  1. All these places that have had supposedly "beaten" the virus have had it come back. And in some cases worse than before. The virus is going to do what it wants until we can effectively treat it. We can't mask and socially distance it away.
  2. I guess it comes down why the playoffs exists in the first place? Is it to crown the best team in a given year or to put on games with more "meaning" and therefore charge more for tickets and advertisers and make more money? I think we all know the answer for the league and owners is the latter. I guess the players would fall more in the former category but probably ultimately don't care all that much.
  3. They are some pitching coaches, whether deserved or not, that get a reputation for being difference makers. Leo Mazzone, Don Cooper, Dave Duncan, Ray Searge come to mind. However, I can't really think of any notable hitting coaches. Charlie Manuel, maybe. But I believe his reputation for being a "hitting whisperer" came from his time as a manager.
  4. Guy's who've been ridden hard for a decade fall pretty quickly. His last two years in SF, while still really good, were not up to the standards of the rest of his career. I don't think he's done being a useful pitcher but he's probably a mid rotation guy with some occasional flashes of dominance from here on out.
  5. All stupid garbage. Doesn't matter since they'll change the name in five years anyway. And look for another paint by numbers logo from Brandios I'm sure that will be praised for being cute and quirky.
  6. More teams sure, whatever, but the #1 should not play the #8 in a 3 game series. Over 3 games any team can beat any other team twice. I really hope a #1 seed loses this year because the outrage may cause this to change. What they should do is go to 7 teams from each league. The 3 division winners and the next 3 best records regardless of division. Then one game playoffs between 4/7 and 5/6 and then the winners play to advance to the DS against the #1 seed.
  7. Other than Ed Sedar and Marcus Hanel the entire coaching staff has been a revolving door for a looonnggggg time. I don't have an answer but clearly neither does whoever is in charge of hiring coaches.
  8. Schilt and Craig were ejected after all that. Schilt I can understand but unless Craig was saying some mean things to Yadi I don't know why he would have been ejected.
  9. I bet HighHeat got a nice settlement out of court.

  12. I don't think there's much out there for better options but Jace is the standard crappy, utility player that Counsell falls in love with. The problem is that they have two of them right now.

  15. Exactly what I've been thinking from the handful of his AB's I've seen this year. His bottom half is bailing out which is really weird for any batter unless they're facing a same handed sidearmer.

  18. On the one hand, football coaches are dinosaurs reluctant to change. On the other hand, look at the evolution of offensive and defensive schemes over the last decade or two and the introduction of "hybrid" players that can play multiple positions. They're open to change about some things.
  19. I'm not going to say that this definitively proves corona was here in December but there have certainly been enough studies that have found some evidence that it probably left China well before what has generally been accepted. The article also mentions that they found traces of coronavirus in sewage in Italy from December and retested a nasal swab of a man in Paris from December 27 that also had coronavirus. Really at this point, all of this information is purely trivial. Personally, I hope it ends all the "why didn't we do anything sooner" complaining because by the time anyone even knew about this thing it was too late. The world is so interconnected that it certainly spread around the globe within a week or so of patient zero and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it.
  20. Generally speaking, in the NFL, all big dollar contracts are bad. When you have 50 some other players to pay it doesn't make sense to devote 10-15% of your cap space to one player unless it's an elite QB.

  22. So it appears Rizzo was thrown out for yelling from the 3rd level and because he had been yelling the whole series. Also, not by West, but another umpire. West, however, did stop the game so he could go into the dugout to call security to have Rizzo removed. While not as ridiculous as originally speculated, still incredibly ridiculous and an embarrassment to MLB and their umpires.

  24. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hollywood-charges-forward-production-plans-virus-surge-1303906 Pretty sure production has started in most places. You know, as soon as people start realizing they'll be losing money all the talk about "stay home, stay safe" and whatever goes right out the window.
