  1. Jeffress is not one failed test away from a lifetime suspension. Can we stop saying that. His 2 failed tests in the minors have no effect on him in the majors. Major League players aren't even tested for what he was suspended for.
  2. MLB is the only sport that really cares. Baseball writers are the only ones that really care. And they get everyone riled up with their constant harping on it.
  3. Neither. I'll take the 3-13 season and draft my QB with a high pick.
  4. No way do I sign any player to age 36. Especially not a reliever with a career of inconsistency.
  5. Grandal admitted to this in his press conference. I'm pretty sure he was lying and making an excuse for his stupid decision to turn down more money but he said he took the higher average salary so that other catchers would get paid more. That's exactly what you're describing.
  6. And not much incentive for the Brewers to even offer it. He'd be 34-36 at the end of it. He's a very good hitter, not great. By that age it's not likely he'll still be "very good". If he's only average or worse that seems like wasted money. That of course ignores his defense which isn't anything special right now. It might be bad by that point.
  7. First of all Mr. Agent, all you're doing is throwing a fit to anyone who disagrees with you. Which is also what you're doing on Twitter too. You're not going to win over many hearts and minds that way. But that's all I'm going to say about that. As for all this collusion, unavoidable strike, whatever hoopla, I never see anyone talk about what is actually going to help teams be competitive. The players seem to only want more money. That's fine, I have no problem with a player getting paid as much money as they can negotiate, no matter how ridiculous that number is. The owners and a lot of other people say teams are just getting smarter with their money. I'm sure there are many owners that like that they can put a competitive team on the field and not spend a lot of money of it. But when you have one side saying "Collusion! Pay us more!" and on the other side you have teams like Milwaukee, Oakland, and Tampa Bay on shoe string budgets being competitive and getting all star performances at clearance prices while teams like Baltimore, San Francisco, and the Angels have albatross contracts on teams going nowhere, I'm going to side the with those that are at least giving the illusion of trying to be competitive. Having said that, players need to be getting paid more early in their career, if they deserve it. The fact that in his first two full MLB seasons Mike Trout OPS'd near 1.000 and was paid only $1M is beyond ridiculous. Even Travis Shaw, back to back 30 HR seasons, OPS around .850 and he's not even making $5M this year. Pay the guys when they are in their prime and are worth it.
  8. Even if you added Harper, Machado, Kuechel, and Kimbrel they would still probably be the worst team in baseball. That pitching is terrible. And the offense would basically be Machado and Harper with a little Marwin Gonzalez throw in.
  9. What will be really interesting is if the Astros treat him like a "regular" starting pitcher and try as get as many innings out of him as possible each game or use him how the Brewers did. And then what his numbers look like.
  10. I'm totally in the never extend a relief pitcher boat. But with the way pitching use is changing to multi-inning relievers, perhaps they won't be so "volatile" in the future. For example, last year Hader threw 80 innings. Just taking a quick look at the IP for two of the best RP is baseball shows that neither Kimbrel nor Jansen has ever thrown 80 innings in a season. Kimbrel was over 70 once in his career and Jansen has done it twice. Otherwise they've been in the 60's. More innings gives you a bigger sample and less volatility, in theory. Plus you're actually "getting what you pay for" so to speak.
  11. There's only 7 refs on the field, there's no way they can see everything that happens and certainly not from the angle they need to have to see it happen. I think the solution is pretty simple actually. There needs to be one ref up in the booth watching the game on TV who can call or negate penalties in real time because he's going to have a better view than those on the field. No holding up play so he can look at it over and over like replay, just fix the blatant mistakes that everyone watching on TV can see. It seems like an obvious fix to me. However, if they were to implement something like this I can only see the NFL screwing it up and somehow making things worse.
  12. Pass. Hope he stays healthy, continues to pitch well, and then cash him in for prospects.
  13. During games is fine but I wouldn't stick around after, nor is there really any reason to anyway. There was a serial killer on the loose a couple years ago. Not sure what happened with that.
  14. Agreed. Instead of just enjoying the entertainment of the games people are constantly creating reasons to be upset at the NFL. I get it if you're a Saints fan but that's it. Same with the Patriots. Apparently the NFL fixes games so they win all the time. The same NFL that has fined the organization millions of dollars, taken away their first round draft picks, and suspended their Hall of Fame QB.
  15. Had to go to a Dr appointment this afternoon and ran some errands while I was out. This is no where near the coldest I can remember in my life. My car said -12 but it didn't feel anywhere near that, even with the wind.
  16. If they called it "American Family Insurance presents Damian Miller Park" would you all be happy?
  17. 40 this weekend. Enjoy the 60 degree warmup!
  18. I still would't discount them signing/trading for a 2B or 3B and moving Shaw to 2B again. For free agents Marwin Gonzales is the big one that will cost years and money but there looks to be some cheap, one year options available yet. Deitrich, Solarte, Forsythe, and Josh Harrison probably aren't going to be getting much for very long at this point.
  19. I posted the same in the rumors thread. Any team that wants him has cost certainty now so it should increase his trade value somewhat.
  20. When I saw they were discussing an extension I thought how stupid of the Royals, no reason to spend money to extend a 30 year old when you're rebuilding. Now that I see for how much, it seems like he must really want to stay in Kansas City. Which is kind of ironic because this deal certainly just upped his trade value.
  21. His swing seemed fine last year. But it seemed like he would go through stretches where he would just swing at anything within 2 feet of the plate and he would be totally useless.
  22. I know most people are going to crap all over it but I'm kind of excited for the AAF. Should provide something a little exciting until baseball starts.
  23. Everyday we hear about how big of a problem alcohol and drinking is in Wisconsin. Maybe Mark is trying to distance his organization from that. Yes, I understand as long as the team is called the Brewers that's impossible but just throwing it out there.
  24. It would be nice if they did some bobbles of no name players who had random individual performances like Chris Saenz only start, Kottaras hitting for the cycle, or any of the players who hold the Brewer's record for RBI's in a game like Aaron Hill and Ted Kubiak. Those totally obscure things are more interesting than another version of a Ryan Braun bobblehead.
  25. Nine straight years managing in low A seems rather uncommon. I thought the hiring of Counsell would lead to Matt coming to the big league staff shortly after, especially after someone (Stearns or Counsell, can't remember) made some comments praising him and the job he does. Maybe it's just a matter of him wanting to wait until his kids are older.
