  1. If Lucroy has to be added to the 40-man after the season, I'd add him in September and call both him and Salome up. At the Brewers current pace, they know what they have in Kendall and Rivera, but need to learn what they have in Salome and Lucroy. A few starts each, and they can not only see how they hit, but get pitcher feedback regarding their poise. I still would be tempted to let both split time next year. The only reason not to is because of arby clocks. But I would compare it to how Snyder and Montero split time with the Dbacks until Montero's offense clearly surpassed Snyder's.
  2. McGehee reminds me of a Keith Ginter or Shea Hillebrand in that when he makes contact, it's often hit very hard. But he doesn't draw a lot of walks. He's a solid player, but not great. In September, he'd better not take any at bats from Gamel. McGehee's role may be as a great super-sub where he can play 4 days a week without a huge dropoff between 3b, 2b, PH, and--yes, to make Clancy happy--catcher
  3. I watch, but I'm not enjoying it. They had one good stretch of around 30 games this season. Last year's team was competitive night in and night out. Up until mid-July, it was basically the same team, yet was far behind last year's squad. The differences: -Yovanni as ace instead of Sheets -Parra sent to minors instead of Bush -McClung/Villy as failed starters replacing Villy alone as failed starter -Looper pitching below past performance -bullpen has been unreliable without Shouse and Torres -Weeks got hurt but the combo of 5 good weeks along with McGehee/Counsell/Lopez at 2b has been far better than just Weeks in '08 -McGehee at 3b has been better than Bill Hall. 3b last year was a black hole if you take out the 3-4 weeks Branyan saw somewhat regular playing time. -Hardy went from having a bad April-June to having an abysmal April-August, and he still is allergic to going to rightfield -Prince learned to play passable defense and improved his pitch selectivity -Hart/Catalanotto should be about the same as just Hart.
  4. closetbrewerfan, I believe Axford was released by another organization. Therefore he is elligible for free agency or the Rule V draft even if he re-signed
  5. I'd expect Rivas and Jones to be added, but not Cody. Heether I could go either way on, as I am currently content with Weeks, McGehee, Hardy, Escobar, Lopez, Counsell, Iribarren, Gamel, etc for the 2b/3b/ss spots. I'd like to keep him, just not sure he's worth a 40-man spot given our depth.
  6. I believe Curt Schilling once claimed to throw a CGSO with nothing but fastballs. But that's still pretty crazy
  7. mlb.com says that all 3 signed to 2010 contracts
  8. Ben was one of the Brewers' best free agent signings in my mind. It's interesting, because it didn't come out until later that the Brewers signed him in part because of limited interest throughout the league because of a partially torn rotator cuff. Eventually it completely went out on him. He had really solid stuff though.
  9. Endaround was right. The Dbacks insisted in mid-July that they wanted to extend Davis. It sounds like they want to extend him for 1 year, 2 at most. Davis is viewing this as his last big contract and likely wants around 3 years $27-33 million to set himself up for life. The Dbacks should look at 3 years, but if they try one or two, Davis will want more cash. I hope a deal gets done, as the Brewers would then have a chance to extend him
  10. When we acquired him, some on this board said he was ridiculed for his defense. However, I'd been impressed until recently as he's shown great hands, an accurate arm, and good range. He's made some plays easily that Weeks couldn't have made until 2009 (if then)
  11. When in Milwaukee in mid July, I sat next to a guy from Fresno who was on a tour of midwest stadiums with his mom. The previous day they'd been to both Chicago stadiums. He came back grumbling, because he was in line and the moment the inning started, they stopped selling beer as per MLB rules. He said that in Wrigley they didn't start "last call" until that point in the game, and proceeded to sell beer for another inning. Remember, when Bill Spiers was attacked in Milwaukee, it was a fan from Chicago! When the coaches were attacked on the first base line, it was in Chicago. I know it's a broad generalization, but IDIOTS!
  12. hammytime...what district? I'm Paradise Valley Unified
  13. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for Jones to be up in September. If the Brewers are interested in him next year, they'll need to re-add him to the 40 man roster, as he'd surely be a good project in the Rule V draft.
  14. Good to see Rogers and Jones throwing well again. Jones was the victim of strategy as they went for the gidp and allowed a run to score. The next inning they "singled" him to death
  15. so 1992casey, I assume while at work (a school) I cannot view brewerfan in its prettiest form then?
  16. I know I have a bit of a different perspective on backup types or role players. I don't really pay attention to OPS for SS, 2b, CF, and C. It's great to have a good OPS, but I instead look for OBP out of those spots. So for me, guys like Farris or Iribarren could one day be starters.
  17. they should just offer a former high pick like Dykstra or Frederickson. Those are two expendable "2nd round"-type picks.
  18. We reported today in my district in AZ...well, I had my mentoring program last Friday followed by a 4 day weekend thanks to our work furlough. So today was sort of my report date. kids enter the classrooms on Monday. I'm ready, because I'm no longer sick of kids. Wait till Feb, though, and things will change
  19. TheCrew07, still thinking that highly of Dykstra? I haven't seen him play, but he's ranking near Josh Murray and Shane Hill on my list of disappointments thus far. And you forgot Braddock and Rogers...I guess you did say off the top of your head though
  20. The Hurricane rates that highly at 2b defensively? I guess I assumed he wasn't ranked that highly since they tried him for a year in CF.
  21. As LouisEly was sort of saying, I believe some rookies are better served being slowly broken in, as they aren't over-exposed. Additionally with Salome, it might give him time to work on all facets of his game.
  22. hey folks, my dad wanted me to look into a piece of cardio equipment for his new house. It's got a small area for a home gym setup. I'd like to put one piece of equipment in it. He's seen the Bowflex Treadclimber infomercials and is convinced that is what he should get. He is weary of ellipticals because he doesn't like the hand poles that move (remind him of uncomfortable 1980s Nordictrack ski-machines). I suggested a similar-sized elliptical called the Nordictrack ACT. Both have small footprints and have a low impact. Has anyone tried (or known of someone who has tried) either machine? I get nervous with the Bowflex equipment because the reviews I've found are very hit-or-miss.
  23. I'd have one of them be the big league backup and playing around 40% of the time. I would also consider letting them both be on the roster to split time, much as how the Dbacks broke in both Snyder and Montero.
  24. The Brewers have tended to view AAA as a necessary stepping stone to the big leagues, whereas other organizations (like FLA, for example) tend to call up the best pitcher from AA/AAA.
  25. Mass, I clicked on the MLB scouting video link (within the link you provided), and beginning on the pitches at around the 18 second mark, you see an insane amount of lateral movement on his pitches. His 2-seamer rides away from lefties almost like an extreme power screwball.
