  1. He's an MLB-caliber SS in his early 20s with upside. If he were actually a great player right now then then there's no way the Brewers (or any other team) would be trading him. He is 25...I don't think that is early 20s. Early 20s to me is 23 or younger. While 25 is still young, for an international prospect that is quite a bit of pro experience under his belt. This whole "potential" thing just seems like wishful thinking with not much to back it up. I have seen flashes of being decent and having some gap power, but that could just be a hot streak like any other player goes through. I'm sure he is worthy of more than his current production because he is still youthful, but you can't avoid the fact he has been below average for two full years now. Right now he has proven to be nothing more than a low end MLB -caliber SS. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I haven't seen any signs to make me worried. Agreed. Segura's spent 3.5 years in the majors and has shown nothing special outside of the first couple months of 2013. 25 isn't old but it really isn't that young for today's game so he may improve but unless he changes his horrible approach at the plate it's probably not going to happen. If someone wants him now, you take that deal.
  2. I understand Scooter is basically worthless against lefties, but if you can get something for Segura right now I'll take my chances with Scooter at 2B almost everyday. And this is coming from who has been skeptical of Scooter from the beginning. Scooter's offensive numbers so far have blown Segura out of the water .756 career OPS to Segura's .675. Defensively we haven't seen Segura at 2B but I can't imagine he's that much better to make up for the offensive difference. Honestly I think we need to take advantage of the fact that Segura is youngish and has a few years of control to turn him into something worthwhile.
  3. I just looked at Segura's numbers for the first time this year. I assumed he was doing better than last year because I don't think it's possible for him to do worse and I've also seen a lot less discussions about how bad he is this year. Not much difference. Only hitting a tiny bit better this year than last. I think we need to accept that 2013 was an outlier and Segura is not much of a player. He needs to be moved now while teams still want him and you can get something of any value for him.
  4. Schaefer would almost certainly finish out the year there. Wren probably gets some CF time in September. I really hope neither of them is the full time CF in 2016. I know the team is going to be terrible anyway but I would prefer they sign a Colby Rasmus type guy - a veteran who can't get a multiyear deal and is just trying to showcase himself for a multiyear deal next offseason - as the starter.
  5. Who really cares what the 2015 outfield looks like. Everyone wants the #1 pick anyway, having a horrible outfield would help.
  6. What do you all see as the % that Lucroy gets dealt? Over 50%? Over 75%? Less. 25%, if that.
  7. I would think (hope) that with all the teams that could really use Parra he will bring back something more than he is actually worth. KC should be interested. Rios has been terrible all year so they are really down to only one OF in Cain.
  8. Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but was there some sort of blurb about this? Ramirez has DH'd 7 times this year with monthly breakdowns of 1-3-2-1 (to date). There are many reasons that he would occassionally DH and while he definitely seems to be poor defensively in his first year in the OF, I haven't seen anything that would suggest him DH'ing is the trend to expect moving forward. If that is indeed the case, I would agree that including Lind would make less sense depending on their game plan next year. I re-read the other article and it was more writer speculation than anything about DHing Hanley because he's a terrible OF but it does give them their best defensive lineup. Either way, they have 3 1B with Ortiz, Napoli, and Travis Shaw.
  9. Thanks for the info! So I assume that would mean the umpires in New York communicate that to the press box, and not the umpires on the field? I'm guessing that would be the case because, as I said earlier, I can't recall any umpires making any type of motion that would indicate the call stood vs. being confirmed. The umpires might be told but I guess what does it really matter to a manager anyway? I know the press box is told because sometimes you can hear it in the background on the radio.
  10. Boston really has no use for Lind. They've actually been playing Ortiz at first because Hanley has been so brutal in the OF he's being DH'd.
  11. That seems pretty pointless even for Melvin (or Mark) to do. If you are going to trade major league players for major league players getting older/worse/more expensive players doesn't do anything to help you in any way. If Lucroy is traded Maldonado is fine to ride out the season. If Lind is traded, Lucroy probably gets a few games at first if he's still on the team, otherwise Rogers and Clark have the position.
  12. I think those in the press box are the only ones who know for sure.
  13. This has been a Brewer M.O. for years. One guy walks on four pitches, the pitcher had clearly been struggling to find command throughout inning before the walk, next guy hacks at first pitch - a borderline strike - and weakly grounds out. I actually yelled at Tucker Newhouse (as much as one can from the stands) during yesterday's Trats game because of this. They had just loaded the bases on a walk and the pitcher was all over the place. He swung at the first pitch (probably was a ball too) and hit an infield fly for the 2nd out. Stupid baseball.
  14. Got to see Williams in person today. I hope it was an off day for him because he did not look good at all. Huang looked good for Kane County. Hadn't heard of him before but now I'll keep an eye on him. Maybe I'm wrong but that out on appeal play was an incredibly blown call. I had the runner and the catch both in my line of sight for the play and there was no way he left early. I don't know how an umpire can make that call on a play like that. Both umps were pretty bad today though in my opinion.
  15. Arod's having a better year than Braun and didn't make it. Yet, Brock Holt does. What a joke.
  16. My wife played in high school and was a state something or other so she's tried explaining it to me. Still, all I see is some person kicks the ball to another person on their team and then the other team steals the ball or one team just ends up kicking the ball even further away from their goal and the process happens all over again. No one gets anywhere. If the field was about half as big maybe I could get something from it.
  17. You contradict yourself in this post. You say "he shouldn't cost that much to acquire" and in same breath say "he should fetch something of value" Which is it? He's playing really well and he's just 28. Brewers could keep him, extend him a QO offer and if he signs elsewhere, then he does indeed "fetch something of value". Worst case is they are stuck with him for 2016 paying him Aramis Ramirez money for one year and you can trade Davis for considerable value. Why settle for B or C level prospects for two of the hottest hitters in baseball in Lind and Parra? Why not focus on controllable major league talent in return? I'd take Brandon Belt and a B level prospect for Lind and Parra. Lucroy and Braun aren't going anywhere. Seems kind of foolish to gut the entire rest of the roster around those two. Can you stop with the QO offer nonsense. It should not and will not happen.
  18. This is not even remotely true. Adding a true, legit, #1 pitcher to the rotation makes it a rotation of a #1 and 4 question marks instead of 5 question marks. That rotation does not put the Brewers ahead of the Cardinals or the Pirates, probably not even the Cubs. That wouldn't even be a "top contender" for the division. Best case scenario would be lots of injuries to those 3 teams, a healthy Brewers team, and barely making it into the wild card game. I'm not willing to take that gamble. Parra accepting a QO next year means he'll have about $7M left on his contract at the trade deadline. That's a lot of money for a team to take on for a guy who's a 3/4 OF. And why wait to get the "B level prospect" next year when you could get him this year? Bottom line, there is no reason for Parra to be a Brewer in 2016 unless no one wants him in free agency and he comes back on a cheap, one year deal.
  19. I'm going to the game on Tuesday. Was hoping to see Kodi pitch but then saw it was Williams which was a good consolation. However, if Kodi is being bumped from Monday I wonder if everyone is being bumped back a day and he actually will pitch on Tuesday? Either way I'll get to see someone I wanted to see.
  20. No. There will be some other team that will look to go bonkers and blow away their spending limits.
  21. My wife made me watch the world cup final today. I can definitely appreciate the athleticism that it takes to play soccer but, sorry, I just don't get it. Nothing I watched was interesting in any way. Also, I don't know who the announcers were but they were pretty dull and boring, which didn't help at all.
  22. Peralta hasn't really been all that great this year. Is it really that crazy to keep him in AAA until something happens with Lohse or Garza?
  23. Hey Guerrero, how hard is it to not notice the second basemen is playing behind the runner at first? That out is on you.
  24. No reason to pay Parra to play on a losing team. He needs to be traded this season. Someone will probably overpay for him this offseason though.
  25. Did a Brewer pitcher actually just throw at a batter? What is going on around here!?
