  1. Eli is an interesting QB as he is generally above average but prone to tanking for no reason (a couple of weeks ago against the Eagles for example). You know the Packers offense is going to give you 21-28 points so if the defense just doubles and triples Beckham and makes them to attempt to run the ball or throw it to someone else they have a great chance.
  2. All it will take is a bad playoff performance and they'll be out in full force. No, all it will take is not winning the Super Bowl. Doesn't matter how the team actually plays, just that they didn't win.
  3. Thankfully the spoiled Packer fans can stop whining for another week.
  4. Of course he said his goal is to win a World Series. What else is he supposed to say? That was not included a year and a half ago, thus the reason for this thread. Then, the TOP goal was having a highly competitive team, year in and year out. Even the CURRENT Brewers mission statement does not mention anything about bringing a championship to Milwaukee ( the highly competitive team talk is a there, though). Many have view this omission as no big deal, but it really goes to the heart of why we are playing games and having seasons of baseball in Milwaukee. Will we continue to "go for it" when the time presents itself ( get a CC/Greinke) knowing that small markets cannot or simply haven't yet fielded consistently playoff caliber teams over a 10 year period? Or will we follow the model of the 2000s Twins /Rays which clung to young players, prolonging periods of good years but did not trade top prospects for polished players to possibly go further in the playoffs getting a WS title. I'm pretty sure some PR puff piece letter offers no insight into that.
  5. Four seasons away from "seriously competing" seems too long. Of course that depends on your definition of seriously competing. I can see being in wild card contention through late September as soon as 2018. A lot of that is also going to depend on the rest of the division. When does the Cubs lack of young pitching catch up to them? Will the Cards continue to be a developmental juggernaut? Was last year a hiccup for the Pirates or are they headed for even a mini rebuild?
  6. Of course he said his goal is to win a World Series. What else is he supposed to say?
  7. I've said many times that Scooter should at least be tried in the outfield. There is no downside. I would think he too realizes limiting himself to only playing second base isn't great for his career now or in the future.
  8. After 8 years I've finally decided to retire my MacBook. The trackpad barely works, half of the screen flickers, the internet loads so slowly it might as well be dial up, and I haven't gotten an update in about 3 years. Where will I find the lowest price on a new one? From Apple? Amazon? I don't even remember where I bought my current one.
  9. I have no problem losing Diaz. My issue is using 40 man spots on older players who are barely major leaguers before the rule 5 draft and then later letting those guys go for nothing. Sure, you try and catch lightning in a bottle with these 25th man types but dozens of them litter the waiver wire and DFA limbo from February to September. Personally, I'd rather burn options on a guy who might help us in three years than risk losing them by rostering a guy who's an old mid inning reliever on a well below .500 team.
  10. Just get in and see what happens. Looking at potential first round games, playing at Seattle is the only one that looks scary. Although they already beat them and the Cardinals just dismantled them in Seattle.
  11. Just like Geltz, another 40 man spot that could have been used to protect someone from the rule 5 but was used on 4A fodder they didn't even hold on to till spring training. Hindsight is they only lost Diaz but it still seems like Parker and Geltz are guys you can get off the wire at pretty much anytime, especially at the end of spring training, and not really worth a 40 man spot over some of the guys they could have protected. Side note: Are these guys placed on waivers or how does this work in the offseason? You hear all the time about some player randomly being claimed on waivers during the offseason but never hear about them being placed on waivers.
  12. Put me in the "not bad" deal camp. I can't believe no team offered more money. Sure he can't play defense but he's not a one trick pony like Trumbo. He's got a good OBP and a decent AVG to go along with the power.
  13. Back on to Loria. If he was the worst owner is sports he wouldn't have offered this contract to Stanton and would have instead traded him already.
  14. His two halves of last season are such total opposites I don't think you can really take anything he did last year as a projection going forward.
  15. I understand that but he's not just some rich guy looking to get richer for the sake of getting richer. The things he's trying to do are very altruistic but I don't trust him. And not like some industrialist who says his business will bring jobs and help the economy all the while destroying the environment and taking government handouts but like a guy who says he's trying to save the planet but winds up enslaving all of mankind or something like that. The times I've heard him talk his sounds borderline insane and he gives off a weird creepy vibe. I just don't trust him.
  16. I was reading up on him a couple of months ago. He seems like he's doing some things that could provide for the betterment of humanity and the earth but I feel like he's just a step away from becoming a real life bond villain. Not to turn this into politics but, he throws gobs of money at whichever politician will support his projects regardless of party. Basically he's a rich genius who knows how to game the system and can buy anyone he wants. That's dangerous.
  17. This is the elephant in the room that Brewer fans simply ignore because of the fact Braun was a key part of the team(s) the ended this franchises 26-year long playoff drought. I get that. However, I think Braun lost a ton of respect and trust around MLB when he didn't take responsibility when caught as a PED user and instead threw the PED sampler delivery guy Dino Laurenzi, Jr under the bus, in attempt to save face. If you were an MLB owner, would you feel comfortable investing Braun's contract commitment/risk to this type of character? Yes. And twice on Tuesday. And Braun was correct, the testing guy screwed up. Whether that made a difference in the result or not that was Braun's defense and it was true. Melky Cabrera formed a fake company as his alibi for his failed test and he's signed multiple multiyear free agent contracts since. Seriously, the only people who care about PED's are the media and some fans.
  18. To what extent it is true or not is hard to tell, but yesterday's Cafardo piece on Braun notes that there is some devaluation of Braun's control due to the impact a second positive test for PEDs could have on his ability to contribute in the coming years. Anything PED related is nothing but a load of crap made up by a writer or a bald faced lie from an insider. Look at all the guys that have tested positive and still gone on to sign multiyear contracts.
  19. I thought they did stream some bowl games for free. Or maybe at one time they did. I remember having a bowl game on in the background on my work computer a couple years ago.
  20. Which says what? Everyone likes to pile on him for being "the worst owner in sports" but his team has won more championships under his ownership than most of the rest of the league. He's also (at times) made more of an effort to field a competitive team than the vast majority of other teams.
  21. And yet he has more rings than the Brewers do.
  22. $2 Million is still $2 Million. If it saves MA that money he can place it elsewhere. Just do not agree with you at all on this. We could build some more overpriced fancy concession stands with that money.
  23. Wrightstown is really nice and I think would be considered just outside of the Fox Valley area. Especially if you want to live around people but don't want to live in a city. I know nothing about the school district but the high school is somewhat new. You'd be about 20 minutes from both Appleton and Green Bay. Of course I'm only speaking from my experience of driving there to coach against them. The place might actually really suck but it looks nice.
  24. Unless he's going to the bullpen this seems pointless. Garza is the only current starter who isn't young and if they're moving him to the pen they might as well release him. Rotation depth maybe you typically don't sign rotation depth to a major league contract.
  25. How many teams right now have a "franchise hitter" or "ace level pitcher"? Half, maybe. Probably more like about 10 or 12. So basically most teams don't because those types of players are incredibly rare and how they get distributed is randomly, by chance, luck, whatever you want to call it. If there was much skill involved in finding/drafting/developing these types of players there would be multiple teams with multiple players of that caliber.
