  1. If Stearns can get some decent hitters for the lineup, whoever they hire as the next hitting coach will look like a genius move.
  2. Once again, ya...no. It's not Craig's fault Stearns continually fails to put together anything resembling a competent major league offense. A new manager and/or hitting coach isn't going to change that.
  3. Looks like the Appleton Baseball Club, Inc got $559,000 in federal PPP "loan" (which really meant you usually didn't have to pay back). They have 66 home games a season. If they filled the stadium for every home game 3.894 million gross. While that sounds like a lot they never sell out all 66 games. Given the overhead of running a stadium that leaves very little meat on the bone for the ownership group. My wife and I went to an April Trats game a few years ago. It was a doubleheader because the day before was snowed out. I counted 15 people in the stands when we were there. Attendance is nice June-August but they have to be taking a major loss in April and May.
  4. There's so many confusing statements from the Cardinals makes you think it's probably not baseball-related.
  5. I believe that Cardinal fans have been pining for the Clapp since the Matheny days. Serious statement. Pun intended.
  6. Didn't Josh say exactly that before spring training? I seem to remember him saying something about how he discussed it with his agent and then told the Brewers he "wasn't comfortable" throwing multiple innings. Obviously he didn't want to burn himself quickly out like so many other multi-inning guys have. It's understandable from the player's perspective to try to prolong his career and maximize his earnings but as a fan it's tough to get behind.
  7. Maybe he's got some emails that just came to light. Or some sort of harassment allegations.
  8. I believe Schildt replaced Matheny midseason and either took them to the postseason or almost did and then he was officially hired. They may have felt at the time that they had to hire him because the team turned around even though they really didn't want to. They had an improbable 17 game win streak that got them a wild card this year otherwise they were pretty much dead all year.
  9. Schildt had a face that was very punchable. He seemed to fit in well with the long line of turd Cards managers with TLR and Matheny.
  10. Don't worry, pretty soon you'll be getting threatening letters saying you need to take care of this ASAP. I had to deal with the IRS because of an issue with my former employer a few years ago and it took 18 months to be resolved.
  11. Yeah it’s obviously not his fault the offense stunk but at this point it’s time to move on and get a new voice in here. Who the heck knows if it helps but you might as well try something different. Not CC fault either, but I would be fine if they moved on with a new manager. That's pro sports, sometimes you just need to shake things up. Ya...no.
  12. Velocity is the problem. Moving the mound back is pretty much the only thing that fixes that. I doubt 1 foot will make much of a difference. Make it 2 or more and then you may have something.
  13. The offense cratered. The lack of any particular pitcher made no difference.
  14. What? They can be the same thing if you throw gobs of money at the right guys. Trade Hader. As much as no one wants to, one of Burnes or Woodruff will need to be traded at some point too. Neither of those involve giving bloated contracts to aging free agents.
  15. That was actually the first thing I thought of when I heard that Eminem was performing. Early 2000's Eminem would have been cancelled quickly if he was around today.
  16. Williams absence was a total nonfactor in the series.
  17. I don't know why people always equate "fix the offense" to "throw gobs of money at free agents". They are not the same thing.
  18. I don't believe for a second what Burnes said. Counsell made a decision that he believed in and Corbin had to give an answer that wouldn't rock the boat or throw his manager under the bus. I'm not saying Burnes should have started or that Counsell made the wrong call but I don't think there was any truth in what Corbin said.
  19. Stearns has had a lot more luck in finding bullpen arms than bats. Trade Hader for a hitter(s). The bullpen will be fine. It was only 4 games but not having Williams didn't make a lick of difference in the playoffs because the offense sucked so hard.
  20. Other than putting any blame on Counsell I agree with this. The team started like crap, went crazy hot in the middle of the season, and finished just as crappy as they started. And you can tie that directly to the offense. The pitching was solid throughout the year but the wins only came when the offense did something. The only time this team felt special was that couple weeks when they were just rolling through everyone and putting up runs in bunches. Outside of that it was the same great pitching/crap offense of the last 4 or 5 years. I'd hope Stearns addresses that somehow but history has shown he probably won't. I watched the first 2 innings of game 1 and that was it. Mainly because I've grown tired of 3TO baseball and find it boring and uninteresting but also because I just didn't care about the DS. We've been there done that enough. I doubt I would have started watching until they had a chance to clinch the CS.
  21. [sarcasm]Trade him to San Diego?[/sarcasm]
  22. This is such a stupid game we play. It's 99% luck. This week I lucked in to picking up Mattison 10 minutes before kickoff for my flex. Combine his score with Kamara and James Robinson and I was on the way to an easy win as long as the rest of my team was at least average. My opponent had Beckham who tanked and Golladay who put up a big 0. So then for me Thielen goes bust. McLaurin and Waller have substandard games and Daniel Jones gets concussed before halftime after sucking. Up by 29 going into Monday night I felt pretty confident. As long as Lamar doesn't go bonkers I got the win. He had 7 points at halftime. Was at 14 going into the 4th quarter. And we all know how the rest turned out. I lost by 14. Most crushing fantasy loss I've ever had.
  23. There's no way you can convince me the Red Sox are a better team than the Rays. A 5 game series should have no part in determining who your supposedly best team is.
  24. Wasn't there like human trafficking and other federal charges possible from that investigation? And all that comes out is a guy who wasn't even employed by the organization then or now is forced to resign because of words he used in emails.
  25. I find it hilarious that Jake from State Farm, somehow, mysteriously turned into a black guy... Couldn't they have given the replacement a different name since the replacement is obviously an entirely different person? I believe the first commercial with the new guy established that he is a different person just with the same name. Could be wrong though.
