  1. After being injured for basically a whole season I don't see a lot of teams jumping at Span with expensive multi-year deals. A one year deal to stay healthy and hit in Miller Park could be great for him to get that money in 2017. The guy I'm kind of interested in is Alex Jackson. He's a free agent who will almost certainly be getting a one year, value builder deal. His defense has generally been good, although his dWar looks to be down this year. Same thing as Span, hitting in Miller Park for a year might be great for his value. Prior to 2014 he put up a .750ish OPS in Detroit but has been brutal since. Players generally don't just forget how to hit at age 27 and I'd be willing to take a gamble that he still can in 2016.
  2. Surprised it took this long for him to get fired. He's been pretty terrible his whole tenure. Having said that, please keep him as far away from Milwaukee as possible. The organization needs need people with new ideas. While Z may have done some good things for Milwaukee it ultimately didn't really go anywhere. It's time for a new approach.
  3. Hadn't realized the Brewers actually have a better record than the Reds.
  4. [rural auto mechanic's voice] Welp, that's yer problum right thar...[/] Dude is a bit of a knob I guess that and Bowa too. If you watch it those are the only two that have that reaction. I think that batter was actually laughing at everything that was going on.
  5. Gomez grew up and learned how to play baseball in a country and culture where showing emotion while playing was common place. This is generally frowned upon in America, however. Nothing about this is controversial or racism. It is fact. That some players, coaches, media, fans, etc. get their panties in a bunch when a player show emotions such as excitement or frustration in ways that are non-confrontational or not derogatory to opponents or umpires is stupid.
  6. Here's one of the things I've learned in my 10+ years as an adult involved in baseball. It doesn't matter what level I've coached or played on (high school, college, adult) a lot of guys just look for stupid things their opponent does to get pissy about. Slid too hard, pitched too close to me, swung at a 3-0 pitch up by a lot, bunted when you shouldn't have, played too hard, was too excited about doing something good, stole a base when you shouldn't have, didn't wear your hat the right way, and those are just things I can remember right now. I've never really been involved in any other sport before so maybe this is common but it's happened countless times that I've shook my head in disbelief because a team I was coaching or playing against was so upset because of something so minor.
  7. http://m.mets.mlb.com/news/article/145548668/mets-putting-quick-pitch-incident-behind-them Can someone explain the deal here? The Mets pitcher threw a pitch just after the batter stepped in the box. The umpire yells time in the middle of the pitch and everything is fine until Jeff Francauer starts yelling from the dugout. You can hear him yell something about getting hit in the head or something like that. The umpire tells him to sit down because he's running onto the field. Larry Bowa gets upset and gets tossed. On his way out he gets into an argument with Daniel Murphy and motions that they are going to drill him in the ribs. So the pitch was no where near the batter. It was an 82 MPH fastball right down the middle. Clearly, once the ump called time the pitcher slowed down and just lobbed the pitch in there like he should have done. The pitch should have been legal too because I didn't see the ump with his hand up calling time before the pitch. In fact, he was in his crouch behind the catcher waiting for the pitch and then just inexplicably called time. The batter had two feet in the box. Play is on. I don't see what the problem is here. If the hitter isn't going to pay attention when he has two feet in the box, that's his problem, not the pitcher's.
  8. I saw two of them and Lucroy's throws were right on the money. The Brewers staff just doesn't give a crap about having a quick delivery. I've noticed Nelson and Peralta are huge offenders of this.
  9. I'm pretty sure it's been proven that steroids are the Cardinal Way. Oh, and booze too.
  10. My opinion is he has a 10 cent head on the field and all the whiny little children that have a problem with him showing emotion need to get over themselves.
  11. I would agree with this. Pujols was a huge dude during his peak years.
  12. Carlos Gomez apparently still doesn't play the game the right way, even for the Astros. The Yankees took offense to something he did, possibly that he lightly grazed someone on a slide.
  13. Darrell Hammond and now Norm MacDonald have played Colonel Sanders in the KFC commercials. Who's next? Dennis Miller? Collin Quinn? Chevy Chase?
  14. I would guess the vast majority of people who go to a Trats game have no clue who he is.
  15. My wife has the worst taste in movies. Her collection is all kids movies, Rom-Cons, or dance/singing/music type films. Most times we want to watch a movie we wind up not watching one because we can't agree on one.
  16. This is so big, yet rarely talked about. I'd like to see what Ruth, Gehrig, or Williams' numbers would look life if they played against anyone other than just white guys.
  17. I agree with all this. Also, are these even the best kids this age? At this age aren't the really talented ones playing on elite traveling teams already?
  18. Highly doubt it. The results aren't there, but he's throwing in the upper 90's. You give an arm like that every single last chance you can. Sure he's a long shot to make any sort of impact in MLB, but it's a long shot worth taking considering all of the players coming off of the 40-man. He'll be 28 next year and can't find the strike zone. He's walked 6.5/9 in the minors and over 7/9 in the majors. I don't care how hard you throw, those numbers are terrible. It's entirely possible he could turn it around and give you a couple decent years but for every John Axford there are 100 Michael Olmsted's.
  19. This is beyond hypothetical. This is unicorns giving birth to leprechauns fantasy land. The deal ends at Mauer because the Twins will never trade him. If you get past that I'd want more back than a bunch of a teams 2nd tier prospects for Lucroy and Braun who blows Mauer's number out of the water.
  20. [sarcasm]If you go on the 15 year plan it works great as you get prospects exponentially. Trade a major leaguer for 2 prospects. Trade those prospects for 2 prospects each. Then trade those prospects for 2 prospects each and so on and so on. Eventually you'll have thousands of prospects![/sarcasm]
  21. Yes. And I'm pretty sure there is some evidence of Babe Ruth using what were the PED's of his time.
  22. I rarely agree with JB on anything but I agree with this. Hellweg is pretty much toast as a prospect and should be removed from the 40 man this offseason. Maybe another team will take a shot at him but I doubt it. And if he is claimed I wouldn't count it as a loss for the organization.
  23. The Packers were on every radio station I could find but one. How can the radio stations make any money when they're carrying the same thing as like 10 other stations?
  24. Centeno I think is guaranteed, unless they want to give Ashley a try. Sarinas has to be given a shot as he's probably going to make the 2016 roster. I would think Clark gets the call too. And then a couple of pitchers.
  25. He's got 2 more years on his contract and unless he's still putting up a .750ish OPS I don't see any team signing him. He will basically be Bonds'ed out of baseball. Frankly, I don't give a rats behind about steroids and would like to see him break the record. At some point MLB is going to have to realize it can't just ignore the records of players it doesn't like and having Bonds and Arod 1 and 2 on the all time homerun list should help end that.
