kill his value. Giles had a couple bad months to start the season, otherwise he was his dominating self and regained the closer spot halfway through the year.
  18. Ken Giles had a season and a half but the Astros gave up a haul for him. Look up how that "haul" fared in Philly. That's the thing about prospects....the can't miss sometimes do miss. I'm not sure what you're referring to. Vince Velasquez put up a perfectly average 100 ERA+ and struck out over 10/9 at 24 in his first full big league season.
  19. Ken Giles had a season and a half but the Astros gave up a haul for him. This trade has nothing to do with that.
  20. So Moreland is being paid basically what Thames is. I'm not sure what to make of that, seems low. And this in no way is preventing Boston from signing any of those guys. I'm still 99% sure that Encarnacion signs with the Red Sox. After trading for Sale DD is in it to win it.
  21. Bad deal? No. Compared to what other relievers have been traded for? Disappointing. I understand he only had one great season but he's also cheaper, and under more team control than most other relievers. I expected at least one highly ranked prospect for Thornburg but Stearns has a love for the under the radar types. That's all well and good and sometimes it will work out but there's a reason guys are "under the radar" and not talked about.
  22. With it looking like Chris Sale is going to Washington you have to think the Nats are out on McCutchen increasing his odds of going to the Dodgers which would pretty much take them out of the running for Braun and thereby removing the only realistic landing spot for him.
  23. That would be such a Melvin move. Solarte isn't a bad 3B option but it doesn't make any sense for the Brewers to give up any actual prospects for him.
  24. I don't give a hoot about college sports but I watched some of the game last night. Choke job aside, how can Ohio State be ranked higher than both teams playing in their own conferences' championship game?
