  1. When the trade happened, ESPN or Foxsports.com (one of the outlets) said that he was not the kind of person to seek the spotlights of the coast, but rather might enjoy playing in the middle of the country
  2. personally, I think we have a better shot at signing Sabathia. I've read he's not a "coast"-type person. He wants to hit. And it probably can't hurt that the Brewers have one of the more African-American friendly clubhouses. I hate to bring up race, but it's a fact that most people prefer being places they are comfortable. With Sheets, we know he wants money, and we know he probably doesn't want to hit.
  3. last thursday they had two items. They had something that sold out, then it showed a camera, then they went back to the first item . So it seemed they had a server issue and postponed it
  4. I don't think I've ever agreed with Haudricourt this much. Weeks should be in AAA. Right now, he's the next Corey Patterson. He has a chance to be a Brandon Phillips, but it's highly unlikely.
  5. Shane Hill is my new Periard and Garrison...youngsters with talent. But why oh why can't he throw strikes?
  6. not to jinx anything, but does Lawrie ever go more than a game or two without homering?
  7. Hardy's arm angle would work well at 3rd. Jose Hernandez struggled because he loved side-arm throws and those tail away from the 1st baseman too much. But Hardy's arm slot would likely be very accurate at 3b. With his arm strength he could also play a little fairly deep at 3b. His hands and glove are so good that they'd allow him to get to many balls
  8. JJ's turnaround has been incredible, not just because it seemed very unlikely, but also because Bill Schroeder has correctly explained the reasons for it. JJ always declared he was a dead pull hitter. In 2007, his homers went to left field along with the vast majority of his hits. When teams started working him off the plate away, he struggled, hence why his 2nd half wasn't as strong. But in the last 2 months JJ has learned not only to go to right field, but to embrace it. He's distributing hits all over the field. Although last night his grounder up the middle had me wondering "what happened to the races in 2007 when JJ tied as our fastest runner?"
  9. Pascual with more K's than BB...that's a step in the right direction
  10. RockCoCougars, Washburn has been--as expected--solid for the M's. It can be expected his ERA would drop at least 1/4 of a run, which means that he'd be a 4.00-4.40 ERA pitcher, which is basically like Suppan.
  11. Mass, Periard is now in AA and likely starting tomorrow
  12. To me it's not only about the rules of the game, but it's also about the unwritten rules of the game--the courtesies. For example, in a bean ball war in the NL, you don't throw at the pitcher. In golf, it'd be that you wear a collared shirt, tuck it in, and your hat--if wearing one--should be worn in a normal forward-facing fashion. While playing you should play "ready golf." Nothing peaves serious golfers more than when playing with a poor golfer, the poor golfer comes off with some attitude you MUST play farthest-from-the hole first.
  13. iHARTbrewCREW, I got a job in my first summer looking in Social Studies here in Arizona. At the time, my district posted about 6 Social Studies jobs at the last minute in July '07 and I got one of them. I had a number of other offers here, especially in early August. If you want to consider Arizona, be mindful of the early start date for school. For instance, I report to work next week Thursday.
  14. Arizona drivers seconded. In case you guys don't know, AZ doesn't require you to renew your license every few years. For example, my license does not expire until 2034. So you've got thousands of people driving in the state who probably would flunk the test in any other state. pitchleague, mine goes til 2046, as I'm sure that licenses here are good until someone is 65. It's funny, cause in other states they look at it and think "wait, nice forgery...you forgot to make the date realistic"
  15. What I like about CoCo--and something that we're missing--is that he could strike out guys. It hurts that late in the game sometimes we simply can't get the key strikeout with men in scoring position
  16. In Arizona there are a few that I can't stand. Lots of people turn from cross-streets into the turn lane (aka, suicide lane) on major roads, and will drive for 1/2 a mile in it at 15 mph, waiting and checking their side mirrors to see if someone will let them in. I hate it, cause when they're driving at me, I always seem to want to head into the turn lane to use it for a turn. I hate how nobody uses turn signals. I hate how old people in North Scottsdale drive 30-35 on roads that are 45-55 mph, just because back east they'd never see a road with that high of speed limits. I have been driven crazy lately with, as Menotti said, people that do not pull out into intersections while in the left turn lane.
  17. In the offseason I'd do Hall for LaRoche, as we're talking about a potential .270 avg, 20 hr, .360 obp guy. He's got a "bad body", but he's a good team player
  18. The Brewers have signed three (3) additional players from the 2008 June First-Year Player Draft. These signings include RHP Blake Billings (19th round selection) from Hillcrest (AL) High School, RHP Bobby McEwen (free agent) from Gonzaga University and INF Steve Braun (free agent) from the University of Maryland. Steve Braun is the brother of Brewers OF Ryan Braun. from Brewers press release
  19. Screw it...just let Sabathia close it out!
  20. man Rickie...field the darn ball! neither was a throwing problem...both were glove problems
  21. Also, my advice is to let yourself shine. I went into my interviews and was very relaxed, and just spoke about who I was, what I believe in, and what I want to achieve. I flat out said that my first years of teaching would be a struggle, but that I planned on persevering thanks to a strong upbringing and the support of the school community. I spoke of my desire to coach. Really, schools want to get to know you as a person, because they want to know if they can work with you. Catch phrases (rigor, multiple intelligences, etc) are all nice, but they don't help sell YOU as a person.
  22. I think to Yost, Rickie is fine because he's making progress. I sometimes wonder if we'd see more progress with him hitting 6th where he could let it rip (like his first half season). But still, Rickie's numbers would be so much better if his average would climb to the .250-250 range. Yet looking at his splits this year, he hasn't had a decent month in terms of average or obp.
  23. I won't look at individual salaries for Suppan. I'll look at his entire contract, and his average salary is the key. Sure in two years his contract might be inflated, but for two years we paid him far below his market price.
  24. Periard might just be our #2 pitching prospect right now. He's also a lesson for the Dominicans as to why we shouldn't grow too impatient. He seemed to take a long time to develop, as he was drafted at 17.
