  1. I'm pretty sure it wasn't this decade but Brady Clark's back to the infield dive in Colorado has always been one of my favorites.
  2. Sorry, I don't see any way an automated strikezone will lead to fewer umpires on the field. Each position has specific responsibilities and taking balls and strikes away from the homeplate umpire is not going to have any affect on the rest of them.
  3. For now they need to be behind the plate. But this is likely the first step towards reducing the overall number of umps needed on a baseball field. I am not surprised they want to slow it down. I'm all for them making the change though, I just get why the umps are against it. You are always going to need an umpire behind the plate. Quick plays there are rare but happen. A guy tries to steal home on a pitch are you expecting the 3b umpire to sprint down to make the call? Bunts in front of the plate, batters fouling balls off their feet, catchers interference, etc. Not to mention on some balls hit to the outfield one of the field umpires will run out to see if it's catch or a homerun. Take the home plate ump away and you leave two guys on the infield. There will always be a need for a home plate ump.
  4. I just can't understand why the umpires have been so against this. No one is losing jobs. You still need an umpire behind the plate to relay the calls and call plays at that plate not to mention you still need the other 3 guys on the field. You take the thing that they are most criticized for out of their hands and with it almost all of the chirping and jawing from players, coaches, and fans that still exists. Just seems like wins all around unless their collective ego is so huge they can't deal with it.
  5. So far Stearns has done the same thing he's done every offseason apart from the year he signed Cain and traded for Yelich. I don't know why people keep trying to read so much into it.
  6. He has spinal stenosis that caused him to miss more than half of last season. I can't see this guy being healthy for any significant period of time the rest of his career.
  7. No chance. Somehow that's become the narrative around here. CC likes to play a scrappy AAAA a lot. Not sure where that came from, but there's no evidence of this. 2019 - Spangenberg 2018 - Saladino, Sogard, Brad Miller 2017 - Sogard (who was absolutely terrible after his first week or so), Nick Franklin 2016 - Nieuwenhuis 2015 - Elian Herrera Of course, there's his general love affair with Hernan Perez.
  8. Outside of a few teams that have an elite player, 1B is kind of becoming a second-thought, revolving door, rest day position around the league. This isn't really just a Brewer thing.
  9. Minor league signing so whatever. However, this team always needs a (s)crappy player around to give AB's to. Spangenberger went to Japan so maybe Jace is the guy for 2020.
  10. Because pitching changes take time and that's bad. Less pitchers, less changes, more excitement!
  11. Because they offered the most money obviously. I don't believe for one minute that the old Bum went into the off-season pining to play in Arizona.
  12. Are there any rules that says MLB teams have to have MiLB affiliates or a certain number of them? I agree with the overall premise that there's probably a lot of wasted resources with the current set up, but why not just let MLB clubs decide to ditch minor league teams as they please instead of making this an MLB vs MiLB situation.
  13. Some batters go up looking to swing the bat and get a hit. Others will take whatever the pitcher gives them, be that a swinging at a hittable pitch or taking four balls. I wouldn't say it's a skill so much as a mentality and probably something that is almost impossible for a player to make any significant change in as it's been engrained in them their whole life. Arcia is clearly a guy who's only interested in swinging the bat. Swings at the first pitch a lot and swings at a lot of crappy pitches with less than 2 strikes. Yelich is a great hitter but he has a real great approach too. If a pitcher groves a first pitch fastball, he's probably swinging. But if a pitcher nibbles, he'll take his walk.
  14. I'm probably one of only about 6 people in the world that is bothered by this but I can't stand when an ampersand is used when listing more than two things. For example, if I saw something that said, "Autograph signing today with Ryan Braun & Christian Yelich!" that wouldn't bother me. If it said, "Autograph signing today with Ryan Braun, Christian Yelich, and Lorenzo Cain!" that wouldn't bother me either. But if it said, "Autograph signing today with Ryan Braun, Christian Yelich & Lorenzo Cain!" that's like visual nails on a chalkboard to me. Even with an oxford comma after Yelich it still looks horrible. Drives me crazy. And don't even get me started if the sentence is broken into two lines and the ampersand starts the bottom line like, "Autograph signing today with Ryan Braun, Christian Yelich & Lorenzo Cain!"
  15. This final season of Modern Family has been borderline terrible. The characters have become boring stereotypes and there are zero interesting storylines. Manny and Alex are probably the worst characters on television right now. Both have been playing the same insufferable schmucks for years and killing one or both off would be more interesting than whatever they're trying to do with them now. Hailey was one of the few characters that was actually interesting and going somewhere and now she's stuck playing the "being a mom is hard" role every episode. Mitch and Cam have the same fight and drama every week. Such lazy writing everywhere. I'll watch it till the end but I hope they put some effort in to send it off.
  16. I haven't heard the word collusion brought up recently.
  17. This is them spending their money wisely. They can throw this kind of money at a guy and hope he's more 2018 than 2019 and if he fails it costs them relatively little. The Brewers can't risk spending $10M on a guy and hope he performs. And this is really where the financial disparity of baseball sucks. Not that the small market teams can't sign the big time free agents but that they can't take an expensive gamble on a guy like Treinen.
  18. Exactly. I've only been skimming threads around here the last week or so due to be being and the totally irrationality of most posters but I've wanted to post that exact comment in just about every thread. I can guarantee the majority of people that are screaming for the Brewers to throw gobs of money at a free agent are the same people complaining that Ryan Braun is an overpaid bum.
  19. Maybe 2015 was his "Arcia Year" (adjective - when a player has a year that is inconsistent with his previous and past performance that leads GMs to give said player numerous chances to reclaim their Arcia Year performance, but ultimately fail. sometimes confused with "career year", however, "career year" implies that the player had a successful career, "Arcia year" does not.) I like this.
  20. Looks fine enough to me. But they should have stuck with trends and done a re-imagining of one of their old hat logos. http://content.sportslogos.net/logos/53/77/full/v6ojr8g14jtqhezwh5ozgagr1.png
  21. I can't believe other teams are looking at anything more than a minor league deal for him. He didn't play for almost a full two years and didn't look all that great when he came back. It's all going to be about opportunity for him. Which team is going to have the clearest path to the majors.
  22. A trade for Arenado is going to require Hiura along with others. Swapping Arenado for Huira alone is a lateral move at best. Throw in the other prospects and the money and it just doesn't make any sense.
  23. Not sure why everyone keeps thinking this extra roster spot is going to lead to massive changes in roster construction. I just don't see it happening.
  24. The term "bubbler" came from the Kohler company hence why it is a regional thing. For me growing up everyone called it a bubbler and it was quite a shock to find out there are people that don't call it a bubbler.
  25. Because unlike some fans, the Brewers tend to make intelligent decisions when it comes to player movement. You don’t give up on a 25-year-old with untapped potential. Not yet. No matter how many fans hate him. But where is this "untapped potential"? Is it based off of the one year in the minors when he was an above average hitter? As some point you just have to say after 4 years in the bigs and over 1500 PA's he is what he is. Glove is fine and the bat is crap. As long as he's super cheap I guess he's good enough to keep around.
