  1. No one who matters cares about competitive balance. The league doesn't. The owners don't and the players certainly don't.
  2. Pitchers report this week. I suppose something could come together soon and he could be in camp day 1 but don't pitchers who sign after spring training has started generally struggle or get hurt? He's already very inconsistent and not a guy who goes deep in games. Add in a potential late start and giving this guy $30+ million even for one season doesn't seem like such a great idea.
  3. I understand his reasoning but it's still incredibly selfish. I'd be curious to know how his coaches and teammates feel about it because it certainly doesn't make him very endearing to fans. To me this isn't any different than your star short stop saying he's not going to dive for a ground ball because he can't use diving stops as a statistic to get a bigger contract and he could get hurt doing it.
  4. Seems like a Rickey Henderson or Reggie Jackson. They didn't have trouble finding jobs.
  5. Can someone share these issues because I don't really remember any. I know the DBacks traded him because they didn't like his training techniques - a lot of which are now commonplace.
  6. This is by far the most effort put into improving offense in the Stearns/Arnold era. The only thing "transitional" about it is transitioning from a team built 99% on pitching and defense to realizing that your lineup can't be filled with black holes of suck.
  7. The vast majority of pro athletes are ego driven, alpha male, narcsist turds. I doubt he would cause more problems in a clubhouse than anyone else. As for any PR concerns, fans hate this team for trading Burnes and "stealing" tax payer money. Any PR trouble because of Bauer may come as a relief.
  8. How many teams are there that regularly resign their own players young players? The Braves worked some magic to get a bunch of their guys signed and that's about it. The Angels signed Trout long term and the Yankees did judge but almost all players hit free agency and wind up going elsewhere. All the boo-hooing about how it sucks to be a Brewer fan because we never hold on to our players totally ignores that nothing the Brewers are doing is out of line with the vast, vast majority of the rest of the league.
  9. Bill will have a job for 2025. Some owner will freak out and hire him. Since both can't win the Super Bowl, one of Dallas or Philly would be a good bet. I wouldn't put it past Mark Davis to fire Pierce and hire Belichek if the Raiders can't sniff .500. Both New York city teams are teetering on the brink of a total restart and Buffalo has rumblings of needing a new coaching staff. Never underestimate an NFL owner's desire to want a retread for a "fresh" start.
  10. The Lions gave up 27 unanswered points the last 2 quarters. I'm pretty sure that is the key to their loss.
  11. I don't watch WWE at all but since I have Peacock I'll check out the Rumble just to see who shows up. The fact that Andrade and McAfee were the only surprise entrants was pretty disappointing.
  12. Like he was really going to say "whoever gave me the most money."
  13. Looks like Vince has finally been put out to pasture with the latest allegations and he took Lesnar with him. Seems like a lot of those around Vince are also being implicated for either taking part or at least turning a blind eye. You've got to wonder what happens with Triple H. There's no way he could be totally in the dark to everything that was going on.
  14. Makes no sense for the Royals to trade for him. They're going nowhere with him on the team in 2024 and they're not extending him.
  15. WWE is getting $5 billion (with a B) out of this. I doubt they care how many people actually watch the show.
  16. This franchise loves celebrating mediocrity doesn't it.
  17. I alway thought Mauer was borderline at best. His slash line is surprisingly good for a such a lack of power. But even if you consider him just a catcher his numbers don't look all that great. He hit 28 HR's once and his next highest season is 13. I'm guessing his career total of 143 has to be among the least for any non-pitcher in the Hall of Fame. Ozzie Smith is the only person who comes to mind who certainly has less. I think the fact that he played his whole career with 1 team swayed a lot of voters as that definitely gives players more mystique since it's so rare these days.
  18. Seems like the kind of player Craig would find a way to give 500 PA's to despite a total lack of ability to hit the ball. Let's see what Pat does with him. Nothing hopefully.
  19. Have mods lost the ability or will to ban? I suggested it once before and my post was deleted. This thread just proves it really needs to happen.
  20. It's almost like money that's spent on terrible players then can't be spent on players that are better or something. It's not a hard concept to understand.
  21. The real question is will the team finally give up Gantner's hold on the number 17 and let Hoskins have it?
  22. Signing a veteran hitter very much on the downside of his career to pretty much be a starter is such a Stearns/Arnold move. Please don't.
  23. Watching playoff games and the last few weeks of the regular season I seem to be seeing a lot more defensive players getting hurt making a tackle than I ever remember seeing before. Anyone else notice this or am I just seeing things? Are all the rules about how and where to tackle ballcarriers putting defensive players bodies in weird positions where they are now the ones getting hurt?
  24. He's a 28 year old non-prospect. Best case for him in MLB is bouncing back and forth between AAA and the bigs and riding the DFA train. Might as well take the stability and paycheck overseas if he can get it.
  25. I am in no way an expert on this so please tell me if any of this is wrong... As it stands now, the vast majority of cable/satellite subscribers don't watch or care about sports and they are subsidizing the massive media contracts that have been given out for years. To move to any sort of system where only the people who want to watch sports are paying for the service is going to massively reduce the revenue generated from subscribers. Which means prices are going to go up for subscribers and the teams and leagues are going to be making a whole lot less money than previously which will certainly cause the prices of tickets, merchandise, concessions, etc. to also go up. Like I said, I'm no expert but this makes sense to me and I don't think it's good for MLB short or long term. It's already an expensive sport for youth to participate in and now it's going to become more expensive just to be a fan of. I feel over the past decade or so all forms of entertainment/hobbies/interests has become niche and therefore expensive, there are very few things that have widespread appeal anymore. The NFL I suppose but I feel most of their growth has been by those who are only interested in it for gambling and really couldn't care less about the players, teams, or game results outside of what it means to their bets.
