  1. trade? If the Reyes to Marlins rumor is true how about going after Hanley Ramirez? Ramirez has been a pain in the arse but you can't deny his talent....and maybe a change of scenery is exactly what he needs.....It seems like the Marlins are looking for pitching
  2. there is ZERO Braves interest in Hart.....don't have the $$$$$ ....that's why they're shopping Jurrjens & Prado a) to get some working room under their budget, and b) to get some high quality prospects that they can control at a low salary
  3. Jurrjens' injuries have not been arm related.....nagging stuff like oblique, hip, bone bruise on a knee, etc.... IIRC he led the NL in ERA at the all-star break....Jurrjens is still only 25 with a career record of 50-33 3.40 ....damn good, but he's a Boras client ....free agent after 2014 Prado also had injury issues after hitting over .300 in 2010 ....he just turned 28 & has career numbers of .293/.341/.434 The Brewers lack the prospects to even sniff these guys; Braves need a LF with power, preferably a right handed stick....a CF of the future, and a stop-gap SS for one year, and they all must be cheap...... the Braves had little interest in Hart; the rumor was the Braves turned down Hart for Minor....counter offers didn't work because the Braves didn't want to give up Minor while Melvin didn't want to give up Cain
  4. I assume pitching coach Dave Duncan is retiring too? that would be a HUGE loss for the bad guys
  5. good point.... and that's the rub, I think they want to use those three cats less so they don't run out of gas in September like they did this year..... part of the problem was their horrible offense because it seemed to this Braves fan that every game was very close in the late innings which puts pressure on your closer & top setup men....and after Moylan, Linebrink & Sherrill got hurt they were screwed.... The Braves have a couple of highly rated prospects who might be ready ....plus Kris Medlen is back from Tommy John & actually pitched well in his Sept comeback; they might move him to the pen since there probably isn't room for him in the rotation
  6. Braves make room in their rotation for 22 year old Randall Delgado....he was impressive in September with an era of 2.83 after moving into the starting rotation for the injured Hanson..... The Braves media thinks the team will try to move Jair Jurrgens for an OF ....that would make room in the rotation for 21 year old Julio Teheran, their top prospect..... The Braves are really strapped financially since being bought by Comcast.....they have struggled to stay withing a $90 million budget after it peaked at $110 million just a few years ago....they only have about $10 million available to fill the starting shortstop, two bullpen & a reserve infielder positions The Braves also picked up Eric Hinske's $1.5 million option & cut ties with Nate McLouth by executing a $1.25 million buyout option.....
  7. KC is looking for young & cheap....Marcum doesn't fit their agenda I'd keep Marcum & build around the solid starting 5
  8. from MLB rumors:
  9. Given the Giants strategy of building around their strong pitching staff combined with their ballpark, I could see them being more interested in Reyes than Fielder.....they could move Posey to 1B as a strategy to keep him healthy & in the lineup everyday; and he can rake when healthy....
  10. If you trade Axford you create a huge hole in order to fill another.....and with no one in the organization capable of being the next closer, the cost of going outside the organization to find his replacement will be very expensive.... No thanks, must keep Axford...... also, finding closers is risky & expensive.....for example the Orioles; they gave huge free agent money to Mike Gonzalez & he sucked from day 1 ..... and the Yankees made a huge mistake when they signed Rafael Soriano to a huge contract (to be a setup man, part time closer, and successor to Rivera)
  11. 1) Adam LaRoche.... missed almost all of 2011 after suffering a torn labrum in spring training....reportedly will resume baseball activities in mid-November & will be ready for the opening of spring training.... has a $8 million salary for 2012 with a mutual option for 2013.....whether the Nationals plan to keep Morse at 1B or move him to LF to make room for Pujols or Fielder, I think the Nats would deal LaRoche & maybe even eat some of his salary.....Nats will look for OF depth per MLB.com..... Good fit: gold glove quality fielder who would be the best defensive 1B in Milwaukee since George "Boomer" Scott & Cecil Cooper.....his overall numbers are consistent from year to year & he's still only 32.... and he's a lefthanded stick in a right handed dominant lineup .... Bad fit: he's terribly inconsistent in a lineup full of streak hitters (other than Braun) ....always starts slow & finishes strong....strikes out a lot.... 2) Kendrys Morales.... hasn't played since early 2010 due to a broken ankle suffered during a homerun celebration.... sounds like he's headed to arbitration; last salary was $2.975 million....still only 28.....switch hitter, which would be a nice asset for the Brewers lineup..... do the Angels want to keep him???????
  12. I wonder if the Giants will make Posey a fulltime 1B? ....the reason is to minimize the injury risk to their top bat..... then they could approach the Brewers about Lucroy .....not sure if Belt for Lucroy makes sense, I'll leave that one for you guys.....
  13. Reyes is as risky as they come.... total head case & you'll never know if you can count on him Did he have a great season because it was his contract year? just saying because if you commit, say, 8 years for $150 million you better get 100% effort & great character for the length of the contract otherwise a small market franchise is screwed ....IIRC his agent was asking for Fielder-type $$$$ earlier in the season
  14. Morrison would be an excellent addition ....assuming the price is right He played a lousy LF & Sanchez is set at 1B so I think Florida would move him for the right price....
  15. I don't think his trade value will ever be higher....
  16. stupid rumor started by the stupid media trying to invent a stupid story.... Wrenn said Heyward is going no where..... trading a talent like Heyward is the kind of move that gets GM's fired..... Braves offseason objectives: 1) need a big righthanded bat in LF ....may deal Prado who would look good at 3B in Milwaukee; look at Prado's 2010 numbers when he was healthy; he played hurt most of last year while also learning a new position (LF) ... 2) may offer Jurrjens & Prado for #1, if it can land them the right bat 3) find a sucker to take Lowe....might have to do a bad contract for bad contract trade 4) bullpen depth.....they wore out the young arms in their bullpen & can't let that happen again .... 5) SS ....prospects are a year or two away so they need a veteran SS to bridge the gap....they may still resign Gonzalez, fine glove but want more offense 6) keeping Hanson & Jurrjens healthy would solve most problems
  17. did you ever hear of the Milwaukee Braves?
  18. Craig Kimbrel has a scoreless streak of 36.2 innings....the last run he allowed was on June 11 his stats during this streak: ERA=0.00 ... WHIP=0.65 ... K/9=15.95
  19. The Orioles were never quite the same after Harry Dalton left for the Brewers.....and George Bamberger had a little to do with it too
  20. I've said this before & I'll repeat it here: you MUST have three southpaws in the pen to beat the Phillies.....and at this point with the team playing great, this must be Melvin's objective because the road to the World Series goes thru Philly It must be karma because it seems like you'll see Howard, Utley & even Rollins (switch hitter) come to the plate in innings 7-9 with ducks-on-the-pond....need those lefties to control those cats
  21. +1 The ESPN talking heads are a joke.....and biased I like most of the MLB Network crew....but please, please get rid of Kevin Millar & Jerry Manuel .....and give me more Peter Gammons & especially the guys from Baseball America
  22. read somewhere that Young got very fat during his rehab & the Twins were very pissed at his lack of commitment...... If he responds to a change of scenery & finds some discipline & commitment the Tigers will have a "steal" ...the only issue is the Tigers are compiling a lengthly list of players who can rake but can't field a lick
  23. Arthur Rhodes was just DFA'd by the Rangers
  24. Bourn will be a free agent after the 2012 season....he's a Boras client so there's no way he re-signs with the Braves (too much bad blood between Schuerholtz & Boras) Win for the Braves because they didn't have to give up any of their top pitching prospects or catching prospect Christian Bethancourt Astros get Jordan Schafer and three pitching prospects: southpaw Brett Oberholtzer (#9 by Baseball America), Paul Clemens (#26) and Juan Abreu (#27)
  25. the plate ump also had a very dubious night calling balls & strikes.....in fact he reminded me of Leslie Nielson's strike zone when he played the ump in The Naked Gun McLouth & Fredie Gonzalez were both kicked out for arguing a called strike that could of only been hit by a 3-iron
