  1. Counsell does a nice job. I really liked Ned. Insiders told me that he made few pitching decisions, but rather most were Maddux. When people would say “why didn’t we use X pitcher?”, we nearly always heard in the post game presser than the guy was unavailable. Ned and Maddux were the first coaches we had that tracked every ball a pitcher threw. If a guy warmed up twice in a game, they counted those as pitches that would require rest another day. Now that thinking is mainstream. As I said, I like Counsell. I’ve heard he’s not committed to Milwaukee like we think, and is prepared to leave if there are disputes between the front office or if he’s not paid like he thinks he deserves
  2. Was there command? He’s normally wild in the zone. He threw 38 pitches, only 24 strikes. And he allowed 2 hits before striking out the side. You have his line wrong.

  5. Again, Zavolas is not a late bloomer. He was drafted by the Mariners LAST YEAR! People are looking at age like he was a castoff. The Brewers nearly drafted him and desired him the entire time. He’s younger than Mike Fiers at this point, although he had a crazy strikeout rate
  6. What’s wrong with moving to the country? The negative environmental externalities? At some point, I think you’ll see the gas tax go up to discourage long commutes. Not sure of negative environmental externalities. The modern internal combustion engine, when properly maintained, emits almost no pollutants. 95% of all pollution from cars comes from the worst (oldest, poorly maintained, or doctored for performance) 5% of vehicles. Also the gas tax probably won’t go up (although it should have years ago). We’ll follow Oregon’s experiment and institute a driving fee where we are assessed for our mileage. As electric and hybrid vehicles continue to grow in use, we find that these heavy vehicles contribute to the wear and tear on roads, but pay minimal-to-no road maintenance fees via gas tax. That needs to be fixed by shifting from gas tax to mileage fees.
  7. Given their poor season, the Ms’s would absolutely like to return their purchase
  8. Some people think rookies and young players are inherently better. Hiura is a big leaguer for hitting, but he plays pretty good defense for a DH. He’s a better 2b than Weeks was...that’s not a compliment
  9. Pretty weird situation. I haven't updated my password in a long time. Every week or so my devices require me to log-in. Today my computer started telling my my password was invalid. I checked keychain and it's the same password on my phone and my computer. So I just submitted a password reset request, and now the new one works. Not sure what happened
  10. I've always called these "Cal Eldred" outings. You know, where the reporter asks what happened that he allowed 6 runs on 8 hits in 2 2/3 innings, and the pitcher goes "I'll take that stuff out there any day of the week."
  11. Ya, I never understood the idea that Miller Park was an ban box, offensive park. That reality may have been distorted by the utter crap pitching we had the first decade or so of it's existence coupled with always seeming to have a couple big time sluggers like Sexon, Jenkins, Burnitz, Prince, Braun, etc. Don't forget, our pitching staffs helped pad opponents HR totals as well. One stat I'd like to look at is extra base hits. It seems rare when the Brewers have more doubles+triples than homers. Yet we've had several games where we get doubled to death. While our homers are good, doubles are often part of sustained rallies. So are our doubles down compared to prior years or opponents? We rank 6th in homers, but we rank 20th in doubles and 28th in triples. We're 11th in SLG. So our homers are good, but we're not scoring enough runs off them as stated by the tremendous statistical information posted previously. We're also clearly hot hitting enough other extra base hits.
  12. woah, both AZL teams may win on the same night?!?!? Crazy looking up and down our farm system and seeing so many talented guys with low averages--Ray, Stokes, Erceg, Turang, McClanahan, etc etc etc. Besides Grisham and Hiura, we don't have many guys that get lots of hits.
  13. Don't you mean that it could keep one of them around?
  14. The only reason we aren’t talking about Peralta’s awful year is because we’re talking about Burnes’ year. Both should start next year in San Antonio
  15. Dude, we’re without our top 5 starters from before the season.
  16. If that is true, that is complete failure on the part of the Brewers. Shame on them. It was a “i have heard from several people that are friends with X, that it was all about money”. I won’t reveal X
  17. Andrews is a good call. Hard to ignore a guy who's in AA barely a year after being drafted, and I'm sure the Brewers will want to see how his short frame plays against more elite hitters. I wonder if they'd ever send him trying to get him some more reps hitting and in the field. Only getting 3-4 PAs per week and has only gotten in the outfield a couple times in AA, but he's done well. The Brewers could ask the coaching staff to work him in drills, but there would be no guarantee of playing time since most positions are filled with priority players. Still, one year when I worked in the fall league we were joking that with nearly all of our middle infielders injured, when would we have to suit up and play?! So it’s always possible he could DH or play a little
  18. I was shocked Brewers fans were so willing to look past Yo driving at 3 times the legal limit, while welcoming K-Rod, and yet criticizing Braun for his minor issue. I don’t mind this deal. But he clearly has a drinking problem. I think I know one person that has ever gotten a DUI. It should be unacceptable. He should never be allowed to drive again
  19. Doug Melvin always talked about the variability of relievers year to year. Jeffress is a perfect example, although he’s been outstanding lately. I don’t know, has Anderson improved? He had a very solid 2018, except for his inability to prevent homers. Woodruff’s improvement became obvious last Sept/October as he learned to attack hitters. I’m indifferent with Hook. We’ve heard some nice things. A rumor I recently heard is that DJ wasn’t primarily interested in being closer to family, rather he made his decision based solely on money. He gave the Brewers a chance to match it, and they opted not to.
  20. So when stores slice turkey in the deli, where is the dark meat? Cold cut turkey is so boring and bland...where's the good stuff?
  21. Gatewood inching closer to the Uecker line.
  22. Ray would make perfect sense to send. He's had one good minor league season, and this year has been lost due to injury and ineffectiveness.
