  1. Despite the sometimes ridiculousness of posters here, I would still rather discuss baseball at BF.net than with most real people. Recently hung out with some friends who are rather well-informed baseball fans and most of the talk was about the trade deadline and what the Brewers should do. It was generally head-smacking worthy. The general consensus among the group (me excluded) was that Khris Davis is terrible and should be traded and replaced with Shane Peterson, Parra should be resigned because he's the best OF the team has, there's no way Gomez should be traded, the Brewers should trade for draft picks instead of prospects, and the Aoki trade was terrible.
  2. Prince is gone and I don't see anyone on this team who has the kind of personality to do such a thing. Lohse maybe.
  3. Based on trades so far, either the Brewers are going to get quite a haul of prospects this year or Doug has way overplayed his hand and all the good ones have been traded already.
  4. That was just stupid by the umpire. From what was shown he never said a word to anyone nor looked at anyone as he walked off the field. Fine him, sure. But the ejection was totally uncalled for.
  5. I would guess some guys have the green light to steal whenever they want. Gomez probably for sure but he's too stupid to know when the right and wrong time is to do it. He also may not have the green light and just thinks he can do whatever he wants. Bunting and stealing on the same play might be designed. A fast guy stealing second on a bunt can make it to third if everything goes right. Double steals are hard because the trail runner has to make sure the lead runner goes and therefore doesn't get a great jump. It's better the stay put then have a close play at second. Swinging 2-0 no matter what the score isn't really a bad play. It's probably going to be a good pitch to hit. Unless the pitcher has been wild all game you might as well take a hack at it. Swing extra hard. That's just how baseball is played now a days. There are very few hitters that will change their swing for the situation. It sucks. But that's the way it is for just about every team.
  6. Great trade for Colorado. And they will probably trade Reyes and get even more out of it.
  7. No, they are afraid of the PR backlash from the transaction. The only place it's ever mentioned is on BF. I wouldn't be surprised if there are team executives who don't even know anything about it.
  8. I would think so too but it probably has to do with who pays for the upkeep. Hawaii has 3 interstate highways.
  9. I was up for this until I looked into Arcia further. He's been a worse hitter than Davis and they've both been equally bad on defense. Davis doesn't need a platoon partner as he hits both LHP (.782 career OPS) and RHP (.794) the same. If Arcia could play CF then having a left handed hitting 4th OF would be great but he can't so he just wouldn't have a place on the roster.
  10. About what can be expected for a return for KRod?
  11. Gas tax. I believe Wisconsin has one of the highest in the country. Some friends of my wife live in Marinette and everyone that lives there goes to Menominee when they need gas.
  12. The Brewers are either going to get shut out or put up 10 runs on this guy. There is no in between. The way the offense has been going lately I'm going with shut out.
  13. 6 man rotation. Take your loss every 6th day that Lohse pitches and saves Jungmann and Nelson some innings. It's too obvious not to happen.
  14. No pick. Under the old system maybe, but not anymore.
  15. Ya, I'm so confused. "We want to lose more so we get a higher pick. But get rid of Lohse cause he sucks." Make up your mind.
  16. What about the Mets this year who played out of their mind for a stretch? Are they one of the best teams in baseball? No even close, but they could make the postseason in a "half" format.
  17. Brewers send Cardinals Carlos Gomez. Cardinals send the world continued hypocrisy by praising Gomez for playing the game the right way with passion and integrity.
  18. He's has one "stud" season and a few other very good ones. But I'd still take Reed putting up a .350ish OBP even if he doesn't hit a single homerun.
  19. Because there's a chance you could sign the free agent. I guess I don't see him saying he's going to retire as a guarantee he's not going to play next year. Going back to Pittsburgh and playing for a winning team might make him want to play another year.
  20. The fact hes retiring makes it definitive How is that any different than trading a guy who's going to be a free agent? Which he also is going to be.
  21. Whether Perez or Gillaspie, 3B in 2016 is just spinning wheels. Neither of these guys projects as anything other than cheap and controllable and needing to be replaced as soon as a better option comes along.
  22. I'm just totally pulling this out of my hiney after seeing reports that the Dodgers have gone sour on Puig. Puig came in and lit the league on fire but has not came close to repeating that rookie season losing about 75 OPS points every season since. Still it's near 800 playing in Dodger Stadium. The OBP has always been there, in fact so far in his worst season his OBP is still about Braun level, but the power has gone from HR's to 2B's. He is still only 24 mind you and under contract for 3 more years at half what Braun is getting paid and Ryan is only going to get worse going forward. Braun would give the Dodgers one of the best offenses in baseball and Puig would give the Brewers an OF'er to replace Braun's production and that of Gomez when he leaves/is traded. For not on-the-field reasons, Braun will get to "go home" and Puig will go somewhere where the national media won't pay any attention to his antics. Although having Puig and Gomez in the same clubhouse could turn it into a 3 ring circus but it would be fun to play the Cardinals with those 2 in the same lineup. Now please go ahead and tear this apart and tell me how stupid I am.
  23. Everyone is super excited about this guy and he's starting to get some national attention. Apparently his defense is great, which would be nice to have at SS after having Segura and Yuni there the last few years, but what about his bat? Are we talking Alcides Escobar/Elvis Andrus mid-600's OPS or more Starlin Castro-low 700's?
