  1. this ump's strikezone looks very erratic
  2. Branyan probably profiles better against Carpenter and Marquis. Carpenter was never any good until he somehow managed to turn it around in the NL. Marquis is a hard-thrower with great movement. But neither rely on command like Suppan, so they seem more likely to serve one up
  3. I'm with bigjase, this is the beginning of the Carlos we saw in Spring Training. He's going to rise up against the Mighty Cards and do his best Vlads/Pujols impersonation. also, would be nice to see Clark and Jenkins continue to heat up after slow starts at the plate. And Spivey, well, he's been either 0-4 w/3 K's or 3-5 with a couple of clutch hits
  4. I would shoot for 25k Friday night, 18k Sat, 28k Sunday. There's always something about Sunday day games
  5. But think about it. When was the last time we could say THAT? The Pirates have consistantly crushed us in recent years. Throw in that our schedules the last three April's have been somewhere between difficult and impossible, and this is a relief.
  6. Wow, there's some excitement on the boards. Things were lagging a bit the other day, but at 5-3 we're halfway done with one page in this thread, and we have 8 hours till gametime
  7. Baseball games are like movies, except something exciting happens at every ballgame. Throw in that you can converse during the slow parts of a ballgame, but will be scolded if you talk during a slow part of a movie. And, of course, there's beer and sausages at ballparks
  8. Escobar scored the final run of the game later in the inning, when Grant Richardson reached first base on a dropped third strike how does this happen? Alert baserunning or simply oblivious defenders?
  9. Mass, how about keeping somewhere a list (maybe pinned to the top) where we nominate best offensive and pitching performances of the year. Either that, or it at least would highlight the outstanding performances.
  10. I for one was thrilled to see they'd be trying Dillard as a starter. Good to see some early results, too
  11. Another great outing by a starter. Not great to watch, but great on paper. Now we just need our 3-4-5 hitters to get going. Seems like Brady or Spivey is dead on each game, but then behind them there hasn't been much until Miller and Branyan. I think Lee's due for a bustout series, and when that happens, the hit parade will begin. Another huge factor is Jenkins swinging better. I'm always a critic of Jenkins, but I do enjoy him when he's taking a good approach. It's almost like he's a bipolar performer...all-star vs guy who can't make it out of AA.
  12. so if Obermueller gets out of this, does he bat for himself or Cirillo?
  13. come on Damien, get on, then let Russell do his job
  14. wow, Ueck didn't sound too excited, then he jumped on it and it kept carrying
  15. Just release Helms and purchase Scarborough's contract. I can see that. More likely is they'll wait to make a move till mid-May. Figure after about 30-40 games, teams will have better evaluated where they need to make changes. Some team might be willing to swap then
  16. gameday audio has had commercials for me all season so far
  17. that's really too bad for Mike. It's the reason I was very concerned. I feel alright when I hear elbow injury, but when I hear shoulder it makes me cringe.
  18. Nuke at least had gotten to Milwaukee before the trouble started. of course, we found out that was because he was hiding the injury from the training staff.
  19. I just asked the question because it shows he's hit into a bit of bad luck so far. And it's not like he's been overmatched and unable to even make contact
  20. Pop Quiz (no looking this up)...of the 8 Brewers with at least 10 at bats (that's the usual 8 starters, not Cirillo or Hall), who has the fewest strikeouts? edit: He's also one of 2 starters with more walks than strikeouts. Cirillo is the third member of the Crew with more walks than strikeouts
  21. Hard to start Hall the day after Hardy is robbed of a jack. However, Billy deserves to play 1-2 times a week to rest JJ and allow himself the opportunity to show he's learning to make adjustments
  22. My prediction....Hall, Branyan, Miller, Lee, and Spivey all have multi-hit games as the Crew wins 8-1
  23. opinion it's not a bad thing to have the threat of a stolen base by Clark/Spivey with the 3-5 guys coming up. to add to your comment, baserunners on the move can often lead to mistake pitches....hanging breaking balls and fat fastballs. I think a lot of the caught stealings have been botched hit-and-runs. Anyone who was at the spring training games saw the Crew hit-and-run 2-4 times each game, usually effectively.
  24. It's one thing to bunt for a base hit, it's another thing to do a sacrifice bunt, which that clearly was. At the time it was 3-2. The goal was to get the runner to scoring position so a single from Overbay or Lee would tie the game. Then you worry about the winning run. Apparently they didn't want Clark to try to steal second, so they were willing to give up an out to get that runner to scoring position. The problem occured when Spivey botched it. That got Clark out, but they still needed to get the runner to scoring position. So Spivey then had to attone for his mistake by stealing the bag. All in all, this seemed to kill all momentum, but I would assume that's the logic behind it.
