  1. Ya, see this all the time and I just don't get it. On the rare chance I actually go to a game I'm going to get decent seats, usually around the Brewers dugout, and there's always some group of 20 somethings that show up in the third inning double fisting beers and bloody mary's who watch for an inning and then leave only to come back around the 7th with more beer and bloody mary's and then leave for good after the stretch. You spent like $80 on a seat (plus probably another hundred on alcohol) to sit in it for 20 minutes. But I'm just a 30 year guy with the temperament of a 70 year old man so what do I know.
  2. I don't know how much he really meant it but he said he would only sign near his home in the northeast. If he stuck to that, it would limit his market to just a few teams. He also chose to represent himself.
  3. I'll be the cranky old guy and say it. There needs to be sections for people who are there specifically to watch baseball. When I go to a game I'll only get up to go to the bathroom or in the extremely rare circumstance that I'll actually buy stadium food, so once or twice a game. There's nothing more annoying than sitting around people who are constantly getting up during an inning, college kids downing 6 large beers and getting belligerently drunk by the 5th inning, or who have kids that have to go to the bathroom or go somewhere else every other inning.
  4. At this point, Ben Gamel and Claudio are the only additions the team has made that will likely impact the major league roster. We've lost our best SP and a starting infielder and replaced neither, and last year relied on Yelich and a bullpen full of guys playing out of their minds. If the season started today I could see this being a .500 team. I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, I'm just pointing out Stearns hasn't gotten to work yet, so I can't blame anyone for looking at the current roster and not seeing many wins there.
  5. Ya, I never get that reason either. Especially for baseball players. How much "free time" do they even have during a home stand? A couple hours in the morning? Also when someone choses a team because their Spring Training complex in near where they live. I guess the extra 6 weeks at home is nice but you're still spending 6 months somewhere else.
  6. Isn't Tulo a big Jeter fan boy? I seem to remember that being why he wears #2.
  7. It's a 10 hour flight from Tokyo to Seattle, 14 hours to NYC and Houston, 13 hours to Chicago, and 12 hours to LA. Does a few hours really make any difference when you're talking flights that long?
  8. The "business reporter" for our local newspaper just copies and pastes Facebook posts from businesses and somehow this constitutes news. Seriously, she will write one or two sentences and then copy whole paragraphs from Facebook and this is actually published and printed without any mention of where the words came from. It's passed off as if she any did some actual reporting.
  9. Without the money known, tough to make any opinions of it. I guess Japanese players must really love Seattle as most of them seem to end up there at some point in their careers. I guess he's youngish but Seattle is clearly rebuilding and the move doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense for them. Although they will probably trade him within 2 years.
  10. Elway already said they won't be interviewing Gase. It's not terrible but I really don't think it's all that appealing. Sure, you've got Rodgers but he could very likely be on the decline. He's probably a top 10 QB next year but how far away is he from turning into Peyton Manning's final year and the defense still looks crappy. Not to mention the Vikings and Bears will make a very competitive division for the foreseeable future. The Browns and Jets look like much better places.
  11. I have no clue who this Fitzgerald guy is but all I keep hearing is that since Mark Murphy hired him somewhere else over 10 years ago he's a favorite. Maybe I'm wrong, but that seems like a pretty dumb reason to hire a coach.
  12. Dodgers and Cubs are that level now too.
  13. He has 4 days to sign and I've heard only slightly more than zero chatter about him. Usually just a throw in "so and so team scouted him last year". That seems weird. I don't know what it means but it sure seems weird.
  14. Funny, I was thinking Lambeau would be a great place for a bowl game recently too. I don't think getting fans to travel would be tough as long as both teams come from cold climates.
  15. From one of the best catchers in the league to bouncing around on low dollar one year deals in only a couple years.
  16. Wasn't a lot of the appeal of Gray for us because Derek Johnson was his college pitching coach? Unless the Yankees are paying almost all of his contract I'm not interested. Maybe Thames for Gray straight up but that's about it.
  17. Stearns brought in Jesus Aguilar whom the Indians "gave up for nothing" so I'll call it a wash.
  18. Was really hoping he would go to Houston to see what kind of HR numbers he would put up with the short LF porch. Target field is certainly going to suppress those HR totals, especially playing the month of April in 20 degrees and snow in Minneapolis.
  19. Two places I've worked at had dogs in the office. Both places reeked of stinky dog whenever you were there and the smell and hair stayed on my clothes when I got home. I really hate dogs but I guess I don't have a problem with people having them at work as long as their presence doesn't negatively affect others. When you show up everyday and the boss's dog shoves their face in your crotch, then maybe you need to reconsider things.
  20. Ya, I don't get why everyone is assuming that is the real Domingo. He followed up 2017 by posting a sub .700 OPS through 3 months of 2018 and looking absolutely clueless at the plate before getting demoted. I'm sure he's actually better than he was last year but if he's more of the .800ish OPS guy he was his whole career before 2017 he's not worth all the much with his atrocious defense. Especially now that he's arbitration eligible and will probably get paid based in his HR totals. Frankly, if Stears felt there was any chance the 2017 Domingo was the real Domingo, they'd try to find a way to make it work with all the OF currently on the team. That they tried hard to trade him last offseason and now finally did I think tells you all you need to know about what they think of him.
  21. Marlins for sure. Maybe the Giants but having the rebuilding DBacks in the same division might keep both those teams from having truly horrendous records. I'd say the Pirates are certainly "contenders" to lose 90 as they are clearly the worst team in a very talented division and they should be selling whatever players they have at the deadline and will be pretty bad the last two months of the year.
  22. Domingo did not start a single game in September and saw all of 8 innings in the field after rosters expanded. His bat wasn't good enough to crack the starting lineup and his defense isn't good enough to take up a bench spot on a 25 man roster. The 2019 outfield is probably going to be exactly the same as 2018, so basically the Brewers already decided last year they had no use for him. As for Gamel, I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the same spot as Domingo is now at this time next year. He'll most likely be out of options and doesn't seem like a guy you try to make fit on your roster if you're forced to.
  23. I love seeing trades like this where some team pays another team to take their expensive crappy players for next to nothing in return. How Matt Kemp has fallen from superstar to unwanted contract that gets tossed around every year. How many different teams are on the hook for him now, 4 or 5? This seems pretty good for the Reds. You'd think Puig or Wood can get them something worthwhile in a trade this offseason or at the deadline.
  24. I'd bet a team of high contact, line drive hitters would put up some good numbers. If Cain or Yelich played 81 games there they might have a shot at hitting .400.
  25. I will be curious to see if Miller is totally out of gas or if last year was just a down year. If he's done as a dominant pitcher, it makes an interesting study in how long a guy can be used a multiple inning reliever and maintain high levels of success. He's only got 4 seasons of dominance. Obviously his age is probably a factor, but let's just say following similar usage the same thing happens to Hader or any of the other guys in the league that are starting to take on that role. Is it worth it for a club to use and abuse a guy and only get 4 or 5 good years out of him. Or, more importantly, are players going to be accepting of that role that could severely limit the length of their careers and earnings potential. I'm sure Boras is putting together binder of information on the subject already.
