  1. Nobody thinks it's fake. Well, sure, there's a handful of people that believe anything. What a large percentage of people DO believe is the concern isn't worth changing your entire life for a year, or maybe two. Not saying we're right or wrong, that's just where we're coming from. Masks or no nasks, this virus will take it's course. It's why certain spots pio up, ir dies dow, pops up somewhere else. It's what viruses do. It can certainly be argued that that large percentage of people selfishly not willing to change their lifestyles is also strongly contributing to the explosion of cases in Wisconsin, which is only going to prolong the mandates. Not really. Look at Europe and all those countries that "did the right thing" and their citizens "followed the rules". As soon as restrictions were relaxed, cases went shooting right back up. The only thing that's going to end this is a vaccine. Masks and social distancing is just a bandaid on a severed limb.
  2. I understand the point you are trying to make, but does it still hold true? Back in the 80's and 90's with 13-team conferences, the fifth-place team had a huge advantage. I don't have a link pointing to the formula used then. Today, does that advantage still hold? Yes, you play the teams in your conference that finished the same in their division as you did in yours the year before. So if you won your division you play the other division winners from your conference. If you finished second in your division, you play the other second place finishers and so on.
  3. Re: Wisconsin surge. So many people blaming bars, which I'm sure are causing a lot of spread, but bars have been packed tight since the minute the stay at home was rescinded in May. Mask usage is almost certainly up since it being required. Positives started going up before colleges and schools started. People always want to find someone or something to blame but sometimes something just is what it is.
  4. I would guess that anything related to this comes from the front office through the hitting coach as they have all the stats and figures on opposing pitchers.
  5. Hire whoever was the coach in the early 2000's till about 2012. That should solve all the woahhs.
  6. Who was saying that? The NFC West is possibly the most competitive division in the NFL. Rams, 49'ers, Seahawks are all set up to be highly competitive for years. And Kyler certainly makes the Cardinals looks like they're a competent defense away from making it a 4 way race.
  7. Haven't we yet accepted the fact that the Brewers don't believe in traditional starting pitchers outside of a select few? Both Freddy and Suter were used pretty much the same way this year where they didn't start games but came in early and threw 2 or 3 innings. I wouldn't consider that a reliever or a starter, just an "out-getter" as Craig says.
  8. But how would Chris Carpenter explain this to his son?
  9. I believe the NFL said before the year they would make up games the week after week 17 and push the start of the playoffs back if needed. One week wouldn't effect the Super Bowl. Any more would certainly cause problems.
  10. The second part could also be attributed to the 3TO mantra. If these guys are swinging for the fences with RISP, rather than trying to get a base hit, it feeds into the narrative that maybe they should be trying a different brand of baseball. That's totally it. The vast majority of hitters never change their approach. No matter the situation or count they swing from their shoes and hope they hit it.
  11. Exactly this. Why give up an out to move a guy over when it's likely the next two batters aren't going to put it in play anyway.
  12. "So you'd rather lose your way than win the old way?" Alex Rodriguez when talking about bunting during one of the games. I'm only posting it because it's stupid quote and I feel it fits in with the general direction of the thread.
  13. I won't believe anything until highheat posts it.
  14. Seems like all these streaming services are going the way of cable companies with price increases and limited selection.
  15. No managers fired the day after the season ended. That has to be a first, right? I guess Roenicke but he technically wasn't fired and it happened on Sunday. Is there even anyone on the hot seat right now?
  16. Watched the last few minutes of OT in the Bengals/Eagles game. Never seen a game where both teams made no effort to try and win the game. Eagles line up for a 59 yard FG to win it with like 30 seconds left and false start or something. They could have gone for the 64 yard FG to win or even ran a play since it was only 4th and 7. Neither the 59 yarder, 64 yarder, or going for it were great options. Not converting any of those would have given Cincy the ball at midfield with about 20 seconds and no timeouts. Not a great situation for them either. So the Eagles punt. Cincy gets the ball and runs it up the middle and lets the clock run out. Totally pointless all around.
  17. Want to make things really exciting? After the 162 game season ends, randomly seed all 30 teams and have them play a March Madness style tournament to determine the league champion. Whoever wins it will mean nothing but at least it will be exciting and make lots of money.
  18. Not necessarily strike zone related but if this season of no crowds and hot mics has taught us anything it's the umpires instigate as much if not more confrontations than the players and coaches. That needs to be addressed as much as inconsistent strike zones.
  19. As soon as umpires can do that, the calls for an automated strike zone will stop.
  20. I'm a conservative, and for me, I have decided that mask wearing is a good thing. (it sucks to wear them, but it's for the greater good) I know other conservatives that are like me, and have done the right thing, so for me, it isn't political at all. I get what you and others are saying though, the fact that COVID is political just tells you where we are as a society, and it ain't good. There is a strong correlation with one's politics but it's all the college kids getting it now. More than likely young liberal, Democrat leaning who should be "taking this seriously" but clearly aren't.
  21. Doesn't that describe 95% of MLB? I can't believe we're even having this discussion. Yes, he's struggling right now. He also was a high draft pick, a highly ranked prospect, and demolished college and minor league pitching. Sure, he could be a total bust but he hasn't even played the equivalent of a full 162 game season in his career yet. You can’t believe people would be concerned with him after how terrible he has been? Really? And considering he looks like a JV high school second basemen at times, if he’s not truly the thunderous bat he was in the minors, he becomes a liability to this team in a hurry. Not that people are concerned but that so many here have pretty much written him off as a failure already. Or be replaced by one of our cadre 4A nothingburger infielders. He's had one year where he OPS'd over .900 and another in the mid .700's. Once again, not even adding up to a full 162 game season. I don't know how you can make any sort of judgement off of that. I can see the comparisons to Weeks. The thing about Rickie was that he would watch two fastballs over the plate and be down 0-2 and then wave at a slider way off the plate. Hiura seems more aggressive. He just isn't making contact. I guess I would personally prefer Keston's "problem" over Weeks.

  23. I read an article last week that said it's not bars and parties but the fact that the 20-30ish group of people don't have the luxury of working from home that much of the older group of people do. I can see there being truth for both situations. This is the truth but you can't pit one group of people against another using this line of thinking so it will never be mainstream. Either it's a complete hoax or you'll die if you leave your house and kill grandma too.
  24. Yup. There was an article in our newspaper recently that looked at pandemics in 1900's. Spanish flu, Polio, SARS in the 70's, and something else. In all of them, after about a year the general public returned to life as normal despite the continuing threat of the disease. Governments can make all the rules and regulations they want but unless they are going to line the streets with armed guards to enforce them people are still going to exercise their free will.
