  1. If the lights out happens in 2016 or 2017 in a year where the team isn't competing for anything and the flame out happens during a playoff run, is it really a win though? If the lights out is in 2016-2017, you have the option to flip him for help elsewhere. Let somebody else deal with the flameout, or the big money in arbitration/free agency. I would agree that flipping him would be a good idea but would Stearns really trade a good, young, cheap relief pitcher just as the team is becoming competitive? I don't know. The Astros bullpen is pretty much built with free agents and trades. The Brewers have historically botched it with their flash in the pan relievers holding on to Turnbow, Axford, and Henderson too long. Kolb was the only one they got anything for and Cappellan was a failure in his own right.
  2. Ya, I would disagree. His couple hot months almost cost the club a lot as he was offered an extension but thankfully turned it down. We might actually have been stuck with him for awhile while paying him for 2 months of success.
  3. That's a good thing??? Guess you don't remember when he was likes out & exciting until he flamed out....crashed burned. If Jones can give us at least 1 year like Turnbow had before his collapse, that is a huge win for a rule 5 pick If the lights out happens in 2016 or 2017 in a year where the team isn't competing for anything and the flame out happens during a playoff run, is it really a win though?
  4. This trade went from looking really good at the time, to looking even better when Segura and Hellweg were dominating, to looking like the Brewers are ultimately going to get nothing out of. Of course Zack should have been traded but the result seems really disappointing. Didn't Zack also tank for the Angels and they missed the playoffs?
  5. My wife is trying to get her maternity leave set up. She went to HR and they told her she has to do it on the company's HR website. After spending many hours on the HR site we have no clue what to do because nothing on the site makes sense. So she is going to have to talk to the real people at work (again) about how to do something on a site that exists so the people she is going to be talking to don't actually have to do their job when she could have just skipped the middle man and talked with real people in the first place.
  6. He's terrible. Imagine Yuni B trying to catch.
  7. There are so many players in the mix, hard to say how this will all shake out by April. Could be more trades, injuries, etc. I'm not a big Segura fan, but the guy has shown in the past he has some power and can get on base. Lots of young players have these ups and downs early in their career, and I think it's worth having one more look. Just look at all the guys the Brewers have been acquiring. Many are coming off down years, it's why they're available. So why not take the same chance on guys we already have under control? Throwing out the first three months of his career Segura has two months with an OPS over .700. He doesn't have power and it is never coming back. As far as his OBP skills have you looked at his stats? Outside of his first three months in 2013 his OBP isn't even sniffing .300. If that is good OBP skills the sport is in a sad sad state. I am sorry but the guy grounded into more double plays than he had walks. That is a joke and even sadder when you consider he is pretty fast. I guess he doesn't strikeout too often, but the amount of weak ground balls he hits and the amount of first pitch outs he has probably takes away any real positive. 14 Double Plays Grounded Into / 13 Walks / .280 OBP If anyone can someone turn Jean Segura into an average SS that guy deserves coach of the year. There is so much wrong with his overall game it would take something really special to turn him around. Exactly, I don't see what the posters who see Segura having any offensive value at all are seeing. He's been terrible since he had a few hot months to start out a couple years ago. His approach is terrible, he really doesn't have much power, and most of his contact results in weak ground balls. I don't care what his age is, he's has 3 years to make adjustments and he hasn't. And please don't anyone bring up Carlos Gomez.
  8. This gets me even more excited about this trade. Thank you for sharing. I do not pretend to know anything about these three pitchers but the all do carry similarities (High K/BB% and good control). So I was good with the trade because I at least felt Stearns wasn't just drawing straws hoping he got a good one but instead went into the trade looking for prospects who possessed specific traits or advanced metric numbers. Well, I would hope the Brewer scouts thought at least one of these guys would be something special. Otherwise, what was the point in acquiring them?
  9. I refuse to believe that Heyward's defense is that good that it makes up for his only above average offense to make him really worth $20MM a season. Especially when you consider all the great defense is in RF, but he's going to be playing CF, where I'm sure he's still above average. However, should a sub .800 OPS CF with above average defense be paid $20M a season? Was Shane Victorino in his prime ever worth that much? Having said that I still think this is a pretty good deal for the Cubs. Unless he has a serious injury, he's opting out after that third year and they'll be rid of that contract. Also, his middle name is Alias, which I find hilarious.
  10. Really enjoyed this article. Appears to be a smart guy with an understanding of what he is doing at the plate and why. I can see him having a decent career. Would be nice to stick it to the Cardinals as well after they released him. wow. masters in engineering from Stanford. Smart dude. Screw the field. Put him in the front office.
  11. I agree this seems like a high risk, low reward trade. If given the choice I'd rather have DJ Peterson than these 3. Peterson isn't going to light the league on fire, but he's probably a corner IF platoon bat which does have value especially for a small market team. So you want Peterson and zero young pitchers with pitchability and upside OVER Cecchini and 3 young pitchers with pitchability and upside? Wow Ya, not even close to what I said. Cecchini has nothing to do with this trade and I'm fine with acquiring him. These 3 guys that Lind was traded for are more than likely to never amount to anything like most teenage international signings and even if they do it doesn't seem like they have much of a ceiling. And while I like what I see from stats about their command, they're still teenagers playing against teenagers, and I don't know what you can really take from those stats. I would rather have acquired a guy like Peterson who is very likely to at least make the majors and could fill either the 1B or 3B positions that this organization has huge holes at.
  12. You are the only one on the board who thought the Brewers had a chance to be competitive next year. I guess that explains why you've hated every move they've made so far. Every year is special.
  13. Like both these picks. The 2016 infield looks like it will be all utility or utility-level hitting players plus Scooter.
  14. I just don't see the guys acquired as high reward types. Which combined with their high risk makes it an underwhelming deal. We'll know a lot more next year though. Also don't knock average. An average first baseman might have done wonders in 2013 or 2014. No team fields 8 All Stars and an Ace every game. Arguably they wasted prime years of Grienke, Gomez, Lucroy, and Braun by not having enough average players. I agree this seems like a high risk, low reward trade. If given the choice I'd rather have DJ Peterson than these 3. Peterson isn't going to light the league on fire, but he's probably a corner IF platoon bat which does have value especially for a small market team.
  15. I would think Smith has the second highest trade value on the major league roster behind Lucroy. He really serves no purpose for the Brewers in their current state. I'd like to see him moved. However, a year as the closer or at least co-closer might be needed to really get something worthwhile.
  16. #OnlyBrewersFansRemember I don't get it. Isn't it true? Or is this supposed to be about Lawrie telling the organization which position he was going to play?
  17. Alvarez. Gross. Why not just bring Mark Reynolds back. At least he could plat 3B if needed.
  18. What kind of ceiling do these guys have? From what I've read here I see Davies or bullpen. That's of course if they become anything at all. If there really were 20 or so teams interested in Lind I can't believe this is the best offer they got. This trade just seems like trying to be cute and overthinking. I will say that I like the K and BB numbers I see from these guys but they're high schoolers playing against other high schoolers, not much you can really take from that.
  19. If there a LHB CF available in the rule 5 to platoon with Santana? Isn't that what happened in Philly with their CF last year?
  20. No need to trade Baez. Maddon plays guys all over the place. Zobrist will play 2B, 3B, and corner OF. With all the moving around Baez is going to get 400ish AB's.
  21. I don't see how they are at all comparable. Segura's career 81 OPS+ overshadows Castro's 97. And Jean's is only that high because of the first half of 2013, otherwise it's probably more low 70's. I get the contract issues, but Segura is pretty much useless no matter how much he's paid.
  22. But don't the Brewers already have Michael Reed, who could be pretty much that player, and who has the added benefit of already being on the 40-man roster? My feelings on CF. Santana and Reed combo. This Stearns want scares me because he's not sounding like he's going to accept a 70win type season this year. And ignoring the Reed, Taylor, Phillips within the organization to place in CF during this time of roughly 70wins. Hey lets add 4 wins, trade away one of our young assets and get a CF you desire? So is Stearns really the GM or Melvin? with his "other named title" None of the moves so far this season are in the mold of Melvin. Stearns is clearly running the show.
  23. You forgot to hit the sarcasm button.
  24. Elf is the only Chistmas-focused movie I can tolerate. The live action Grinch is creepy and I can't believe it's supposed to be a chldren's movie or that it was directed by Ron Howard.
  25. If this was the NFL how many games would Chapman have been suspended for before having it overturned? This whole situation sounds terrible but I wasn't there and have no idea what happened and he better not be suspended at all until he is actually convicted of something. Hopefully Manfred has learned from Goodell's mistakes with these situations.
