  1. Matt Holliday got hit on the hand in the 10th inning of a tie game and broke his thumb against the Cubs last night. I assume Kris Bryant will be drilled today and it will be business as usual.
  2. Please oh please let this happen. I have such a very morbid interest is seeing this. The amount of hypocrisy that will be in St. Louis will be too much and it will probably collapse and cause a Hypocratic Black Hole and suck the whole city in to it.
  3. My son's only 3 months old but I'm pretty sure he's left handed. Anything less than a 15 year MLB career as a relief pitcher will be a disappointment to me.
  4. How early in the year? Talk about making changes to the coaching staff early in the year is usually a bad idea not really worth discussing. It was Briggs and after about 3 weeks into the season he started it. I don't know what sort of an effect DJ is actually having on the rotation but after our pitching's horrible start to the year it hasn't been that bad since. Rock made a comment during a game a couple months ago that Johnson preaches pitching inside and it took some time for the pitchers to get used to it. Maybe that's the reason for the bad start or it was Rock was just talking out of his butt. Most assumed Jungmann was pitching way over his head last year and Peralta's fall started well before Johnson even got here. Anderson's been a disappoint to me. I had him on my fantasy team last year and his overall numbers didn't look great because he got lit up real bad in 3 or 4 starts in a row, otherwise he was a 7 innings, 3 runs, 7 k's a game pitcher. Guerra's success probably falls more on the scouts that found him than a coach. Same more or less with Davies and Garza I'm sure doesn't listen to anything DJ says anyway. The thing about coaches is that fans don't get to see what separates the good ones from the bad ones. We don't get to sit in on the bullpen sessions and meetings in which they actually do their job. Unless there's a drastic change is results we know nothing about how well they're doing their job. The thing I like about DJ from his interviews and things I've read about him is that he actually has a philosophy and a gameplan. I think most pitching coaches only contribute cliches like keep the ball down and keep your front should closed. That being said I think his best role for the organization would be that of a minor league pitching coordinator. Our pitching development sucks. And that's putting it nicely. His college coaching experience would be invaluable working with guys in the lower minors and getting them right before they get to Milwaukee instead of trying to fix them once they get here.
  5. This is spot on. He's so very adequate at everything but his lack of defensive versatility is what's going to hurt him. However, I bet you could throw him in RF or LF every now and then and he's not going to be any worse then Braun or Davis.
  6. Let me rephrase. If the team did not make the playoffs or doesn't have a known superstar the NBA will not put that team on any of their prime time games. Any why would they? They're trying to get ratings, not make everyone feel good.
  7. I've been watching the Little League World Series for the first time in at least 5 years and man how the game has changed. Almost every single kid has a great swing and they just look like athletes. I remember when I last watched half the kids were little pip squeaks who could barely hold a bat and tripped over themselves trying to field a ball. I guess they've made some changed over the last couple of years moving the fences back and switching bats but they really need to lengthen the bases. I just saw a kid get a stand up triple on an average depth dropped fly ball to left field. Any error is at least two bases and any ground ball that's not hit hard to an infielder is a single. It's basically slow pitch softball.
  8. Seems like the term caught fire ever since the Lind trade. I know I've used it, seems to perfectly define a talented rookie ball level player. That's why I use it at least. And no offense taken, I can see how it can be annoying. My BF.net annoyance- TOR starter and #5 starter. Here's how see these defined in BF.net: TOR Starter: We must have a Kershaw or Strasburg in order to compete. #5 Starter: Anyone who is not a TOR starter, and/or doesn't have a 98 MPH fastball. Seemingly, there is never any nuance or in between. I've definitely gotten the feeling from reading a lot here that many posters have no interest in pitching prospects unless they have ace potential.
  9. That's a really good point. Baseball teams will draft or sign a guy just because he's an athlete, regardless of their baseball playing ability or whether or not they have actually ever played baseball. I don't see how this would be any different. The difference is he hasn't played baseball in a decade. I don't know why that would matter. He's still an athlete and that's all some teams will care about.
  10. Milwaukee needs to sign him just to sit on the bench and rough up Villar when he does stupid things.
  11. Please let him go to St. Louis. I just want to see what happens.

  13. Please keep him away from Milwaukee. Gomez and Villar on the same team might be the most frustrating thing I can imagine.
  14. Why do we always assume starters who throw hard but can't throw strikes would be better in the bullpen? Not being able to throw strikes is a major problem no matter what role you're pitching in.
  15. Whoever gave the green light for that should be fired. Not because of any supposed "racial" issues but because it looks terrible. It looks like a Chinese knock-off knock-off.
  16. Maybe us here at BF.net can pool our money together and buy the Sky Sox and move it where ever we want.
  17. So true. Not just become fans but also experts in the sports and the competitors involved.
  18. If Pinto doesn't get a MLB chance this year I don't know why he would come back next year. He's already behind Maldonado, Pina, and almost certainly Susack. He'll easily find better opportunities this offseason.
  19. Doesn't change the fact that Hardy refused to move to 3B which would have greatly helped the past and present of the organization (and the Orioles too) while Villar was just told he's playing 3B as soon as Arcia was called up. The big difference being JJ could actually play defense. Really well. Better than Villar? Yes? Better than Machado or Escobar? No. And how good he really was/is is up for debate as some advanced stats had him as really good and some have him as average. His arm and glove were great but his range wasn't, which would have fit perfectly at 3B.
  20. This guy gets a lot of hate for really nothing other than being a college football media darling. I don't see how it's his fault that ESPN shoved him down our throats his whole college and short-live pro career.
  21. I still don't believe that missing out on a half season of catching would hurt his value at all. If anything it should help him having less wear and tare having not just caught 140+ games, his offensive numbers would go up since he's playing more often, he adds "versatility" to his resume, and he would still be a top flight catcher.
  22. Yea, my guess is they didn't get any offers because teams were concerned about what just happened. Cleary an injury risk when a 31 yr old comes out of nowhere and throws a ton of innings. Didn't Stearns say they had lots of discussions with teams about Guerra?

  24. Lucroy is the only hitter that got traded. He's a good one but the lineup is only missing one guy. And he didn't even play every day. Plus Braun has missed big chunks of time already this season. What's killing the offense right now is that Carter hasn't been able to hit the broadside of a barn for over a month.
