  1. wow, first Ned listens to someone about putting Miller 2nd (just proposed by someone the other day) and flips Jenks and Overbay. Now today he's listening to my suggestion w/Hardy.
  2. What I love about today is that it's kind of reassuring. I mean, I know that on the next three Link Reports I'm going to see an exciting AAA prospect. Throw in Villanueva, Ben the groundball machine, and someone like Rogers, and this is another tasty day
  3. Al and BSCR, Nelson was supposed to throw in the 90s in HS, so I assume his arm is no problem. From what I saw in spring training, he's what I would call a momentum runner. Some guys can have a terrible first step and still kick it into gear. Brad Nelson is a guy who needs to learn a first step. Once again, I'd say this is like Jenkins or Lee. When Geoff or Carlos get a good read, they get to the ball, but if they don't get a good read, they has virtually no speed to make up for a mistake. So at times they can appear to cover a ton of ground, but at other times they can appear to have poor-to-terrible range.
  4. I wouldn't expect this postponed. Bay Area weather is very odd. I remember one day walking to class and it was 75 and sunny. During class it was absolutely pissing outside. Once over, I walked to my other class in 65 and sunny conditions. During that class it absolutely pissed. Then after class it was nice 80 and sunny. It was like having 5 weather systems in about 2 hours!. Some days the systems just come flying in off the ocean at a great speed. Of course ,others systems just stall. One year we had a Seattle-like stretch where it rained 50 of 60 days, and not cool rain, but just a constant depressing mist. With the radar that rain-free, I'd be tempted to think they'll play this game unless things take a turn for the worse
  5. Any other Bay Area brewerfans here? I'll be going to the game tonight. used to be when I was in school there. Graduated in '03 though.
  6. wow, Taubenheim with 3-0 record, BC only has 5 wins!
  7. yeah, nice to see Overbay and Jenkins do better over the last few games (Jenks was heating up before getting sick). Lee with two hits tonight, and Clark still on fire. And we get the Muscle back this weekend. Now we just need to string hits together
  8. Why does Andy Pratt have a job? Gotta figure it's a competition as to who gets released to make room for the first Huntsville starter. Of course, we could just promote two kids, and release both Pratt and Helling
  9. although Reuter always pitches against the Crew like he did when he won his first 13 or so big league decisions.
  10. once again, the pitching matchup appears against us. Then throw in that they have the better lineup, and I'd say our chances of winning are about 35%. Do we at least get to miss out on Jason Schmidt next series?
  11. batman, I'm not sure what to say. I mean, did my eyes deceive me or did Mr. Plate Discipline, Cirillo, go 0-3 seeing a total of 3 pitches? This is a guy who works the count. Still, it's not like we're getting beaten by crappy pitchers. We've beaten Oliver Perez, Kip Wells (twice), Kerry Wood, and Josh Fogg. We've lost in games started by Zambrano, Maddux, Redman, Suppan, Carpenter, Marquis, Odalis Perez, Dessens, and Oswalt. So looking at the elite pitchers we've faced (this is subjective, but I'll say guys Doug Davis caliber or better)--that's Oliver Perez, Kip Wells, Kerry Wood, Carlos Zambrano, Redman, Marquis, Odalis Perez, and Oswalt)--we're 4-5. As for the other games, Suppan is an innings-eater who is either outstanding or terrible. Carpenter is a guy with loads of talent, but no results till last year. Maddux is a wily veteran who still can get it done. Josh Fogg is a so-so guy, and we beat him. And finally there's Dessens, who isn't very good. But unfortunately he plays for the hottest team in the game. So my point is that we're losing in very frustrating ways and playing poor defense, but we're also not facing a lot of back of the rotation guys. And look at the teams we've played. Astros, Dodgers, Cubs, Pirates, and Cardinals. Only one of those teams has a weaker lineup than us, and that's the Pirates. I may not have made my point very clearly, but I'm saying we just need to relax. The Brewers will be fine. We beat up on the Pirates. Yes, it's frustrating how we're losing, but if you looked at the projected lineups and pitching matchups each day, it would makes sense why we're only 5-9.
  12. this may be the least apetizing menu of the year so far. Hopefully they surprise us
  13. four wild pitches included in Tim Dillard's rough night Mass, makes me wonder if maybe Palmisano just had a rough night. We know he has a good sinker, but I wonder if a bunch were sinkers in the dirt that Lou just didn't block well. As for the non-descript part, I don't get it really. We're talking about a squad with Anderson, Palmisano, Heether, and Sollmann. It'd be easier to get excited, but the only one doing decently is Anderson, and even then it's not like he's clubbing homers. Some others (Deevers, De La Cruz) may be playing at a level too high, but that WV squad is about as young as they get. Ideally a couple in WV do so well that in June they're looking at promotions...looking specifically at Richardson, Iribarren.
  14. While theoretically I think Chad Moeller is a fine backup Catcher, I have to say I was mighty impressed with Mosquera this spring. The guy probably runs as fast as any of our big league outfielders. Still, I just don't know what moves we can make right now.
  15. For a "top-notch" defensive outfielder, Jenkins sure makes a lot of ridiculous plays in the field. Bobbles, overthrow the cutoff, etc. deeswan, his range is so bad that I think Jenks is one of the most overrated OF's in the game. Doesn't get to many balls. It's been telling this last week. We've seen the Card's athletic OF running all over the place, and we have three players with below avg range for their positions manning our OF. Clark has range for a corner outfielder, not for a CF. And Jenkins and Lee are just trucks out there
  16. Moeller is a complete idiot. He calls for two straight high fastballs when even Schroeder knows Ben has trouble throwing that pitch. yeah, today he's not quite getting that pitch up enough. Normally it's his bread and butter
  17. Why the HELL is Jeff Cirillo starting? This is just asinine well, didn't think I'd see you in the Helms crowd, but Jeff has been pretty aweful. Has he just seen three pitches tonight? Tonight we find out that Branyan should start about 90% of the time, once he's healthy. Jeff is a PH, that's it. After opening day, I had to say I thought maybe we'd see a Jeff that was healthy for the first time in a few years. Maybe it isn't health, maybe he's just that bad now. As for Clark, as the article online notes he's now 2-3 on steal attempts this year. and Jenkins doing his best Magruder impersonation out there tonight
  18. Branyan back Friday means he will have missed a week...no need to put him on the DL when we have 2 other 3b As for Ben, what's he throwing? I saw about 4 pitches that I swear were changeups. That's rare, especially in the first.
  19. brettac, while it's unfortunate, this is what some of us were hoping for. This is Jeff Cirillo's chance to prove he has something left and deserves to be on the roster all year. Russell should be fine and will be back soon, but it would have been a shame having Cirillo only pinch hitting while some of us were curious if he was recovered phyisically or mentally (or whatever really happened). If he's a sub-.250 hitter, we'll have an idea soon. If he deserves 60-70 starts, we'll know soon
  20. I wonder why Billy Hall. Hardy had a nice hit and looked better at the plate, except for the botched Suicide squeeze. Versus a strikeout pitcher in Oswalt, Hardy may be the better choice. Of course, we're in the Juicebox, and as others have said maybe we should have Hall start on Sheets' days
  21. first off, Obie in Houston might be fine with his GO tendency vs Sheets FO tendency. Secondly, didn't Obie shut down the Astros last Sept?
  22. wow, just checked the site...great job today by all. It was really a treat reading the comments and whatnot for all 3 early games. Hopefully the bats are waking up. Especially nice to see some of the fringe prospects have good days--guys like Richardson and Gwynn.
  23. wow, talk about a unique OF in West Virginia. Isn't that two 2b in the OF? Reminds me of when I saw HD a few years back and they were playing something like 5 middle infielders at a time
  24. Sarfat'es K:BB is now 24:3 and the Huntsville big 3 is a combined 54:8, at around 7 to 1! Parra goes next time (I think), and needs 6+ strikeouts and 1 or fewer walks to keep pace with the other two
  25. as mentioned, our pen is limited. Figure we've gone through De La Rosa, Turnbow, Adams, and Phelps. That's 4 of our 7 relievers. Obermueller starts tomorrow. So we have Wise and Bottalico left. Although, If Sheets is going to be sick for about 6 days, we could always DL him, call someone up, and Sheets would be able to be activated in about 9 days. Or we could just send down Phelps and replace him with Housman and have him start tomorrow, then go to the pen
