  1. He gets to play baseball for more money than most of us on here make. There is zero pressure on him to succeed. He gets to be looked up to by a bunch of his kid team mates. Sounds kind of fun actually. He has to really love playing and not have an ego to do it.
  2. The last thing this teams needs is another no glove/all bat player. Especially one that has shown he's not much of a hitter.
  3. He was just coming off knee surgery last year wasn't he? It's tough to get in shape when you can't do more than walk.
  4. Yes. It's possible. I can't remember who it was but the Brewers did it a few years ago.
  5. Tweet: Nats, Jackson agree to terms Edwin Jackson to the Nationals on a one-year deal. The NL East became the AL East in one offseason. (fixed broken link --1992)
  6. Just because he doesn't have an invite now doesn't mean he won't get one later. I'm sure he'll be in camp before minor leaguers report and get in some games and then get an invite because of the veteraness he shows.
  7. How did Corey not get a Spring Training invite from any club? I will be very shocked if Corey doesn't wind up with the big club in Spring Training and is one of the guys Ron and Doug consider for a 25-man roster spot, Braun suspension or not. We've seen how this will play out before Edmonds, Kapler, Reed, Kotsay, Duffy...
  8. Deep down I feel there will be a "Bench Gamel!" thread by the All-Star break. I hope that is not the case, but that's what I feel.
  9. I would generally agree with you except the Rays have done pretty well competing against both the Yankees and Red Sox and to a lesser extent the Blue Jays. Those three teams are better than any team outside of Detroit in the AL Central.
  10. No thanks. Park inflated hitter, terrible defense and a worse contract. I don't see anyway that would have happened without Philly eating a lot of the contract.
  11. If one of the current champions wins he is guaranteed two rematches if he loses the belt before Wrestlemania or he could challege for the other title. There are lots of interesting ways to go if a current champ wins. What better way to stick it to Ace than winning despite Johnny's best efforts to cheat him and then getting a shot at the other world title.
  12. i always assumed that a current champ would win, which is why they highlighted everyone is eligible. That's what I'm thinking too.
  13. I just don't see the upgrade being worth the money.
  14. Is Braun actually going to take all the walks teams are going to try and give him this year? I think this will be the biggest key to the offense this year.
  15. This has been discussed quite a bit in a lot of different threads.
  16. I agree over the whole season it is a myth, but just last year how many times was Prince intentionally walked in a situation to put the team ahead or tie only to have Casey come up and make outs? At the end of the year all the free passes make the OPS look good but when it comes to winning a game I don't think anyone would rather have Prince on first than at the plate.
  17. Seems like a Doug Melvin dream team in 2013 with 3 DH's. At least they have a DH spot.
  18. You guys are giving WWE creative way too much credit to think that they should do things that make sense. They (or Vince) has the attention span of a 2 year old.
  19. Whatever. Until they put a good team in their uniforms no one will care what it says on the front.
  20. I agree but some people seem to think that with the improved defense Gamel will be adequate in replacing Prince. I don't think he will even come close.
  21. I agree with everything you wrote. It's no disrespect to Wolf to say it's far more feasible that say a Peralta or Estrada could match his numbers than Gamel could match Fielders and as good as K-Rod was in a Brewer uniform his overall numbers, 2.64 ERA, 1.298 WHIP get matched by young power arms that seemingly come out of nowhere every season. I know fans don't like to face it, but Fielder is on a HOF career track. I don't think Gamel is. That being said, even if Fielder were interested in a one year deal, Melvin doesn't seem inclined to want to bother having to move guys. You make a very good point about Fielder and Gamel. The defensive upgrade will be good but I don't think it will be near enough to make up for the offensive decline. Fielding is an elite hitter and Game is still, at best, a promising prospect whose ceiling isn't even close to Fielder. Wolf has been good but he's going to decline sometime, very possibly this year, and could much more easily be replaced than Prince. And while K-Rods don't grow on trees, they come around pretty often and randomly and are much, much cheaper.
  22. I'm assuming that wouldn't be too difficult since he signed the contract with the the signature of a different name. Besides being fraud, there could also be someone originally named Fausto Carmona, making it identity theft. He should be more worried about avoiding jail or deportation than whether his contract will hold up. I don't think he will get into any trouble. Wandy Rodriguez came out fine and it looks like the former Leo Nunez won't have any issues either.
  23. Odd. I thought it was the best episode in a long time. I haven't laughed as loud or long as I did when Dwight drowned in a long time. I'm not sure why, it really wasn't all that funny but I couldn't stop laughing.
  24. Honestly the Reds worry me more than the Cardinals do. You talk about how our lineup is going to be without Prince, I think Pujols had an even bigger effect on St.Louis. Wainwright won't be the same right away when he comes back and Carp will be a little bit older. After that in their rotation I see just a bunch of average starters. The reds are the team that really scare me this year. Solid Rotation, Solid lineup and solid bullpen. Isn't that what we say about the Cardinals every year? I don't count them out until the math does and right now the odds of St. Louis winning the division is the same as Milwaukee.
