  1. He's a 30 year old who's thrown 23 good innings in his career. I'm not sure what ceiling or upside he has. We might luck out and he finds some control for 3 months but that's about all that can be expected.
  2. I have no interest in Cron and, based on what he's said publicly and his moves so far, I don't think Stearns does either.
  3. These are the Brewers OF'ers that will almost certainly be AAA or higher. Davis Santana Braun Peterson Broxton Flores Presley Reed Phillips Wren Barring injury, trade, etc. Davis and Braun are the only ones guaranteed to be in Milwaukee. Wren, Phillips, and Reed should be the OF in Colorado Springs. That leaves 5 guys for 3 or so spots. Peterson is certainly a DFA candidate but just logistically speaking some of these guys need to be moved.
  4. He's a LOOGY that can maybe be flipped at the deadline. His impact on the 2016 Brewers will most likely be little more than nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if he's released at some point in 2016. But it's a minor league deal so whatever.
  5. Maybe this is why the Brewers reportedly have interest in James Loney. I think it would be a pointless move to acquire him but I guess it would make sense.
  6. Unless you mean Trent Clark, Matt Clark is no longer a member of the organization. I guess he's a minor league free agent but I don't know if there's an organization with less depth at 1B right now.
  7. I don't think a lot of people know that and I don't think he makes a big deal of it either. I most often hear him mentioned as a Californian or at least as a Californian band.
  8. I wasn't comparing them in terms of talent but career trajectory I guess.
  9. Exactly. The whole point of this was to stay in the news while the Packers are gearing up for the playoffs and the Bucks/Badgers season is in full swing.
  10. Doubt the Rays would give up that many years of cost controlled talent without getting some back. They really do love pitch framing though based off of the dumb contracts they've given to Jose Molina and Ryan Hanigan.
  11. Isn't Middlebrooks basically Jean Segura? Highly rated prospect, had a few hot months at the beginning of his career, and been terrible since. I have no problem with the signing but I doubt anything good comes of it.
  12. The Brewers have much better pitching and, as of this moment, still have Braun, Lucroy, and Davis. The Reds will be worse than Milwaukee. As bad as everyone thinks (hopes, wishes, prays) the Brewers will be next year. The Reds will be worse. After they trade Phillips and Bruce they will have a lineup that is Votto and a guy who runs really fast. They've got to be a lock to lose 100 games, especially playing almost 1/3 of their games against the Cardinals, Cubs, and Pirates.
  13. If Doug and Ron were still around I would assume he would be the opening day 3B with Pressley in CF and probably Pedro Alvarez at 1B. With David and Craig running the show who's to say at this point.
  14. Which doesn't make any sense. Pitcher - strikeouts = good! Batter - strikeouts = meh I don't get it. logan basically explained why it is this way. The amount of times where a batter comes up and a strike out matters is insignificant compared to when a pitcher comes up and a strikeout matters. This is basically the pitcher gets more opportunities to be put into the situations than a batter does over the course of a year. Strikeouts for a batter just do not correlate well to success for a batter but does for a pitcher. The best stat if you want to use just one would be OBP as that is going to correlate more to the overall success of a team than strike outs will. Now look at this and tell me which team you would expect to be the best team of these five teams: Team 1. 1299 Strikeouts Team 2. 1107 Strikeouts Team 3. 1290 Strikeouts Team 4. 1255 Strikeouts Team 5. 1274 Strikeouts Is that is a one season sample? If so, I wouldn't take much of anything from it. I'm not saying strikeouts are evil and you need to avoid them at all costs. But if you build teams like the Brewers have for the last decade or so with all or nothing, strikeout prone batters, you'll get those results where your offense will go a month scoring only 2 or 3 runs a game.
  15. With revenue sharing does attendance even make a difference for a team like the Brewers who are always going to be in the bottom half of revenue anyway?
  16. Which doesn't make any sense. Pitcher - strikeouts = good! Batter - strikeouts = meh I don't get it.
  17. The Cubs traded Castro, otherwise they still have all their young guys. The money spent really isn't an issue for them as long as they can keep from trading their young players. The Astros I worry about. Their system is still in ok shape but the Gomez and Giles trade have made a dent in it and it sounds like their willing to throw some stupid money at things. The Royals are in a tricky spot. They won't be able to afford to keep Cain, Hosmer, Moose, and the rest of the guys that have gotten them where they are. At what point do they start trading those guys? Now might be the time. The AL Central is pretty crappy right now. It might be smart to move one of those guys now while the rest of the division is down and the hit won't hurt their competitiveness.
  18. How "bad" or "not bad" a strikeout is depends on the situation. Runner on third, less than two outs it's generally going to be more beneficial to just put the bat on the ball than strikeout. With no runners on base a strikeout is just an out. You can't really just say strikeouts don't matter or strikeouts are bad. I think watching the Brewers over the last few seasons would convince some people that you can't dismiss strikeouts as just another out. However, since pitchers are dominating these days with strikeouts and defensive shifts are creating massive holes in the infield I think having a few more contact orientated players on a team would be beneficial.
  19. Explain how the trades for Villar, Flores, Cecchini, and Pina are playing for 2020.
  20. I touched on it in the rule 5 thread but I wonder how much Stearns shares the Astros philosophy on bullpens. You take a look at their bullpen and it's cost them a lot in terms of money and talent. Gregerson, Sipp, and Neshek were free agents and now this trade for Giles. I know a lot of posters here are against spending big for relievers but that's what the Astros have done. I'll be interested to see what Stearns does.
  21. I feel like the player has to go unclaimed before a deal can be made with his old team, but I'm not 100% on that. I remember everyone and their mother had a different interpretation, but no definite answer, of that rule when we were dealing with Wang a couple years ago.
  22. I took this picture mainly to show how bad of a hitter Segura is but it also shows how bad of a catcher Schwarber is. http://i.imgur.com/Aagh1Zw.jpg Classic Segura. Probably had a hitter's count, too. I imagine that ump is hoping he remembered to put his cup in before the game.
