  1. also, what about Shane Hill? He was a sleeper of mine, just like Garrison had been
  2. at this point with Hall being the super-sub again, it'd be more likely that Crabbe would be called up, not Escobar. Although, it'd be nice to have the defense
  3. I've thought about this before. I wouldn't advocate your plan, but suggest a slightly modified one. Say a starter starts on Monday, I'd consider DH'ing him on Tues, Wed, and Thurs. I like the idea of increasing your expected return on a huge investment by letting a player specialize in one aspect of the game (hitting or pitching) while dabbling in the other. I think of how Van Benschoten could have been a stud hitter, but by not hitting for a few years, the holes in his swing have grown. He likely will never thrive as a pitcher now, thanks to his shoulder injuries, but he also has lost significant time developing his swing.
  4. kramnoj, I think you mean Matt Harrington
  5. in the Brewers' press release today they list 20 signings, Luetge is not one of them
  6. Their dealings with Lucroy may also have a lot to do with their catching depth. In other words, if Salome gets promoted to AAA soon, Lucroy may jump to AA with perhaps Fryer resuming his natural position in West Virginia.
  7. I could see Brantley to AAA due to the defensive flexibility, his improving slg, and his outstanding batting eye. Theoretically, if Cameron struggles, and Weeks puts up iffy leadoff numbers, he'd be a possibility come August
  8. I'm pleased with LaPorta, because he's on pace to shatter what Fielder, Hardy, Hart, Braun, etc all did in AA. Of course Brantley, Gamel, Escobar, and Salome are blowing away those numbers, too.
  9. Amazing: same as uwisfan's "good" list, only add Gillespie, Brantley, and LaPorta Good: Hammond, Fryer, Lucroy, Braddock, Ramlow, Derek Miller, Rivas, Aguilar disappointing: the BC offense, Brent Brewer, Caleb Gindl (heated up lately though),
  10. hey folks, I simply backup all my photos to a backup hard drive. My mom recently went to Italy, and now I'm transfering her photos to her computer. She remembers a few years back when I lost around 500 pictures due to a hard drive crash. Are there any sites that--for a low cost--make it easy to store pictures and also to send them to a service, like Walgreens, to print? She has a photo printer, but doesn't like the way the ink smears when you barely touch them, and prefers photo labs at places like Walgreens handling the pictures.
  11. Has anyone else noticed how well this last DFE has been doing? Since switching to the pen/long relief spot, he's really taken off. His numbers are awesome, especially K:BB ratio. I wonder if he's figuring it out, or just trusting his stuff. Sounds like a final solid lefty we got in the DFE process
  12. Also, with no DFE, this is interesting to see so many pitchers. Looks like we'll be piggy-backing a lot of guys, and it puts pressure on all of West Virginia's staff.
  13. I just spoke with a former Santa Clara Athletics Dept employee and he says that Willinsky throws gas, but hittable gas. He throws low 90s, maybe harder, but that usually when someone makes contact, it goes a long way. Also, said he was inelligible for his soph season due to a team infraction. Perhaps it was alcohol, perhaps academics. My friend couldn't remember.
  14. Hey Mass, do we have a startup date for the Pioneer league? I'd estimate around June 18th or 20th. Looking forward to the jam packed link reports
  15. jjfanec, Braddock's only problem last year was his arm staying healthy
  16. The can keep Sheets no matter what. Increases in revenue (especially the TV ratings glitch), along with their bullpen having roughly $25 million in expiring contracts makes it quite possible
  17. Joe, they said the same thing about some guy named Verlander, too, and he's found pretty good control. His mechanics look a mess, as his leg-kick throws his whole motion off. IF they can tone down the excess movement, he'll do fine
  18. i click on draft tracker, and I supposedly don't have access to the ability to add the java tool to use the tracker
  19. XM 186 has analysis, xm 188 has the draft live
  20. XM 186 has analysis, xm 188 has the draft live
  21. one thing to note is that if you're going on prospect handbooks of years past, Corey Patterson and Alex Escobar are annually among the league MVP vote leaders while Toe Nash is an all-star pitcher AND hitter. Sorry, just adding some sarcasm there. I guess my comment Joe is to realize that it's easy to be enamored with players and overhype certain skills. We've all made mistakes with mis-using words to describe players.
  22. Brian, in order to sustain the annual high demand for brewerfan.net draft coverage, what kind of plans are in place? For instance, are you unleashing massive cyber-attacks on espn.com, irs.gov (for people curious about their checks), and porn sites in order to free up worldwide bandwidth necessary to keep brewerfan.net from crashing?
  23. I think I'll chime in. I would love a high school arm. I'd love a college arm. But I'd also love a bunch of bats. We have 9 picks before the 6th round, so I'd expect us to have at least 4 pitchers, 1 catcher, 1 3b, and some SS/1b/OF.
  24. I'll be teaching summer school tomorrow (over half way done with it!), so I should be able to stroll by my computer at work
  25. Joe, maybe we're watching different players. But JJ is perhaps the smoothest shortstop I've seen since Vizquel's prime. Does he have great range? no. But of recent Brewers shortstops, he's the only one I've actually WANTED the ball hit to in the 9th inning. That includes Jose Valentin, Mark Loretta, Craig Counsell, Jose Hernandez, Bill Hall, etc. Actually, I liked Loretta and Counsell, too, cause while they weren't great, you knew you could count on them. Hardy gets to balls through good judgement and good reads. His arm is strong and accurate. Is he great? no. But he's everything I want in a Shortstop defensively. When we praise Escobar, it's because most of us have seen him make all the routine plays look boring, just as Hardy does. Only he possesses the ability to make the fantastic play. So it's like somehow combining Hall's ability with Hardy's trustworthiness.
