  1. This is somewhat off topic by still relevant I think. I feel the love affair with velocity is leading to more injuries and for some guys, especially high school and younger, improper mechanics. Teens with professional aspirations are being trained to be pitchers anymore, they're being trained to throw hard. Their whole goal is to reach 90 MPH. Yes, I understand that typically the harder you throw the more success you have. However I feel this quest for speed is taking kids right down the path to injury. Instead of learning how to change speeds and hit spots these kids are just learning how to throw hard. But what does this have to do with teams changing a player's mechanics? In any sport, if you try to do something harder/faster/quicker there's a good chance you're going to not do it the proper way. All these kids want to do is impress a radar gun and these scouts and teams don't seem to care too much about mechanics because they think they can just fix it when they get them in their organization. Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, no.
  2. After seeing the constant commercials for Other Space during Community I decided to give it a try. Honestly, the main reason I started watching it is because the girl from the AT&T commercials is in it and I think she's quite a hotty. I thought the first episode was pretty bad but the second was better and the other 6 episodes were pretty good. It's just goofy, fun humor. Trace Beaulieu from Mystery Science Theater 3000 voices a robot and has some of the best lines in the whole series.
  3. Finally got it all sorted out. What a freakin mess.
  4. I've often wondered about this to. Part of it is probably the "old school, macho, my way or the highway" mentality many coaches have. In Bumgarner's SI Sportman of the Year article it said that the Giants changed the way he pitched after he was drafted and the results were terrible so he told them he was going to do it his way and it worked out pretty well.
  5. http://reviewingthebrew.com/2015/06/11/interview-with-milwaukee-brewers-prospect-wei-chung-wang/ Here's an interview with Wang. Important things to take away from it are that he has been working on his curveball this year. Probably too much he feels as he's losing the feel for his other pitches. Also, advanced stats say he's been unlucky as he has a high BABIP (.357) with good ground ball and low line drive rates.
  6. When you look at his game logs he's given up 3 ER or less in 8 of his 12 starts. His second game in which he went 1.1 IP with 8 ER and 5 BB is making his numbers look worse than they should. I would agree overall the stats don't look too impressive but he's thrown some really good games and some really bad games. It's not like he's getting knocked around every time he pitches.
  7. I was just talking about something similar with some people the other day. I said that Prince was such a bad first basemen and would have been bad at any other position so they should have just got maximum value out of his bat and played him at SS or C. I was only partially serious.
  8. If the Twins get Gomez do they tell him to start hitting ground balls and bunting for hits again?
  9. I like that Counsell puts something different out there every game. The whole having a set spot in the order is just stupid. It doesn't matter what spot you hit in, the pitcher is still going to try and get you out.
  10. Niese and Gee both have to have more value that Ramirez based on age alone. If Ramirez gets either of those guys you have to do it. Package whichever one you get with Gomez or Krod to sweeten a deal and you've turned Ramirez into something that he alone couldn't get.
  11. Works fine when you do it every now and then but when you do it as much as the Brewers do it gives you a glut of OF and no one of quality anywhere else. Hart, Coulter, Braun, LaPorta, Lawrie to an extent were all just shoved somewhere on a corner because they could hit but you can't field a team of all DH's. And I read it all the time about players on the minors forum that so and so player is playing 2B/3B/SS right now but will probably be moved to the OF because they can't handle their current position. Many here are envisioning Lara to put up prime year Ryan Braun numbers but let's be honest, a low .800 OPS, 20ish HR's is probably best case scenario for him. At SS those are great numbers, but he apparently can't handle SS. At 3B those are still pretty good numbers. But now there's talk he can't handle 3B and will be moved to the OF. A corner OF with those numbers is adequate but nothing too exciting. It's Khris Davis, with probably better defense. Let's just let these kids fail at premium positions before we start shoving them in corner outfield spots.
  12. Not to mention he doesn't even have a position. Scouts say he is NOT a SS...period. Then a lot of scouts say 3B is wishful thinking too. If his bat is good enough, then they can shoehorn him in somewhere. That's been the Brewers MO for over a decade now. I'd like to see them develop a player that can play even passable infield defense instead of just a hitter that they shove in a corner OF spot.
  13. That would be really stupid for a guy in his first big league game to intentionally put runners on first and second with 1 out.
  14. Could netting have prevented Hector Gomez from flying face first into the stands in St. Louis? A wall that was built with sanity in mind instead whatever the hell they have in St. Louis would have prevented that from happening. Remember it took Lyle Overbay getting a nice gash on his face for them to remove the plexiglass they had there.
  15. I was wondering if the Brewers might take a shot at him when I saw he was demoted. Yes, he's been pretty terrible but I can't imagine it would take much to get him and there really are no options in the minors for a few years.
  16. I'd be against it. For me, it would ruin the experience of going to a game. After I heard about the Boston incident I knew there was probably going to be a rash of overreacting changes made because of it.
  17. Good heavens that 2 seamer from Jeffress is ridiculous. Has he been throwing this way all year?
  18. I would think if it works every time, figuring out the timing to have the least impact on games missed shouldn't be that hard. Once before spring training and then once around the all star break.
  19. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/128634684/removal-of-unique-tals-hill-excites-hitters Tal's hill will be removed from Minute Maid park this offseason. Based off of the quick renderings shown in the video it looks like all of the nooks and crannies will be removed from the outfield fence and replaced with seating.
  20. The leader of a professional sports team said that a player who has put up superior numbers can't do something because he doesn't have the "man muscles" to do it yet. Yes, that just happened.
  21. Not sure if it's true or not but on FS1 they said he is Vlad's nephew, not son.
  22. If Braun's not on the field because of his thumb, that reduces that chances of him aggravating his intercostal injury. So...bonus?
