Not only did Jones throw 7 innings, but both runs came in the 7th. So Either way (6 shutout or 7 with 2 ER) this was a great outing. He's become quite the GB pitcher, too. Last year he amazingly started the year in a rotation, a mere 9-10 months after Tommy John surgery. His rate of hits allowed is similar to last year, but the difference is the lack of walks (2008: 59BB in 75 IP; 2009: 6BB in 22 IP). Mike is now several years removed from his last shoulder surgery, so the shoulder likely feels as good as it has in years. The elbow is likely also feeling as good as it has in at least 2 years. It's not too late for him, as guys like Carl Pavano, Jaret Wright, Jeff D'Amico, etc had some good years after a bunch of injuries. Mike just turned 26, so this could be positive for him. However, I'd really love to see how his velocity and movement are these days. If he can get that velocity to around 88-90, get groundballs, and continue to improve his command, he could have a future. Although those are three big if's for him.
