  1. I really like Stiever from Indiana with the third pick if he's there. Local kid from Cedarburg and a little small for your right handed prototype starter but a super athlete. Still figuring things out and getting experience. Think he could really be a steal in this draft. I am also a huge fan of Matt Mercer from Oregon. He took a step back this spring after a great summer in the Cape Cod League. Big fastball, solid changeup. Been said his breaking pitch has fallen back this year. Interesting to see what happens with some of the guys that the Brewers picked in the 2015 draft with no real expectations that they would sign Hooper from UCLA Beck from Stanford Kingham from Texas Indian from Florida will be gone early in the first.
  2. Carlos Rodon. Obvious injury concerns with him coming off of a shoulder surgery but he's one rehab start away from being back in the big leagues. Might also be too early in his years of control for the White Sox to consider dealing him. Fits the profile of a guy the Brewers would make a move for with his wipe out slider. Change up was coming on very strong last August before the injury. Love to see what Derek Johnson could do with a guy like this.
  3. The entire purpose of the Driveline facility he works out at is to use data driven research to improve your individual results instead of having the bias of a pitching coach try to fix it they look at every ounce of data and make it work. The facility has had so much success that they have partnered with numerous professional organizations including Bauer's current team. To say he doesn't listen to coaching is ridiculous, in fact the "personal pitching coach" you spoke of is paid by the Indians to work with other pitchers in the organization. Another very fun aspect of all of this is that Driveline is heavily influence by Brewers pitching coach Derek Johnson and cites him often in their research and training programs. Can't imagine Trevor would have even an ounce of issue listening to Johnson.
  4. Do you recall the off field issues? The only issues I recall were that he rubbed teammates the wrong way. Specifically Miguel Montero hated him because he tried to tell Montero how to call games?
  5. Trevor is a very peculiar guy. That, along with the openly talking about his politics on Twitter has rubbed people the long way. Personally I have never seen a pitcher that works harder on his craft, sometimes to a fault. Trevor is a big believer in Driveline Baseball (whose owner also rubs people the wrong way on social media). Their methods are unique but have been very successful thus far. They believe in data driven training, using all the latest PitchFX technologies, Rapsodo, Trackman and many more that I don't understand. People mainly note Trevor and Driveline for the crazy long toss stuff he does pre-game and the weighted balls but they are definitely using the same technology that the Brewers' brass is using to evaluate pitchers. To me it has seemed like the Brewers have targeted pitchers that they see have a dominant pitch and could be well served to increase usage of that pitch to improve, this is exactly what Bauer did last year with his curve ball. Seems like there definitely could be a match here. Unrelated side note: I met the BrewerWorld Twitter guy at the Winter meetings this year. Definitely meant to be a joke on other Brewers' bloggers but also I'm not surprised he's got some scoops. He knows some people.
  6. Who is on everybody's wish list today? I'm more of a college follower than I am high school so guys like Nick Banks, Bobby Dalbec and Matt Krook would excite me. Funkhouser would work for me as well as some of you have mentioned already. Whitewater's Lake Bachar should be picked up today as well. Not sure if that is a pick I want the Brewers to make or not. As far as college stats go I know a few guys like Matt Carpenter at a similar age and Stephen Piscotty in his draft year were around Ray. Also Matt Duffy was a complete disaster offensively in college. if the Brewers draft Krook who I mentioned above I would be pumped and his ERA and walk rate is atrocious. I also would have been really happy with drafting Alec Hansen who had really bad numbers this year.
  7. Just a couple more names to add to the worked out for the Brewers list recently. Top 100 draft prospect Bryse Wilson from Orange, CA according to this tweet and two JUCO players Delvin Zinn #233 on the BA 500 list and Tyreque Reed worked out for the Brewers in Biloxi per this tweet Sorry if the formatting is bad on those links. I don't post around here often enough to know what I'm doing.
  8. Jerry Sullivan is your guy. Pitched for Murphy in Triple-A last year in El Paso.
  9. Be interesting to see when the Brewers go with a below slot, college senior type pick. I dont think they are going to break the bank with any of the first three picks. Has anything been said about those guys asking price? Seems like they should all be around slot if not under which could allow us to make a Matuella/Nix splash if they hang around until 90. Dont think these guys are in play at 90 yet but a couple other names i'd love the brewers to get. Matt Hall LHP Missouri State led the nation in strikeouts, nothing over powering probably topping out at 91 MPH but a very solid pitcher that could move fast through the ranks. Nolan Kingham younger brother of Pirates pitching prospect Nick Kingham. Has been up to the mid 90s with his fastball. Big bodied type guy the Brewers (and every team) love. Lots of room to fill out. Texas commit but I think he would be a very signable guy given his brother's successful progression. (Up until TJ surgery this season)
  10. Would anybody else find it hilarious if a team that is behind the times like the Phillies decided to implement the strategy of putting their closer in the biggest spots instead of the automatic ninth inning role in order to avoid the vesting option? Wonder if they could win the grievance on the grounds of trying to implement a strategy like that. Could be very interesting
  11. I like a lot of things that Jungmann did last year. His peripheral improvement is a very encouraging sign, but that said he pitched for three fulls months and two or three starts in May at the Triple-A level. His ERA was over five in May, June and July before finishing up with an incredible August ERA under 2. Obviously ERA isn't the greatest indicator of how things are going at the Minor League level but given that Nashville pitchers were pretty dominant for a long period of time last year; I would want to see more than one month of success before I'm comfortable giving Jungmann a start.
  12. It seems like there could be a match here with Johan. The Brewers definitely want some depth in the rotation, dont want Jungmann to be your first option if one of the starters goes down at this point. Johan, if scouting and medicals all check out on him, could fall into that 2013 Gorzelanny role where he had 10 starts and 33 relief appearances.
  13. Counsell GM and Gabe Kapler manager... not likely. Wonder if Mark A. has any ties to Kim Ng? That would be an interesting hire
  14. This is just plain wrong. The Brewers starters have thrown the second most innings in the NL. What you are looking for doesn't really exist.
  15. Do we know that Melvin didn't try and go after Branyan? Seems like an interesting assumption as DM usually does his due diligence on most options. Interest has to go both ways and the Yankees seem like a better fit for him than the Brewers given the left handed friendliness of Yankee Stadium, rosters and DH option.
  16. I can't imagine too many people goign to the Bradley Center to see Jimmer Fredette after the first week of the season. Great shooter, great college player but I don't see him as the type to be a big draw for local fans.
  17. About 95 percent of the time (totally making that number up) the throw to first doesn't have a shot of getting an out. Most fans don't realize that pickoffs have value in throwing off the rhythm of the runner, hitter and things of that nature. To the average fan it is probably a representation of something that slows down the game even more.
  18. Rosiak is coverin Marquette basketball so I would assume he'll come down a few days after the Xavier game.
  19. Doug Russell has already taken that mantle over on 1250. Talking about how he's unhappy with his contracts and heard "rumblings." I hope somebody addresses him making up a story and presenting it as more than a conspiracy.
  20. Jim Edmonds retired today. Great news for Colby Rasmus not so much for the Brewers as La Russa definitely would have found a way to get Edmonds find some playing.
  21. Watch out fellas, Jen likes to check websites and search her name on google and get after people who say anything negative bout her. One of the thinnest skinned media people of all time, which leads me to what's bugging me... Media members like jason Wilde and trenni making a public display out of anybody who disagrees or makes fun of them on twitter. I understand that they want to defend themselves but you don't have to go after everyone in a public setting. Maybe it's just me.
  22. That was pretty much my point Rockco. He seemed bad in his time here to me as well, but Instead of going by who's the better hitter in a certain situation for one or two years why not go with who's the better hitter period. Greeg35 pretty much put it perfect. But back to mark kotsay...
  23. For his career with a man on third and under two outs Mike Cameron is an above .300 hitter going 100 for 329 with a .368 OBP and .878 OPS while Yuni is 37 for 140 .264 avg. with a. 250 OBP .657 OPS. Their is really nothing predictive about these stats either, Cam has had seasons of hitting .300 in these spots and other seasons of hitting under .150. Briggs really did treat a walk as a negative as he included it in the percentage of times that Cam didn't drive a run in, or at least that's how the numbers came off to me.
  24. Players like Suppan aren't usually the ones to buy the ad in the newspaper to say thanks to the fans. They are usually long term players with the team or players who shared some success with the team and the fans. Soup doesn't fit into any of those categories. His work in the community speaks to what kind of person he is.
  25. WTP that is pretty funny and actually does look a lot like him but it is actually Dick from the old Miller Lite ad campaign.
