  1. I'll say we out pitch the teams resulting in: Boston 2-1 TB 2-1 Mn 4-2 NYY 2-1 10-5
  2. Greinke's mistakes are getting hammered right now, but he's still in a tough spot as a pitcher throwing with April stuff against hitters in mi-season form
  3. I don't get worked up over minor things like most people. I look at the record and team effort/energy as we observe it. I give RR a B, trending upwards. I'm starting to think that the best things a manager can add to the team deal with the unmeasureable ideas of energy, optimism, leadership, etc. We saw with Yost that a fiery supportive manager can make lots of mistakes and win. We saw with Macha that poor relationships with the team and a clear lack of communication overpowered his modern ideas that emphasize ultra-conservative strategies. Perhaps RR's communication skills and energy do help encourage the players to thrive. They don't tell Weeks to get thrown out at second foolishly twice, but they encourage him to be the most exciting player that he can be.
  4. Great to see our major Latin signee with another successful inning. Pascual with 2 scoreless outings now, and 4 walkless
  5. -lefty that throws low 90's, good athlete, very respectful kid, battles his control. I've heard rumors that he has a pushy dad. Given his talent he has the potential to really thrive in college with strong coaching, being on his own (dad 4 hours away). I fear that if he struggles in the pros, he might not be mature enough to figh through it -6'7" of that has a bad back and is very immature. He's so carefree that he would be better served going to college and growing up for three years before being drafted. MLB clubs will follow his every mistake and scrutinize him if he's a pro and acts this way. If either gets offers hugely over slot, especially the pitcher, they should take it. Otherwise have fun in college for 3 years and then go pro.
  6. I hope my two former students choose to go to college. One needs maturity and one needs confidence/independence. Both were drafted in rounds 15-19
  7. TheCrew, it also could be that the curve is exactly what coaches want. They might want him to show it for strikes so that his sinker and 4-seamer can get hitters out, while you're analyzing it as a strikeout pitch. If he were to show up in his next outing burying it in the dirt on 0-2, it might look very different.
  8. I thought the catcher Javier was a pretty key member of the DSL teams. Did not see that coming
  9. TheCrew, have you ever had surgery? I never have, but I know there are inherent risks with any surgery and it's way too easy to second guess people for not having surgery. My dad has needed minor back surgery for years and he's finally going to go under the knife in August for a 15 minute procedure that should make his life better. Why? Cause it's SURGERY! As for Rogers getting claimed, at least 7 or 8 teams would take a chance on getting the kid we saw last September.
  10. CheezWizHed, I didn't mean to imply we should trade Hart anytime soon. I'm thinking that it's a possibility during the 2012-13 offseason. Even then, with Gindl, Morgan, Komatsu, and Shafer, we're awfully left-handed. So having Corey as a 115 game outfielder/DH/1b wouldn't hurt us. In fact, vs some tough lefties he could play some 1st base next year to spell Gamel.
  11. Since both are mashing right now and helping Gamel out with the left-handed offense, I was just curious what the latest on their defensive abilities is. Green was always criticized by some at 2b, but he's really split his time between 2b and 3b thus far. Either way, it'll be nice with these two up in September to bolster the bench, if not sooner
  12. I wouldn't be surprised to see it be any of Green, Kotteras, or Gamel. Kotteras would then stay up with Nieves being DFA'd to be send down (after AL games). The bigger thing is who has options? We could go to an 11-man staff by sending down someone like Dillard (unlikely since he's a multi-inning guy). Would it have to be Dillard or Estrada? I would love to see McGehee go down for 2 weeks just to get back to driving the ball. I'm not sure he can be sent down either, though.
  13. Awesome go: fo ratio for Seidel and anundsen(15:0)
  14. if he's not going to play, then I like him getting at bats now. At some point we'll need him, and I'd rather have him come in with extra confidence from game hitting than BP hitting. If it's not Gamel called up this weekend (Boston), then I'd call up Kotteras to DH. We need someone though, preferably a lefty
  15. RyDogg, I've argued this before, but in Wisconsin people are likely to say their favorite hoops team is the Badgers or Marquette (or even UWM). The Bucks are basically inferior (in terms of entertainment value) to the products people can support in UW and MU. You also nailed it that Hockey is much more entertaining for non-fans than the NBA, although both are equally over-priced. As for the MLS, Milwaukee is a huge soccer market, but I don't know if they'd pay to go watch pro soccer. The wave has a nice niche , but I'm afraid that an MLS entrant would struggle in Milwaukee.
  16. someone asked about Directv...game is on mlb channel (213) in high def or the Cards' broadcast available if you have mlb extra innings
  17. To be honest I like leaving Kotteras in AAA for now. I've always liked his at bats and offensive potential, and it's nice to see him having his best season. I'd wait and call him up perhaps to DH or after September 1st as an extra bat
  18. His curve showed a lot of break, but he wasn't burying it in the dirt. Instead, he was dropping it belt high . That's why it was described as a "hanger"
  19. Interesting that thanks to the DSL Brewers and the late surge from Nashville, our organizational winning percentage isn't that bad. The only real slackers are those Manatees
  20. Why would the Rangers-Astros rivalry make sense when all other states with 2 major somewhat local teams are located in different leagues? Of course, I long ago advocated a much more radical shift based on geography, but it messes with the AL/NL thing and most of us like having one league with a DH and one with the P: 1) NY, NY, BOS, PHIL 2) FLA, TB, ATL, Nashville?? 3) Pitt, Balt, Tor, Wash 4 and 5 (tough to arrange) Chic, Chic, Clev, Cinc, Mil, Minn, St. Louis 6) AZ, SD, LA, Ana 7) Oak, Sea, SF, Portland/Las Vegas/Salt Lake City/Calgary/Vancouver 8) Tex, Hou, Col, KC The Blue Ribbon panel from years ago actually promoted expansion, but they said the top 3 markets primed for new teams are: 1) new york, 2) new york, and 3) LA. Cities that might be able to support MLB based on other pro sports franchises or simply their size include: Nashville, Memphis, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Portland, Indianapolis, Boston, New York, and the Canadian Cities (thanks to a stronger Canadian dollar and them having perhaps the best performing economy right now...As we all see, Canadians are buying up tons of available land and homes in the US, at least where I go in Arizona and Montana)
  21. I sure wasn't taught that. In fact, I was taught you never do that as it's a terrible technique. What's more, when have you ever seen another big league 1st basemen do that? Yes, all the time. I remember first really noticing it with Richie Sexson. On throws that came lower than his waist, he would have his plant (bag) knee down so that it often got dirty. The result was that it got his arms, eyes, and balance all in a much better position to field low throws. Scooping the ball is much easier when the body is lower to the ground, and it also helped him stretch to the throws. It was then that I realized how I'd always done that naturally when I'd had to play some 1st base in emergencies growing up (perhaps it was some instinct from playing 3b, ss, 2b, and cf primarily). I see it all the time from other 1st basemen in MLB, however, since I really am only paying close attention to Prince (as a Brewers fan) I don't have names that jump out at me.
  22. sometimes it might be nice to post the DSL box scores in the following day's link report, since they get posted so late
  23. I gave him a 1 since his defense isn't up to par for A ball. His range is awful, his throwing accuracy pitiful, he never gets his knee dirty on low throws (as we're taught in little league), and he doesn't come off the bag to try to save throws that are high or off-line. The one positive I'll say is that he does have a relatively strong arm for a first baseman. I still fully expect a Canseco-like lowlight where Prince will whiff on a routine throw, causing it to hit him in the face.
  24. would be nice to get 8 from narveson, then let Dillard or Hawkins finish it
