  1. Something needs to be done about this craziness. Do the taxpayers get any vote in how much of their hard earned money is going to be spent on this?
  2. Good thing we're not playing the Cardinals. Maldy would probably get drilled next time up for being too excited.
  3. That's what they say but this is the first time I can ever remember one happening that. It probably has before but it doesn't seem like it happens very often.
  4. I half want to see Wood get a double here just to put even more disgrace on this team after that last inning.
  5. Step 1 complete. Step 2 complete. Step 3 complete. About what I expected out of this team.
  6. Can't believe the new slide rule hasn't torn up a couple runner knees yet. Fowler went barrelling into the base and came to dead stop. That just looks like a recipe for injury.
  7. Does it bother anyone else that the Rangers had Matt Bush do the dirty work? The guy has worked hard to turn his life around and become a major leaguer and in his 2nd or 3rd game they tell him to drill someone and everyone on the planet knows it is intentional. That seems pretty bush (no pun intended) to me.
  8. Because every year is special.
  9. Fredi's been on the hot seat for a few years as his teams have collapsed a few times at the end of the season. However, I agree that it doesn't make sense when teams that are obviously rebuilding fire a guy before the end of the downswing.
  10. Yes, being taunted and "trash talked" to is very fun. That's why everyone loves bullies. Football eliminated most celebrations when players took them over the top (i.e. Randy Moss "mooning" the Green Bay crowd and players hiding props in the goal posts to use in their celebrations). I'm sure the concern is that players will continue to try to outdo one another and pretty soon you've got a circus. Do we really want to see players moon-walking around the bases or hiding a cell phone under 2nd base and pretending to call someone to describe the home run they just hit? At some point, respecting other human beings should be considered, and if someone does something to disrespect others, then I can understand when that person/group gets upset about it. And, while some fans may like seeing players "taunt and trash talk," other fans won't want that, and it will turn them off from the game. Personally, I like watching baseball for baseball. I dislike watching someone get "taunted and trashed talked to" in pretty much any situation. Do you watch the NFL? Yes they eliminated prop celebrations, that's about it. Standard first down results in a celebration. Sack the QB, run around and dance after. Huge celebration for every TD, let alone a game winner in the playoffs (equivalent of walk off playoff HR). Then thrown the standard in your face trash talking player do on every play. Umm, I don't think the NFL has a problem with popularity. Do you watch the NBA? It's all trash talking and celebrating for routine 3s or dunks throughout regular season games. The most popular player in the world (Curry) dances and celebrates 3s and even turns and talks trash to the opposing teams bench during the game. NBA is at the height of it's popularity. Which sport does have a problem with popularity, especially among youth? You guessed it, baseball. There are celebrations aplenty in the NFL and most often for totally minor reasons. The opposing team pretty much never has a problem with it. However, celebrating a game winning hit gets you or a teammate drilled.
  11. I know Villar has been thrown out a few times trying to stretch things and I haven't "seen" them all. But of the few I have they have all been bang bang plays that he was very close to making, nothing wrong with that imo. Gomez was often getting thrown out by a 1/3 of the basebath in situations that didn't require any need to push it. Several times trying to steal 3rd with 2 outs and Braun at the plate. Just stupid, almost any hit from Braun (really anyone if you're gomez) and you're scoring anyway. The argument that his positives outweigh the negatives is true, but doesn't mean the criticism isn't warranted and an area he should have improved on as he grew up. All players should be looking to improve on their weaknesses, and that was his weakness. I've seen Villar get thrown out a couple times too. A couple times too many if you ask me but his are the result of being aggressive. Many of Gomez's outs were the result of stupidity. He seemed to think he could outrun any throw.
  12. Push their win total from 70 to 72 is about it. Even without economics I don't see much of a reason to bring him up this season.
  13. Pretty sure that was leftover from the bat flip deal. Batista admitted he slid like he did because he was upset because he got hit and he got hit because of his bat flip last year. It just boggles my mind that the bat flip had made the Rangers so upset. Had Toronto drilled someone at the plate or Utley'd a middle infielder I could understand but no one was physically harmed. Grow up, get over it, move on.
  14. Let's be honest though. It was "started" by the Rangers hitting Bautista with a pitch in his at bat. The slide at 2nd base was retaliation for the HBP. I'm not saying the aggressive slide was right or ok, but the series of events was started by the HBP. (One might say that the series of events was started by the bat flip in the playoffs last year, but this thing where grown men have to resort to violence because of hurt feelings is super old and tired) I know I'm very much in the minority but I enjoy watching bench clearing brawls and beanball wars. However, the Rangers need to take off their diapers and put on their big boy pants about the whole bat flip thing. It was a big moment in the playoffs for a team that hasn't had success in a long time. Get over it.
  15. I don't know what you do with him but he's pitching like trash. I don't see how getting irregular work out of the pen is going to help him. His biggest problem is command so I guess you tell him to go to Colorado Springs and just work on hitting spots, results be damned.
  16. I think some of it might be because so often a "construction zone" looks nothing like a construction zone. My first speeding ticket I got was for doing 64 in a 55 construction zone. I was last in a line of cars, so there were others going as fast or faster than me, and there was no actual construction going on. There were orange barrels but no people, equipment, or any signs of work. I haven't been on I43 in a while but the last time I was there were a few stretches for miles with reduced speed for construction zones that were similar and no one was slowing down. I was because I always do since I got the ticket.
  17. Now that he's back I'm reminded again of why I don't understand how people can enjoy him. He does nothing well other than not be annoying. Vanilla would call him bland
