  1. and it's the home run inning...make someone a winner Russell
  2. Btw, anyone else find it interesting, the new kind of suspense that comes with following the game on MLB.com's Gameday... the last 2 at-bats for Branyan, it goes "In play, run-scoring play"... and then for some intolerably long moments I'm like WHAT IS IT? WHAT IS IT?? PLEASE SAY HOMERUN. put me in that group too. I was telling a friend online that it's 2-0 on the Muscle, and he's obviously swinging for it. Then I saw "ball in play" and started dancing, then heard Ueck
  3. Jenkins got a hit!!!! The Jenkins 5TO: strikeout on high heater, strikeout on breaking ball in the dirt, strikeout looking, groundout to the right side, and flare, dribbler, or cueshot for basehit
  4. 50 pitches through 3 innings isn't bad. It's a pace for 6-7 innings. I'd like a short inning here, putting him at about 62 for 4 innings.
  5. right now I'm feeling good about starting Branyan over Eric Chavez today
  6. I have a feeling Russell may hit another jack this game, and get a double...oh, and a walk, too
  7. I also hope Cappy eats up some innings tomarrow, because when Glover throws, it may turn into a game where the pen just takes turns pitching like the 5th starter spot called for when Wise started last year. I hope not. First off, Cappy goes on Wed, not tomorrow. Glover goes tomorrow. Secondly, I'm interested in seeing Glover. In his outing Friday he was throwing 92-93 with an incredible looking cutter/slurve/slider.
  8. was Jenkins at least swinging at strikes?
  9. wow, really taken out of context. I think we all know what is meant. Most here follow the entire organization and have grown up with the heart-break. It's fun follow the entire organization. But do you think Yankees or Red Sox fans care what is happening in AAA, let alone A? Or as they get good, maybe the diehards like us will be pushed aside. But the way it was written in the paper seems to imply that Brian enjoys the Brewers being the mediocre at best. still, always nice to get mentioned in the paper
  10. First off, I was looking at the 2004 signings thread and couldn't figure out all the Canadians. I know some are taking the DFE route, but some signed. Have any appeared in games yet? I'm really intrigued by Periard, just as many others. Also, are there any other major Canadian prospects for 2005?
  11. I'm not a huge follower of these players this early, but I do have my simple thoughts. -I look forward to seeing the scouting video on this Romero kid. -Last year I asked a simple question...who looks and pitches the most like Sheets. The answer was a Righty from BC, I think Lambert. So I'd like to pose that question again. -My philosophy this year is I'd like a high impact HS hitter or--at this point--Romero. As I've said before, I'd avoid Catchers at all costs. Every catcher we draft in the top 15 rounds is a wasted Hart or Hendrickson. I'd rather focus on developing defensive catchers and just make it a point of trading for or signing offensive catchers. So I see this playing out as a perfect 5-5 split of pitchers-hitters in the first 11 rounds. I just think college hitters might try to ask for a lot, whereas HS hitters and college pitchers is the way to go. Of course, I'm never afraid to draft a HS arm if they look good (last year I thought Bailey and Rogers looked the best in their videos of the top 10-15 pitchers). Hopefully the true draft preview guys can be more specific. I just have more general philosophies to follow.
  12. I think that we just need to give these guys some time. I wish we still had Travis Hinton at 1b in AA, but we don't. Still, we have a lineup full of guys that either have hit in the past or have something to prove. Over the course of the year, we should see Rottino, Gwynn, N. Cruz, E. Cruz, and others hit decently. The A squads just need guys like Anderson, Mannon, Palmisano, Sollman, Rasheed, Festa, Moss, Heether, Iribarren, et al to start performing like they are capable of. I'm not asking for breakout years, just solid seasons.
  13. Branyan can play OF. But the reality of the situation is that we need Jenkins. Hart isn't ready. Nelson isn't ready. Cruz isn't ready. And I still think Magruder's defense is only good when compared with Roger Cedeno and Scott Podsednik. I just don't feel comfortable at all with Magruder in the field, especially late in games.
  14. Turnbow still looks unimpressive like in Spring Training. Sure he throws hard. Sure he has movement. But on about 2/3rds of his pitches he has no idea where the ball will go. Miller is moving all over the place after he's set up.
  15. Here's hoping Jenkins and Branyan switch spots in the order tomorrow. Won't happen cause Jenks has a fragile ego, but I can hope
  16. he should have been bunting there. With Overbay on 2nd, not sure he can score on many singles. We needed him at 3rd and no chance of a GiDP.
  17. Nice to see Nelson hitting well early on. Hopefully he's fully healed from his injury and ready to mash again this year. he's also drawn more walks than K's in the early going. I wonder if someone sat down with the AAA kids and told them the importance of walking
  18. wow, Hall took a tough 3rd ball about an inch off the plate, then he came back and took ball 4 which appeared over the plate at the knees
  19. important at bat here for Russell to stay .400 or above
  20. wow, great job there kid. Too bad he was used as a reliever most of the spring. 46 pitches in 2 innings, but I hate to take out a pitcher when he's dealing. guess obermueller will be up soon
  21. come on, give him the high cheese
  22. ball 4...not the worst outcome. Just go right after Barrett.
  23. I haven't seen any off the plate called strikes yet today. They're all catching a bit of the black as far as I can tell, unless the camera angle is different from the usual edtit: sure enough, the 1-0 pitch to Nomar was off the plate
  24. now up Miller batting .545 and Branyan at .400. I like our chances
  25. Lee sure didn't go into 2nd as if his wife was there
