  1. I kind of miss seeing Braddock starting games...brings back nice, exciting memories!
  2. Paul, I am disappointed, but I wouldn't say he's even our biggest disappointment. That's easily Arnett thus far. Still, a demotion from MLB to A ball worked for Halladay.... I can't believe Halladay holds the record for highest ERA in a season!
  3. I'm in the group that craves young (HS) talent. I'm tired of college players not panning out. I would focus the first 15 rounds on high school pitchers and hitters from all levels. After 15, I'm fine with a mix of players, especially college hitters. We'll need to draft 3-4 shortstops along with our usual 3-5 catchers, too.
  4. no offense, but I'm reading things terribly different from others. It's possible to be a) raw/toolsy, b) best player available, and c) signable. I don't think that these are mutually exclusive as others seem to be indicating. Remember, Prince was raw/toolsy, arguably the best player available, and quite signable.
  5. Just wanted to note that McGehee made a very nice play throwing to second on Friday night. While McGehee's range is questionable, he's the most reliable Brewers 3b in recent history on both balls down the line AND throws to 2b. In fact, there's few in MLB that I'm more comfortable with on throws to 2b. I'd love us to have a Cirillo or Loretta-type at 3b, but McGehee's just fine. I wish he were our worst defensive infielder, but instead he's arguably our best.
  6. Amazing how Periard went from spring training invite last year to disappearing off the radar. Too bad for the young Canuck...I always held out hope for him
  7. TLB, I'm thinking that Gamel projects as a better version of Overbay. If he can cut down on the K's a bit, he'll be huge for us. The Dbacks gave up on Overbay, so it shows that if you are patient, these guys can adjust.
  8. some good things today...Komatsu with another huge day. Haydel continuing his resurgence. Rosario and Aundnsen get on track. Prince up to .283...just need to remember how he used to walk a lot in Helena! Dennis with a big day. Braddock striking out all 5 hitters. It's nice to actually see some good things today
  9. Gomez is basically a 5th OF...a defensive replacement or pinch runner. He could be a starter on a very good offensive team. He's basically a very poor-man's version of Mike Cameron (he has the SLG, not the OBP...as the A's say in Moneyball, OBP is 3-4 times more important than SLG). I don't know enough about how Shafer and Komatsu profile, but basically I see the team being in position to have 1 in CF and one as the 4th OF playing probably 3-4 times a week between CF and RF. Theoretically if we were to put Gamel at 1b and deal Hart, Shafer and Komatsu could account for our 1 and 2 hitters, along with two lefties.
  10. I just wanted to point out how funny this discussion is. Roenicke was trying to change things a bit by putting a player that he perceives as superior offensively into the lineup. Kotsay is possibly a better #2 hitter than Gomez, due to OBP. The same people that used to say defense doesn't matter (it's all about OPS!) are now saying that going from Gomez to Kotsay for 1 game is going to destroy us. That's just funny. When you've got two crappy options for CF, it doesn't matter which we choose....both are crappy. Why argue over it? As for his decisions, the only thing he's done that bothers me is he's overused Loe from day 1. His baseball moves haven't been as astute as Yost's, but they're well ahead of Macha's incompetence.
  11. I'm sure they'll activate Almonte, but I'd rather it be a useful infielder like Farris or Green.
  12. I called and they said that the issue is because it's not being carried by the Extra Innings Package. The tech didn't know why they couldn't unblock channel 669-1 for us that do subscribe, but unfortunately this is how the schedule shows it.
  13. my simple, yet not-so-random thought for today: I'm going to miss one of the nicest elderly gentlemen I've ever known, Ron Siepmann.
  14. Yuni has exceeded expectations defensively, while underwhelmed offensively. At this point, it would make sense for us to try to make a point of letting Counsell play 3 times per week, twice at SS and once at 3b. Getting him some regular at bats might help his overall performance. Plus, it would give us a contact hitter at SS occasionally
  15. I disagree with those that are saying Gomez has great defensive instincts. On balls where he has to turn his back, he does a terrible job tracking and finding them. On hard hit deep drives in the gap, he does well ONLY when he doesn't have to run towards the CF fence. The moment his back faces infielders we find that he struggles in judging routes. He often takes a shallower route than necessary, although is sometimes able to make up for it and catch the ball.
  16. can we trade Kotsay for the 2000 version of him? In that case he could play CF, bat leadoff, etc
  17. I will say the "no fees" seem nice. I normally wouldn't think of changing my flights, though.
  18. endaround, I like the topic...coming from you, shouldn't this be in blue??? Seriously, I fully agree with AJAY. The teams of the 90s with Nilsson, Cirillo, Vina, and Loretta were capable of collecting 2 hits each on any night. It seems like we have a team full of Jose Valentin's or Jeromy Burnitz's. We could use a couple of hitters in the mold of those guys...plus, they were all (except Nilsson) plus defenders.
  19. ....except Badgerfan, the market's doing much better than the Brewers' offense
  20. check out the picture of Prince on Jsonline.com. Shouldn't his left leg and arm be pointing in the same direction? In the past, people have pointed out that a flaw is that he steps long before he knows the path of the ball...this pic seems to confirm it. It might have been an out this time, but it would explain why so many seemingly routine plays are out of reach for him....terrible footwork
  21. Check out AJ Burnett's. Wasn't that like 9 walks, 130 pitches AFTER just coming off the DL for arm problems?
  22. I fly out of Phoenix, and it's always comparably priced. I'd much rather have a seat assignment. If I'm flying somewhere USAirways doesn't go, I fly Delta since I get free upgrades, fly convenient regional jets, and the bags are also free (although the only bag I ever bring is my golf clubs...the rest can travel in the cabin). Back to the point...I think this merger may not be good for the airline industry and consumers. Plus, I'll miss the Airtran commercials, even though I've never flown them. The hot tubs on an airplane commercial was classic
  23. I'd love to add him. He behaved and played well in Milwaukee, and he's friends with at least Weeks. Throw in that he'd have a pretty clear role (backup), that it'd make lots of sense.
