  1. I'm not sure where the hypocrisy is here. Hypocrisy would be if they said "we take domestic violence issues very seriously and don't want players or personnel that would taint our high moral standards" and then they trade for Addison Russell.
  2. I have honestly never understood this argument when it comes to baseball. Baseball has natural breaks and that is where they put the commercials in. The pitcher needs his warm up pitches and people have to get on/off the field. They don't draw this out to fit in commercials. There aren't forced breaks like there are in football/basketball to have commercials. On another note I am not sure why there is complaining about kids sitting on tablets and not playing with neighborhood kids. The kids doing this aren't even old enough to go to a game by themselves. Well, to me I thought that it is drawn out an extra minute or so due to the forced commercial break. Basically, that they'd be able to do it quicker if they didn't know they had as long as they did. Like, is there as long a break in untelevised college and minor league games? I'd think not. If that's not true, so be it but that's the thought. Another thing I thought of on this after that wouldn't work is that it would give one team an 'advantage' in that they'd have longer to warm up or at least not have to rush. So yea might have to scratch that one. But maybe instead of 3 mins or whatever it is now, chop it 2. Shorten it up somehow. Current MLB rules are 2:25 break for each half inning, longer for national television games and I believe even longer for playoff games. 2:25 is the same for the minors and they have a 20 second clock between each pitch. I don't think you can realistically make it any shorter than that.
  3. I got to know Brewers prospects through his videos, so I'll miss that.
  4. That's all well and good for the Brewers to want to do but the player you sign has to be ok with it. You need to find a player willing to accept a short term deal and the fact that they are just holding a spot until Hiura is ready to replace them, which could likely be all of two months.
  5. When I met him last year he was talking about his kids and couldn't remember when one of their birthday's was. Not surprised he wants to stay close to home. Although, when he does come back to the Brewers in whatever form that is, he's going to have to move the family here, right?
  6. When I worked at an Ace Hardware, I'd overhear customers complaining all the time about our "high" prices. I remember a couple guys looking at some electrical outlets and one guy loudly saying "I'm not going to pay that! Let's go to Menards and get it." Apparently the 15 minute drive across down was worth it for him to save 35 cents. I'll tell you what's really bugging me right now. I'm the #1 seed in my fantasy football playoffs, highest scoring team in the league this year by a wide margin and I'm probably going to lose to the worst seed who barely squeaked into the playoffs and barely won the first round and finished the year 9th in scoring. I'll probably top my season scoring average but he has Damien Williams and DeAndre Hopkins who've lit it up so far this week and he just needs his players to not get hurt in their games tomorrow and he'll win easily.
  7. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the White Sox have no intention of trading Jose Abreu, even after acquiring Yonder Alonso from the Indians on Friday. There had already been rumblings that Abreu may have been available, and Friday's acquisition of Alonso seemed to put even more wood on that fire, but perhaps the two can co-exist in Chicago. Alonso is an extremely skilled defender and likely to be the everyday first baseman, which would force Abreu into a full-time DH role, something that in the past he has claimed he does not want to do. This could just be posturing on the White Sox' part in order to get a better offer for Abreu. Source: Bob NIghtengale on Twitter Dec 14 - 11:00 PM Almost certainly the bolded part. They could trade Abreu for some prospects or also trade him for a couple major leaguers to fill holes if they think they can compete. I believe this is the last year he's signed for. It makes the most sense for them to trade him for something rather than just get the comp pick.
  8. Abreu will probably be the DH. Unless they sign one of Harper or Machado and add some more pitching, they're stupid to hold on to him.
  9. While I don't think it will be, the season finale of South Park felt a lot like a series finale. I think they may have even referenced my theory that they used this season to try and get cancelled when the boys said something like "everything gets cancelled because people get offended but no matter what we do we can't get people mad enough to get cancelled" and then lamenting about "how much longer can we do this?"
  10. Probably also means that Abreu is as good as gone. Would love for the Brewers to go after him.
  11. Thanks for posting, I was coming here to share this. They touch upon how the Brewers are valuing and flat out targeting pitchers who give different looks. They want to make batters face pitches coming from different planes, angles, sides, etc as often as possible. Limiting repeat looks in every way possible. Not just give batter 1-2 consecutive ABs vs one pitcher at most but have him followed to the mound by someone with a dramatically different look. And then there's this... Sound like anyone we have under control for years to come whose initials are FP who is not going anywhere anytime soon? I can throw a ball from any angle and can generally put it close to the strikezone. I should send Stearns some tape. The Brewers will be at the forefront of signing pitchers over 30 who 10 years ago couldn't cut in D3 ball.
  12. Depends on the day. Seems like they've done a decent job of stocking their farm system but then do pointless things like grossly overpaying for multiple years of an average at best 1B and now give multiple years to a washed up veteran who plays the same position as their top prospects.
  13. Claudio's kind of meh and the draft pick is more likely to never make it past AA then even see one day in the majors. Push, I guess.
  14. Portland, Oregon just agreed last month to build an MLB stadium so it looks like the Rays are heading west.
  15. No thanks. Might as well just place him and Braun on the DL in spring training to save the roster shuffling. And as I posted in his release thread, he's really nothing much of a hitter outside of Coors.
  16. .949 OPS at Coors. Around .800 everywhere else. Still a good hitter but probably not the superstar he was made out to be.
  17. Agree. For the Pirates, it's shedding salary. For the White Sox, it's getting a guy to fill a rotation spot who can help them if they are actually competitive this year or that they can trade at the deadline for something.
  18. Is Sunday Night Baseball or ESPN a big deal anymore? And is starting games an hour earlier worth any sort of announcement? Seems more like a press release or blurb in a story about something else.
  19. If you get a chance, read Bill James book "Whatever Happened to the Hall of Fame." The HOF jumped the shark pretty early on, like 5 years after it opened as it became about politics, PR, personal grudges, and voting in buddies. And of course the creation of all these stupid committees who's sole purpose is to get certain players voted in that the BBWA won't.
  20. Their OC went to coach the 49'ers and I think took a lot of the offensive staff with him. I think a lot is they had an over achieving defense that year and Matt Ryan is one of those QB's who can get you pretty far when everything lines up perfectly like Eli Manning but is kind of a dud otherwise.
  21. So was this basically everyone playing politics and an above average DH and closer accidentally get voted in? Edit: Nevermind, I thought this was the "real" Hall of Fame voting. Still, pretty underwhelming.
  22. Hey he was 35th ranked prospect by BA. Unfortunately that was 11 years ago. That's an example why ranking low level arms so high is pure folly, especially from big market organizations like the Mets. I think that's an example, too, of these ranking services disproportionately ranking guys for big markets higher than similarly talented players in small market organizations. The big markets can spend money to market the heck out of their younger prospects, which puts them on the national radar sooner, making them more valuable to idiot GMs who take national rankings seriously. If Guerra would have been in the Brewers organization 11 years ago, dollars to doughnuts says no one knows who he is, perhaps even guys running his own organization. This is another case where baseball is unequal. Fans are the only ones who put any value into prospect rankings. Organizations are smart enough to pay zero attention to those anymore.
  23. If I'm the Yankees or Brewers, I just do Thames for Gray straight up. No way does anyone want Hosmer and the contract and Houser and Anderson seems like a lot of pitching to give up for a guy who has sucked for a year and a half and may never be what he once was.
  24. Since we're complaining about work... I've been contemplating going back to work after staying home with my son for a couple years so I've haphazardly looked for job openings. This morning I saw a tweet from a local place saying they have job openings. So I went to their site and saw they have two and one of them I was actually interested in. Reading the description the position was part of a grant and they hoped to start in mid-October. I wasn't sure if that meant this past October or 2019. I could see it being next year since I'm sure there's lots of hoops and red tape needed since it's funded by a grant and I could also see it being this past October since I guessed there weren't many people in our area with the skills required for it and it's probably taken awhile to fill it. I emailed the contact asking when the start was and they responded with it was this past October and it's been filled. So they advertised job "openings", of which they had two posted, and one had been already filled. It's more crap like this that I'm not looking forward to.
  25. Stearns has a type, crappy catchers, and he can't say no to them.
