  1. I'd rather have Willis than Suppan. Willis has potential, and plus maybe he can thrive off of sticking it to the Cubs
  2. Hardy's range is adequate, mainly because he is often well-positioned and also because he gets great jumps on balls. His instincts and reactions are very good. Plus his arm is very strong and very accurate, and he's got a great transfer from glove to throwing hand. So while his range isn't above average, he does so many things well that it makes him above average.
  3. Russ, he may have always been clueless. But at least there were occasional glimpses that he was getting better. Last year we saw him butcher so many plays that are routine for guys like Pujols, Lee, etc. These are plays that Overbay and Sexson made frequently. He may not have gotten worse, he just seemed to stop progressing and flashing occasional great plays.
  4. Become a teacher....you sleep REALLY well. The only drawback is that during your workday, you don't get to do half your job (paperwork, planning, grading, constant meetings).
  5. Russ, I was always a Fielder supporter, claiming that he had surprising agility and defensive range. In April and May we saw him repeatedly make several mistakes that hadn't been as prevalent in recent years, although perhaps due to fewer of these types of chances: 1) Routine 1-hop throws that he whiffed on. 2) We saw him range towards second to try to field balls only to realize there was nobody at first because he'd cut off his 2nd baseman. 3) balls hit to him that he showed indecisiveness with. Some included waiving off his pitcher, then gesturing for the pitcher to cover, then ultimately sprinting to the bag (see the Gallardo knee injury). Too often he'd say that he'd take it himself but lazily move towards first, only to find he was saved by the pitcher covering or the fear that runners had of crashing into him 4) his inability to bend over. Richie Sexson frequently got his right knee dirty because he was getting so low to the ground to field low throws. Prince never had chances on many do to his poor body shape/flexibility. I stand by my prediction from June that one day we'll see Fielder on the highlight/lowlight reels with Canseco. Jose gets hit in the head on the 4-base error, Fielder gets hit in the face on a routine throw from his 3rd baseman.
  6. I just don't like the idea of a FM radio station without on-air personalities. I have satellite radio and internet radio for that. Ewizabeff, I actually felt XM radio felt too much like an MP3 player and was glad when they added radio hosts a few years back. It sounded less hollow, fake, and computer-generated.
  7. ...Kind of like when Sal Bando took Grissom off the Indians hands to free up cash on their part to sign Lofton. Except the Indians signed Kenny Lofton before the Brewers traded for Marquis Grissom. Ironic since the Brewers offered more money to Lofton than the Indians.
  8. X ellence, to support Perez, as he was on the last Fall League squad I worked with. He's the best CF I've ever seen in person. I think he compares with what Cameron was in his prime. Plus, he's extremely smart for a ballplayer. While many went to college or JuCo just to play ball, he went to Columbia University. Hard worker, too
  9. That's just what I've heard from sources....it could be wrong.
  10. To me it is a lowball offer. It's a fair offer, but it also is a starting point. If CC wants to stay, they'll negotiate higher if need be. But it's in CC's hands now
  11. Haudricourt has made reference to that a number of times throughout the year, citing that as the number. I knew that in Spring Training supposedly he had a sizeable offer on the table that even Boras had approved (given his lack of years of experience, and distance to free agency), but Fielder turned it down citing wanting more money. Then a week later the Brewers renewed his contract and Prince was angry.
  12. Adam, you need either a state issued drivers license or non-drivers' license ID. I was always taught that state law says that once 18, you must have ID on you at all times
  13. Colby, could Nelson be an option for a RF platoon, with Irribarren in one at 2b?
  14. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/ev...winterleagues/?league=car\ includes a nice pic and mention of Brendan Katin's big day
  15. actually Hauser, my source with the club has said Sheets was hurting back in early July. So when we all saw his curve lose some effectiveness in June, July, Aug, and Sept, it would make sense that he was likely bothered by it then, but told it likely wouldn't get worse
  16. Personally, I've never thought much of Affeldt. He's like Schoenweis...so much talent, just a bad pitcher. As for Marte, he's been a stud for years, so I'd love to add him
  17. MLBtraderumors.com is reporting that Steve Moss has been signed by the Mariners. Link to Seattle paper -- the subsequent link mentioned in the link is dead, but contents printed below.
  18. I still want no part in Salty until I hear he's changed as a person. His teammates telling him that they wanted no part of him in the AFL really soured me on the guy.
  19. Why is it that Benny is the only pitcher I've heard of to tear not one, but two muscles? Most tear labrums, rotator cuffs, UCL's, but I guess he at least tears things that can be fixed without surgery
  20. Fielder is a fit for Fenway, as the BoSox always seem to get the most out of the VERY overweight, poor defensive, lefty hitting 1b.
  21. To note, mlbtraderumors.com has a comment about projected Type A/B free agents. For the Brewers, they list: A- Sabathia, Sheets B- Cameron, Torres, Gagne, Shouse We have never figured out if a team can decline and option and still offer arbitration, thus getting draft pick compensation. My understanding is that if the Brewers decline Cameron's option, he is not automatically a free agent. He would still be Brewers' property until either he was not offered arbitration or until he filed for free agency. According to my understanding, the Brewers could offer arbitration to Cameron and Torres even if they decline the options.
  22. Rickie has the speed but he has slow reactions when fielding and is the reason why he is always putting himself in bad spots to catch the ball. Plus he is also indecisive. I only used speed and reaction for Salome because the other things don't really matter if he can't get to the ball. Jeff Kent and Carlos Baerga had nice careers and were solid defensively, and both were quite possibly the slowest men in the majors for much of their careers
  23. I really don't care. I wanted Jenkins out of Milwaukee for several seasons, so I have no connection to him anymore. I'm happier for Howard.
  24. Colby, what about just dealing Prince for a package that includes LaPorta, giving us our 1b?
  25. Jackson's velocity and "stuff" appear back at full strength. I was impressed.
