  1. Santos is likely the worst starter I've ever seen at the plate.
  2. Would putting Wes Helms behind the plate be such a bad idea? Clancy, if I were to experiment with it, I'd rather try Branyan. Think Matt Nokes, Tettleton, Parrish, etc. You know, the catchers of the 80s. I'm not saying he CAN catch, or would be good at it. But I have a feeling people aren't tried at catcher as much as we all think. Most people think "if a guy could catch, he would be catching" but I question that since the supply of American catchers is falling
  3. When Branyan gets back, who sits? Clancy, I've thought this too, but we don't have to figure it out for awhile, since he's out indefinitely (according to a report on the team's site, I think)
  4. yeah, too bad Mass. Perhaps we should file away the outing for Anderson and add them to his player profile independently of the stats that minorleaguebaseball.com provides
  5. shelmark, it's one game. Contrary to the beliefs of some fans, true starters in the big leagues don't play 162 games...they rarely play 140
  6. Prince also likely has seen Williams several times this year, so it's setting him up for success
  7. normally I don't make these kinds of comments, but I would have put Santana in for Overbay, thus allowing Fielder to bat in the 8th/9th
  8. The count was 2-2 and Maddux threw what looked like a strike, but was called a ball. I thought Maddux threw one strike, the one on the outer half that Miller fouled off. The others looked like strikes, but on replay were a good 2-3" off the plate...Blanco made them look good initially
  9. wow, don't think Brady even got his glove on that one
  10. Maddux had to throw 2 extra strikes and he still got Miller out. what do you mean? I counted one strike thrown to Miller.
  11. I'd assume it's to provide some balance throughout the lineup.
  12. I've often disagreed with Toby, but it's completely unfair to criticize him. He puts a lot of work into this whole process, and deserves praise. How many people would know of all 50 if not for him pimping them? I think if we had 5 people develop a power 50, we'd find that there would be some variance, but for the most part they'd be similar.
  13. nope, hard to miss Jenkins. He's what, 0-23 now. And he's 0-16 w/8 K's in his career vs Nomo (the Bottom Line kept listing that stat all day)
  14. confirmation of Capellan to the pen for now...JSonline LINK
  15. Just saw the game (taped it). Prince looked much better in his last at bat when he saw a steady diet of heaters. My prediction is tomorrow he has a 2-hit game. As for Weeks, he's just hitting well and making adjustments. Tomorrow I think he'll get a double. I'm kind of surprised he hasn't tried stealing yet. So what about Jenks? Can we justify hitting him after Fielder? I wish Helms or Hall were competent in the OF (and not an emergency option), because I'd like to find a way to get both of them in the lineup along with Hardy, Weeks, and Overbay
  16. Capellan had been doing well in the rotation. Wonder if the pen is beat up and they wanted him to do his side work in the game, if he's in the pen to work on things, or he's in the pen for the long haul. Still, 2 innings and 3 K's is better than what he'd been doing as a starter. Also interesting given the comment recently that Melvin had instructed Nichols to beef up Capellan's workload
  17. I'd have Braun in the teens for a simple reason--he hasn't done decently in AA. The advantage Krynzel has over him is that David plays a position where if he hits .250 with a decent amount of walks, he'll have a 10-15 year big league career. Braun doesn't have that luxury as not many guys are paid to be like David Bell...gritty leaders with some power as their only tool.
  18. I'd put him 14th as of now, with Yo sliding up and Nelson falling behind him. But, he'll have to have a good half season to remain that high
  19. With Hernan nearing .320, I think we can safely say that it's Hurricane season folks
  20. And Geoff "POS" Jenkins AGAIN strikes out. ThePurpleStorm, why'd you have to go there? Unless I'm gravely mistaken, you're simply trying to hide the vulgarities. Just say he's terrible or he sucks or he can go to Hell, no need to do that.
  21. What's wrong with Cirillo? How long will he be out? the brewers' site is quoting Cirillo as saying he should be back on Friday.
  22. yeah, they could be like Ryan Howard '04, or Dallas McPherson
  23. Lidle is still the same pitcher that Brewerfan.net users have wanted us to acquire for 3 years now. He's the kind of pitcher that's always given us fits. So I don't have a problem really. I mean, our current lineup features Jenkins (like I pointed out, has comparable stats to Kearns and Giambi this year) in a prominant role, Hall (great tools, few results prior to this year), 2 rookies, a slumping Brady Clark, and a slumping Overbay. It's sad, but Moeller was our second hottest hitter entering the game
  24. Murray and Brady both over the Uecker Line!
  25. Fielder lobbying for that callup with 2 hr and 3 rbi through 5 innings today
