  1. Favre leaving led to Aaron Rodgers playing. Packer fans have no reason to be mad at Brett Favre.
  2. I found a job that says I need to "apply in person" for. This is for a position and company that should at least provide an email for you to send a resume. But I digress. I've never done this before. Should I dress up like I'm going to an interview?
  3. If your Gomez and Lucroy trades happen the Brewers could potentially have a very good rotation. And I emphasize potentially because none of those guys have a big track record of Major League success. It would be a fun rotation to talk about as you've got 2 guys who could be #1's in Syndergaard and Walker. However, those trades would leave a rather anemic offense. Parra is a FA after this year and I don't see him coming back. Some team is going to give him starter money over 3 or 4 years and the Brewers can't/shouldn't afford that. Someone is going to have to replace Lucroy because Maldonado aint gonna cut it. You'd have near automatic outs in the 8 and 9 spot and possibly the 7 spot too depending on how Segura is playing. You still need a 3B. Maybe you move Segura there and bring up Arcia or Rivera but that could give you 4 automatic outs. Braun and Lind would be your only offensive threats. Davis and Scooter have shown flashes of success but I don't think you can. nor do you want to, count on them to be your 3rd and 4th best hitters. Also, who plays CF? You can't replace any part of Gomez's glove or bat with Schaefer or Wren.
  4. Can't he be hired as a player/pitching coach or something for Biloxi (No one wants to go to CO Springs) for life. I would be ok with that. We could link his blog and maybe he can do Link Reports as a side gig. He can throw the first inning of any game he feels like playing in. Ditch Rock. Replace him with Dillard.
  5. Got in trouble trying to spike fan interest by trading "unknown" prospects for "name" veterans, trading a long-term strategy for immediate gratification. What it took the Brewer management several years to accomplish, the Padres did in one offseason. I think we should wait more than half a season to determine is what Preller did was a disaster. I'm pretty sure Justin Upton is the only guy they acquired that is gone after this season so it's not like they gutted the farm system for only 1 season.
  6. Did you intentionally leave Harrison off your list? Yes and no. I mainly based my rankings off of 2015 stats. I checked my preseason list after I made this one and he was on there but I made that list based off of reading scouting reports. If I were to put him on this list he's probably be some in 10-15. Tools are nice but at some point you need to perform.
  7. Navarro was the first name I thought of when I read it but that's being denied. Pierzynski too. Not like teams denying it even means anything.
  8. I don't mind major league talent so long as we have significant control over the player. We'd still have Walker through 2020, which is fine. I'd like Walker too but I'm not sold on Montero being anything other than a AAAA 1B bat. This organization already has enough of those.
  9. Came here just to see if it was Lucroy. I'd take Walker and Montero but I can definitely see some posters here having a problem with only getting back major league ready talent. No way the Mariners want Garza though.
  10. Speaking as someone who has been a groundball pitcher my whole life I can tell you that some days those groundballs are hit at fielders and some days they're hit between them. My BAA has always been on the high side but I don't give up many homeruns or doubles.
  11. Ya. I didn't watch it but read that rules for times and things were shortened because they wanted to get it in before rain came.
  12. Darn. I was going to check before I posted that but I though the Twins just moved to Beloit. Can't believe that was 10 years ago!
  13. Beloit? He's getting traded to the Twins obviously.
  14. It was probably mentioned because it was of some human interest. No one cares if Joe Schmoe Smarty Pants from MIT is being considered for a job in the Brewers analytics department but if it's the owner's son then that's something a reporter is almost certainly going to put in the story.
  15. http://triblive.com/sports/pirates/8712443-74/huntington-pirates-trade#axzz3fieWnlDA I just happened to be looking at Cliff Lee's BRef page today and remembered he's been traded as a rental probably more than any other player. Let's take a look what he's been traded for. Philly sent Cleveland: Jason Knapp (was in A when traded, Reached A+ last year, is no where this year) 0 career WAR Carlos Carrasco (was in AAA when traded, now solid ML starter) 4.8 Jason Donald (was in AAA when traded, spent a few years in ML with Cleveland, may be out of baseball) 1.3 Lou Marson (was in AAA when traded, a few years in ML for Cleveland, now AA for Cin) 1.6 Seattle sent Philly: Tyson Gillies (spent year prior to trade in A+, has yet to reach bigs, now in AA for SD) 0 Phillippe Aumont (spent year prior to trade in AA, less than mediocre ML numbers, bouncing between AAA and Philly) -.7 JC Ramirez (spent year prior to trade in A+, a few cups of coffee with Philly and AZ, now in AAA for AZ) -.7 Texas sent Seattle: Matt Lawson (was in AA when traded, never reached bigs) 0 Blake Beavan (was in AA when traded, 4 years with Sea, just released from AZ AAA) 1.5 Josh Lueke (was in AA when traded, put up pretty bad numbers as reliever for Sea and TB) -1.1 Justin Smoak (was in ML when traded, 4.5 average-ish years in Sea, now seems to have figured it out in Tor) 1.5 The players who have been solid major league contributors (Carrasco and Smoak, maybe you could make an argument for Larson) were all at AAA when traded. Everyone else was AA or below and they turned into pretty much nothing. Teams want to hold on to and acquire those AAA/major league ready guys because they are more likely to turn out. At the time of all of these trades, Lee was one of the best pitchers in baseball and only one of the players whom he was traded for is actually currently helping the club that traded for him. I think this also speaks to how often the team that gets the prospects in a rental trade actually has it work out for them. Lee was traded for a total of 11 players who have averaged .74 WAR between them. Even in the year's he was traded mid-season, Lee never gave the team that just acquired him less than 1.1 WAR. Also, Lee's middle name is Phifer. I felt that was important to note.
  16. The article said "involved in." I agree hiring family isn't always the best move but it's not like he's the head guy or developed the department, from what I can tell. He could just as well be doing data entry or only on retainer so Mark can call him and ask him to explain some of this new fangled techno-babble to him.
  17. Exactly. They've done pretty well on the Major League level acquiring the right talent, aging expensive pitchers and pointless washed up veterans aside. What the organization needs now is a guy to get the farm system back on track and removing Montgomery from that role after less than a year seems like a bad idea.
  18. I thought they changed it a few years ago to use the DH in every game. Could be wrong though. I haven't watched the all star game in years.
  19. 1. Orlando Arcia, SS 2. Kodi Medeiros, LHP 3. Clint Coulter, OF 4. Gilbert Lara, SS 5. Trent Clark, OF 6. Michael Reed, OF 7. Victor Roache, OF 8. Tyler Wagner, RHP 9. Devin Williams, RHP 10. Jorge Ortega, RHP 11. Yadiel Rivera, SS 12. Taylor Jungmann, RHP 13. Tyler Cravy, RHP 14. Jorge Lopez, RHP 15. Marcos Diplan, RHP 16. Nick Ramirez, 1B 17. Tyrone Taylor, OF 18. Cy Sneed, RHP 19. David Goforth, RHP 20. Cory Knebel, RHP 21. Brandon Diaz, OF 22. Dustin DeMuth, 3B 23. Tucker Neuhaus, SS 24. Jake Gatewood, SS 25. Wei-Chung Wang, LHP
  20. There certainly seems to be a lot of teams that could use Parra, which should increase the return, but who else is out there for 3/4 Of'ers to keep the price down? Would a team give up more for Jay Bruce than Parra?
  21. Thanks a lot Buzz Killington.
  22. Segura's career OPS vs LHP (when having the platoon advantage): .670 It's actually lower than his overall career number and is still much lower than Scooter's career OPS even with Scooter's anemic AB's against LHP.
  23. Exactly. I was a staunch Scooter hater at the beginning but have come around somewhat. Sure, he can't hit lefties, but that's a better problem than can't hit righties. This year their numbers are pretty identical but career-wise, Scooter has 81 OPS points on Segura. Segura's "great" 2013 still falls short of Scooter's career numbers.
  24. Yuck. No thank you. That would seem like waste of Lucroy. Swihart, even if he turns into the great player many think he will, is only going to give you a few years at that level before being a catcher catches up with him.
