  1. I just can't see Stearns paying $7.8M for a guy to be a platoon player. If anything, try and swing a deal for Stripling alone, but Peterson makes no sense given budget constraints. A lefty hitter in a strict platoon is not a part time player. They're probably starting at least 2 out of 3 games, if not 3 out of 4.
  2. Doesn't Gamel has an option left? It doesn't seem like having both him and Pederson on the bench makes sense as they'd essentially be the same player, except Joc has shown he could be a very useful hitter. I'd like to get Ross and Joc though. Figure out what to do with Gamel after that.
  3. And what exactly does "stripping the title" do? The Astros take down a banner, that's it. It accomplishes nothing.
  4. Altuve was a great hitter before all this stuff. OPS around .850 from 14-16. Bregman's worst full MLB season was actually 2017, the year this all happened. It's not like their "cheating" years were outliers from the rest of their career.
  5. I remember he hit a pinch hit homer right out of county stadium. That is my only memory of him.
  6. I don't think there's anything nefarious going on here. Both the Dodgers and Red Sox front office came from Tampa nothing "big market" about that. However, this deal really makes no sense for the Twins unless they feel Graterol is way over valued by everyone else or made of glass that just hasn't cracked yet.
  7. Am I the only one who doesn't understand what the Twins are doing here? Seems like a dumb move on their part.
  8. I've got to say the only thing I found interesting about the game was all the random shifting and fake sweeps, end arounds, etc. that the Chiefs did. Charlie Day's journey to clean his shirt was the only interesting commercial. Half time show was pretty blah. Overall one of the most boring Super Bowl nights I can remember.
  9. Well, the guy they just hired used worked for them under Sashi Brown.
  10. I think his overuse of pitchers is overblown but what will be interesting is how much he implements the data the front office has. Or if they even have it anymore since Crane cleared house. You'll probably be seeing lots of stone age baseball with no shifts and lots of bunting.
  11. That's kinda the point. Every thread lately has devolved into this argument ... heck, even the thread discussing the minor league deal for Shelby Miller. I thought that by creating a seperate thread to discuss a topic that is obviously on a lot of posters' minds, it might keep some of the other threads more on point. I guess, except it will just devolve into "Mark is cheap!!!!" and "Look what Stearns has done the last two years. Trust him." like every other thread.
  12. Isn't this thread just every single other thread consolidated into one?
  13. I can't imagine the profit from the clubhouse store results in any measurable impact to the franchise's bottom line. As for the Chinese knockoffs, personally, I don't care where people buy stuff from but just remember that stuff is illegally made. You're not going to get in trouble for buying it or having it but they are illegal goods since they're unlicensed. Also since it's coming from China, it's almost certainly produced under less than ethical or moral conditions.
  14. I don't know this for a fact but I would guess that Nike and whatever MLB's merchandise division is have the most say when and where stuff is sold.
  15. Signing Castellanos and then trading Senzel, especially if it's for someone with only a year or two of control, is just flat out stupid for Cincy. But more power to them I guess.
  16. Not sure how much of a difference it made but there were lots of writers (not sure if they were HOF voters or not) making a case for Walker the last year or so.
  17. The Cardinals look worse on paper which means you can pencil them in for at least 100 wins.
  18. I've seen lots of calls for Astros batters to be thrown at this season. Really interested to see what the league does if fishy things start to happen.
  19. I didn't know Miller Park was named after Miller beer until about year 3 of the stadium. It just sounded like it was named after some guy whose last name was Miller. I was also in grade school at the time. I didn't know Great American Ballpark was named after a bank or whatever it is for a few years either, I thought it was just super patriotic. Neither of those names sound totally corporate. Same with American Family Field at least.
  20. Kent is probably not getting many votes because he's a turd person. And factor in being a teammate of Barry Bonds so OMG he did PED's!!!
  21. Sorry, he's as good as gone. Enjoy him while you can. Stearns aint paying top dollar for the backend of anyone's career.
  22. I don't understand the whole steroid guys have to wait thing. Either you think they're Hall of Famers or they're not. What does waiting accomplish other than letting in players who don't deserve it in the meantime?
  23. Thing about the steroid guys is most of them are disliked by the media for personal reasons. Steroids is just a convenient excuse for not voting for those guys and instead voting for their buddies and further watering down the Hall of Fame.
  24. It bothers me that this is shaping up to be a way that the Cardinals are going to acquire him for peanuts. I dunno, if the rockies really do get to the point they are going to trade him, there would be at least 10 teams making offers and they would take the highest bidder. That might wind up being the Cards, but it would cost alot...and I think regardless of where he goes, Arenado is opting out as long as he stays healthy. That means there would be a lot more teams interested in him for 2 years instead of 7-8. On the surface, yes. But teams aren't lining up to acquire a $35M annual contract. No matter who the player is. You've got the opt out and the no trade too. This is probably going to be a situation similar to Stanton. A couple teams are going to want him but he's going to chose whatever team he wants and that team will get him for next to nothing if he's moved at all.
  25. Not interested but don't trash anything. If you want to get rid of them give them to a charity. They can use them for a raffle or silent auction.
