  1. thecrew, Kintzler was optioned a few weeks ago and it not on a rehab assignment
  2. Hart with some nice plays tonight and lately. It was always painfully obvious that Fielder was abysmal at 1b, but watching Hart play a better 1b after 1 week on the job really shows just how pathetic Fielder was. He stretches towards throws so much better than Fielder ever did.
  3. the only weak link in that pen is Dillard. Remember before the broken hand when he threw 96 with sink and we were all thinking he'd be a stud? then he broke his hand, lost velocity/movement, and was subsequently converted to a sidearm style. He's got potential, but he's the replaceable member of the pen and at this point I'd put Perez ahead of him for being left-handed and having velocity
  4. Hopefully Estrada returns to the pen to stabilize the pen if Fiers has a good 3-5 starts in the big leagues. I originally advocated Fiers to the rotation with Estrada staying in his role, but later flipped to Fiers in the pen when Estrada adapted well to starting.
  5. adam, there's a time and a place for a bunt. Given how awful our lineup is, bunts can often be more productive outs than the K's. give away all the outs we want if we win.
  6. Maldonado shows Gomez how to bunt there. For a self-proclaimed great bunter, Gomez sure leaves them where guys can thrown out a lot.
  7. paul, weren't Josh Murray and Josh Prince also high draft picks at SS? I wouldn't say we've ignored it, but we also haven't drafted a ton of them
  8. tedaldtada...wasn't that hard for me. Thornburg has had more success in the minors than Peralta or Nelson. Nelson and Peralta have had about the same amount of success. I went Thorny, Nelson, and then Peralta because of duration of success and recent success. all are pretty good prospects though
  9. i still wouldn't think of selling. I also don't think we have much in the minors that could step in and play. I'm far less optimistic about Shafer than most here. I'm more a fan of Gindl than most on this board. Green needs to go back to AAA soon and play everyday. I love his potential even if his stance makes me cringe. But he's really only had 4 months of success in the last 5 years. I'd like to see him play regularly.
  10. 1. Thornburg 2. Nelson 3. Jungmann 4. Bradley 5. Gindl 6. Green 7. Peralta 8. Rogers 9. Hall 10. Fiers 11. Gennett 12. Wooten 13. Anundsen 14. Miller 15. Scarpetta 16. Schafer 17. Walla
  11. We're only what, 6 or 7 games back. We should even have conversations about selling for almost two months. Last year people we talking about selling at this time, too. A few acquisitions, some health, and a nice winning streak and we could be leading the division in only a few weeks.
  12. Thinking Selfishly... Since Arcia won't play stateside this year, does that mean it will prevent his "years till needs to be on the 40" clock from starting for another year?
  13. I think lawrence has a Sheffield-like career of being praised for talent/success, then wearing out his welcome and performing poorly only to have a revival in the next city. Then the cycle will repeat itself all over again as he'll burn bridges throughout the game
  14. I was really hoping for Hawn to have a better season. Lots of time left though. As for Zarraga, I like seeing the good numbers from our converted switch-hitting catcher/dh And as for RJ Johnson, I wonder if he's still planning to play both ways.
  15. PrinceFielderx1, I'd still like to try to win this season. Read Moneyball...Beane spends the first 2-3 months assessing his weaknesses, then addresses them for the final 3-4 months. It's a long season, but fixing a hole can work. Plus, it's scary that we're not that far out of it
  16. I'd say Fiers or Thornburg. Peralta has been getting rocked, although they might be out west which is tolerable.
  17. Loretta was the forgotten Brewers star of the late 90s, and my personal favorite. we haven't really had a hitter like Loretta or Cirillo since then, which is disappointing. Yet at the time we wanted to replace them with lesser players that were more powerful. As for Loretta planning on leaving...we never had any reason to think that he would have walked in free agency over remaining a Brewer.
  18. Kind of shocking, but Arnett with his first half-way decent year. Heck, it's been pretty productive so far. Is his slider back? His velocity? It would be nice to at least salvage him as a reliever. Or perhaps they're planning to move him to the rotation once he has success and confidence
  19. Sheets was also special in that he had two great strikeout pitches. Early in his career we all raved about his curve. But as he became truly dominant it was because his velocity spiked and he started embracing throwing the high 4-seamer with 2 strikes. He got tons of K's on high fastballs.
  20. Colby, just wanted to ask if anyone from my HS was considered a draft talent (Horizon HS in Scottsdale). They're usually a top 3-4 talent in AZ and have produced a bunch of decent names lately
  21. I've never understood people who get drunk and get loud, vulgar, or violent. I get drunk and I get funnier, until I find a comfy couch to pass out on
  22. I wasn't meaning to trash Gomez. Gomez is usually ranked around the 3rd or 4th best in the majors, Morgan around the 6th or 7th best in the majors. Both occasionally get awful reads on balls but have the speed to make up for that. However, when having to run straight back on the ball, I like how Morgan seems to track down more of them. to the sides they are even or a slight edge to Gomez. Coming in on balls I like Gomez more.
  23. just looked backed at the previous drafts...that '08 draft looks brutal whereas the '07 draft still have great potential
  24. HiAndTight, it was Kato the Elder saying Delenda est Carthago (other variants exists...just gave what I teach). I like it...I'm of the same belief
  25. Morgan is a great defender in CF. He goes back on the ball amazingly well. To be honest, the only things Gomez does better are coming in on the ball and throwing. To the sides they're pretty much the same. Both are great to have As for Aoki, he's hitting well, but I worry that he has a hard time getting the ball to the OF grass on fewer than 10 hops. Morgan drives the ball much better, which is hard to believe. I do love Aoki's at bats until the ball is weakly in play and I have to hope it'll find a hole.
