  1. I would really LOL if Lucroy gets traded to Atlanta. For almost a year he's been talking about wanting to play for a contended which he feels Milwaukee isn't. And then to get traded to a team that the Brewers have been miles ahead of in the standings all season would be hilarious. I understand the Braves have a pretty loaded system but they still have to compete with the Nats and Mets.
  2. When you consider how much of this coaching staff was around when Gomez was making the same mistakes, it makes you wonder how much the players really listen to them.
  3. Ya, Lucroy is at his peak now. I understand the whole having more teams to deal with in the offseason but you're still only getting him for one season as opposed to a season and a half now. That is where his value is determined, not in the number of teams competing for him. Plus, he realistically can't hit any better than he is now and with the potential for a foul tip to derail or end his season at any moment there is just way too much risk and not enough gain to hold on to him past this year's deadline.
  4. I have no clue what most of that means. When I get my new one I'll just get whichever one is the prettiest. But since it's a Mac they all look the same.
  5. While they seem pretty preventable I think the group of people that calls him a "moran" for getting thrown out are also the ones who applaud and praise him as he leads the league in steals. He's still a young player learning to steal. Why not in a year with no expectations see how far you can push the envelope? As frustrating as some of the blunders may be between him and our old friend Carlos Gomez, these two players have also contributed to scoring runs and putting themselves in positions to score that other players simply cannot do due to their tools. In any situation you're going to get some good with the bad. Any player. Chris Carter K's, Braun has chronic injuries, Scooter is handcuffed to second and can maybe? hit lefties, etc. That "moran" coming into the season was a castoff by his old organization. Looked at as maybe a utility guy and placeholder until Arcia is ready. Now he could be long term with the organization as he bats around .300 with some pop and speed. Growing pains are part of it. All players do have issues, but the difference is Villars is easily preventable and is doesn't take learning "experience" to determine that his attempts of 3rd aren't worth it even if he was making it. That doesn't mean he's not a good player (his pop has nothing tondo with base running so I'm not sure why it's even mentooned) and that his base running in other areas isn't good, just stop stealing third (the risk vs reward is obviously off) The same things were said about Gomez and he never changed. I mean it makes sense to me to just tell the guy to stop stealing in those situations and if he doesn't he gets bench. So either they're not telling him that, he's not listening and their not doing anything about it, or they are encouraging it. None of those situations reflect well on the coaching staff.
  6. The DBacks sent down Shelby Miller to AAA. He said he was actually surprised they didn't do it sooner. Great trade, Dave. Keep up the good work!
  7. As I type this, I'm in the waiting room at the guru's getting my keyboard replaced. My 8-year-old MacBook Pro runs the current operating system, but it won't take Sierra when it comes out this fall. I want to see what a product refresh brings before buying something new. However, if my machine were near death, I guess I'd grab something right away. Ya, my issue is more hardware than software and it's so not worth sticking money into it.
  8. That's sort of what I'm thinking. The one we had on our trailer when I was a kid was out all summer and survived storms when we weren't there and wasn't too much of a pain to set up and take down.
  9. I'm not. This is what Dombrowski has always done. Use the farm system to upgrade the major league team. I've posted plenty of times in the Lucroy thread that with Dave running things in Boston there is no such thing as an untouchable prospect there.
  10. I think its different. have you ever been to the stadium? I'm guessing not. There are boarded up strip malls right across the street from the ball park. Imagine if miller park was on 16th and National or 35th and North and then you can see why the brewers should leave. My comment was in jest but yes I have been to Maryvale a few times. While the neighborhood doesn't look great I've never felt unsafe there.
  11. Greeting cards are the biggest waste of money and resources. You look at it once and then throw it away. It seems like my wife and I have been sending thank you cards non stop for the last three years. There was the bridal shower, the wedding, the baby shower, the birth, and now we're working on baptism. My mother-in-law sends us a card just about every other week. Did you know there were cards for St. Patrick's Day and Halloween? Well there are. And you're getting at least 3 cards for every big occasion and you get one in the mail before, one in person, and then one in the mail a day or two after. It's my birthday this weekend so I just got a card from her today and it was one of those musical cards so I read it and listened to it and I'll never touch it again. I'm pretty sure you can't even recycle those. Just such a huge waste of money and paper.
  12. Will Smith the next Wade Davis? Smith is a decent reliever but while he's not a LOOGY, he's not a face anybody guy as evidenced by the .762 OPS that RHB have against him.
  13. Isn't someone murdered just about everyday in Milwaukee? Yet the Brewers continue to play there.
  14. I have no clue what this even means. I take it it's a good thing.
  15. All teams can use relief pitching. Each team has 7 or 8 of them so everyone can upgrade.
  16. My wife and I are considering putting in some sort of screened in shelter on our deck next spring. We don't want to actually build any structure off the house but I really don't want something that I'm going to have to assemble and disassemble every year. I assume our stupid winters are going to limit our options. Any Wisconsin (or winter climate) folks have any suggestions?
  17. My MacBook is on it's last leg. After 8 years the track pad sometimes refuses to work, half the screen is dimmer than the rest and sometimes the whole thing goes out for a few seconds, and most everything is too old to be updated so using internet can be a hassle. Overall it still works though. I'm not sure if I want to get a new one now or wait until it dies completely.
  18. Could be something Stearns is learning from Doug Melvin. Keep the cards close to the vest. Every team out there knows what David wants. It's just who (if anyone) is going to give it to him.
  19. I don't think the DH will make a difference for Braun. His problems are his back, his side, and his thumb. All things he hurts from swinging the bat.
  20. The high walk rate doesn't seem to fit with the types of pitchers that Stearns has previously acquired. However, I'm sure that like Ramirez he'll be dumped as soon as something better comes along.
  21. While the media was going bonkers over their start I was watching the standings and at no point do I remember them ever being more than a win or two over the next best record. They are obviously a good team but some were acting like this was the best team ever.
  22. The idea of being aggressive, taking extra bases, and making the defense make a play works great in high school and college but these are major league defenses. Aside from a few butchers in the field (Manny, Adam Dunn) and noodle arms (Khrush, Nyjer) major league defenders are going to get you out the vast majority of the time when you try and push it. Villar is fast and a good base stealer, I don't think anyone would argue that, so please go ahead and try to steal second and maybe go home on an infield ground ball every now and then. But there is such little advantage gained by being on third over second, especially with two outs, that it's just not worth any risk of getting thrown out in my opinion.
  23. Except for the whole specter of injury or suckitude. And this is the Brewers we're talking about so that is bound to happen to anyone that isn't traded this year.
