  1. The handful of games I've watched so far I've noticed a lot of strikes called much higher in the zone than normal.
  2. I agree. Somewhat likely scenario if all are healthy for opening day is Granndal, Pina, and Kratz all making the roster. The Brewers making 3 catchers work for as long as possible and DFA Kratz if not injuries or trade opportunities arise and they can no longer roster all 3. Stearns likes to delay making permanent roster decisions for as long as possible. The only way I can see 3 C's making it is if Thames is traded. Otherwise you have 5 guys covering only 2 positions. That's very anti-Stearns.
  3. Look at Gosewich's numbers. Then look at Kratz. Somehow that Tuffy guy keeps finding jobs despite being a much worse player than Kratz. I couldn't care less about either of them but I think Kratz would catch on somewhere if we cut him. He's 3 or 4 on the depth chart here, I think he could get a #2 job somewhere, even if it's just for the first couple weeks of the season.
  4. All of these proposed changes to speed up the game effect the pitcher. If you want to know what's making games take longer it's that batters are working the count and trying to draw walks instead of trying to put the ball in play early in the count. And there's no rules you change to fix that without greatly changing the game.
  5. Big whoop. He wants to have a really good player on his team. And people have a problem with that? If Yelich or Braun said the same thing people here wouldn't care a lick one way or another. And not to dive into the topic that drives everyone crazy these days, but you won't have to worry about players joining together to form superteams in MLB anytime soon. Teams just can't afford to sign multiple superstar players because superstar players aren't willing to take a discount to win. In the NBA, guys are taking less than the maximum of what they could get so teams can afford to create a superteam.
  6. This exactly. There's way too much wasted time during pitching changes. Signal the change from the dugout, drive the pitcher to the mound, and give him 3 pitches to warm up. No one needs the 8 or 10 they already get. Get fully warm in the bullpen, that's why it's there.
  7. I thought that was the best proposal out there from a fan's perspective. I was all for it. End the specialty pitcher. Put it out of its misery already. Make these guys earn a paycheck. Specialization is part of the game. Let's get rid of speedy pinch runners and no glove, all bat DH types, or late inning defensive replacements while we're at it. Any time saved by a 3 batter minimum would be lost when a reliever can't find the plate. How many times do we see a guy come in and walk the first batter on 4 or 5 pitches and it's obvious he just doesn't have it? Now that guy has to face two more batters and he will walk at least one of them if not both.
  8. Thank god the union rejected the 3 batter minimum.
  9. Gray's Slider% the last 5 years 2014 - 10.9 2015 - 16.7 2016 - 11.2 2017 - 14.2 (A's) 2017 - 18.2 (Yankees) 2018 - 15.9 His Slider Runs Above Average/100 2014 - 2.32 2015 - 1.85 2016 - -1.09 2017 - 1.02 (A's) 2017 - 2.29 (Yankees) 2018 - -.2 Looks like it's been a real up and down pitch for him. His percentage thrown with the A's were all over the place and they definitely went up when he went to the Yankees. It also looks like it was rather effective in 2017 but was really bad last year.
  10. The Brewers need to contact the Astros and Blue Jays and figure out how to modernize the ball and glove. As a logo it's fine (I don't love it as much as most everyone else does) but it just screams 80's to me. Even when used in the current colors it doesn't seem very "in the times" to me. Figure out something to freshen up the uniforms and branding of the team while maintaining the feel of the ball and glove like those two teams did with their old logos. I haven't seen many people calling for a total remake but I really like what the Bucks did a few years ago. Everything about their logo and colors feels very modern and old at the same time. I'd love for the Brewers to do something like that. Not straight up copy it but follow a similar path.
  11. The length and total are absurd but about $25M a year seems like a good deal for the first 7 or so seasons. Even 10 years from now, a 36 year old Harper making $25M a season might not be such a disaster.
  12. Had Gio not finished the year with the Brewers would anyone be bringing his name up? I kind of doubt it. I had posted somewhere that his BABIP plummeted (to the good) when he came here. Perhaps it was due to the Brewers advanced and talented defense, maybe it was just luck. Probably somewhere in between. Either way, there's some upside there but I'd rather just roll with the young guys than waste time and money on Gio.
  13. Seems crazy that it applies to ST games. There are a lot of minor leaguers that mop up the end of these games. I would assume it's because he's currently on the 40 man. And this wouldn't apply to any random A-baller who happens to get into a big league game.
  14. Both have said it was just a family squabble. Unless she presses charges I hope this just goes away.
  15. Is leaving room for Kratz a good idea? He seems like a great guy but his 69 OPS+ last year was pretty terrible. Although if the other option for backup catcher is Gosewisch, he of the career 35 OPS+, I guess Kratz is better. Or, sucks less, if you will. I doubt they keep Nottingham around to only play 1 or 2 games a week.
  16. On the one hand the Royals are rebuilding and should not be trading assets for an only ok catcher. On the other hand, they really don't seem to have much of a plan with their rebuild so I wouldn't be surprised if they made a stupid move for a different catcher.
  17. I’m pretty sure red was already an accent color for the Brewers due to the stitching on the baseball on the Brewers script logo. That might have changed when they made the M logo the official logo prior to last year. I don't know if I would count that as an accent color. I thought I remember there being a lot of red used in graphics and things right after Miller Park opened. I could be wrong though.
  18. Honestly, I do not think it will really matter as the Brewers will certainly use both. I foresee the royal & yellow and navy & yellow being used with one being the main logo and the other being the alternate. I for one prefer the royal and yellow, simply from it being the historical Brewers logo and colors. No, it has nothing to do with this being the logo from their hey day. It has everything to do with the royal & yellow being the Brewers to me. As I mentioned in another thread, what I am anticipating the Brewers changing to with the uniform is hiding in plain sight at American Family Fields of Phoenix. Look at the number and name font on the walk of fame leading to the stadium. Look at the historical number wall. Look at the font on the welcoming sign to the stadium. None of these fonts have been used previously in Milwaukee and are the most prominent feature in Maryvale. Shouldn't all of this be in the Times New Roman font if the uniform were remaining the same? Based on what I am seeing, I absolutely love the new new number and name font. Much better than the Times New Roman of the M with barley uniforms and more unique than the ball and glove font. I posted in the name change thread that there's al lot of red in Maryvale, so I could see that being used as an accent color. And the typeface on everything there is much better than what they are currently using. Having said that, Barrelman or bust. There is no other option.
  19. I would assume that is to fit in with the desert motif of Arizona. I can't imagine the Brewers FO being that tone deaf to return to the ball and glove and then change the colors of the team to incorporate a red tone. Put more succinctly, it was a disaster from 1994-1999 and it would be again in 2020. I don't think it would be a main color, more of an accent color. I do like the way the giant red numbers look. And it's a better typeface than what's on the current jerseys.
  20. There's an awful lot of red at the new Maryvale. Is that going to be incorporated into any new team branding?
  21. why is that? Because the Mets are the Mets and stupid stuff like this only happens to the Mets. The Brewer's clubhouse salad tongs would disagree with that.
  22. He's going to the Rams because, why not?
  23. The reason teams include opt outs is it because it gives them the opportunity to reap the rewards of the front end of the contract while potentially missing out on the risk at the back end. A player is only going to opt out if they think they can get more money by doing so, which means they've performed well to that point. If they opt out the original team can let another team pay for the player's older/riskier years & reinvest that saved money elsewhere. I don't see the advantage for the team in giving the player the option. If he is worth more he opts out and gets paid more. If he isn't worth more he doesn't opt out and the team is stuck overpaying him. There may be some players who overestimate their value but banking in it is a pretty huge risk. The only advantage for the team is if adding it gets the player to sign the deal. As you said, if the player performs he gets to opt out and sign for more money. If he sucks he's guaranteed money not equal to his performance. It's a sweetener is all it is.
  24. Don't forget the costs of ownership is not simply player salaries. The front office, analytics departments, Murphy Money, first class tickets for players, team charters, top hotel rooms, locker room attendants, in-game entertainment, etc. People on here are acting like: (Brewers Revenues) - (Players salaries) = profit This is simply not true. I'd like to think most people understand that. The other thing is that Mark is not the only owner of the Brewers. I'm sure just about every other team is owned the same way. Mark might be happy spending more on players and making a few million less but the other owners have a say in that too and they might not be as happy with it. Especially since they're already making less since they own a smaller percentage of the team. I think we would really be surprised at how much Mark, or any other principle owner of any team, actually personally makes by owning a franchise. I'm sure it's a number most of us can only dream of but I have a feeling it is nowhere near as much as we all want to believe these guys are taking home.
  25. Back to the snow/ice on sidewalks issue. We got a little snow and a lot of drifting overnight so I went to do some shoveling this morning. Removing the snow just exposed the half inch to inch of ice underneath. Upon realizing there was better traction with the snow I just left it.
