  1. Seems like Brewers fans feel this way every time a veteran comes around. The vast majority declared Hamels and Verlander done and washed up. Often times these veterans get re-invigorated with being on a good team.
  2. wow tr, those are pretty crazy! I drove from AZ to MT a few weeks ago, and I'm using my cruise control the entire time on highways that aren't busy but have 65-80mph speed limits. There were some cars that flew up on my several times because they would speed up, move over, then slow down. Why did they need to pass me? Also, I hate it when cars drive at the same speed as me but on my rear bumpers. In drivers ed 20-something years ago, this was a scenario where we were told to tap the horn gently. Then again, we were told to tap the horn in many circumstances that might get someone shot these days.
  3. Or at his age, history, and full year of recovery from surgery, perhaps back to starting.
  4. Before he came in, I did a double take. I had forgotten Albers was on the team still. As we get Chacin back, Freddy needs to go to AAA. When Gio is back, perhaps Burnes joins him
  5. That's a really weird corner there. He almost smacked into the padded wall, then jumped and just missed it. Throw in that the ball was slicing a lot, that's tough
  6. No, Matt had more power. Matt Gamel was more Shaw than Ben. add a lot more batting avg. Mat was supposed to hit .280+ with 20-25 hr and nice obp
  7. a little awkward on that play at the plate. If it were closer, we could have appealed that they were blocking the plate before the throw.
  8. agreed. I think it's mental. We've seen this so many times. I think he just needs to keep focusing on hitting it up the middle and the other way.
  9. Nelson should have started this game. Instead they push him back to sat 10 days between starts, when he needs to pitch to work out command issues. Puzzling pitching decisions lately by this team. I wouldn't say we know this at all. Jimmy is rebuilding strength and command, and can do that working in the pen. 10 days off would yield 2-4 strong side sessions in a controlled environment. Heck, for all we know he may be available for 2 innings today or tomorrow.
  10. Nomar was an unsigned 5th round pick for us in 1991. You really can find that that list everywhere. A 16th round flyer on a 3/4 round talent out of high school that dropped due to signability could turn out to be a Rodon or a complete bust when he comes back out. One of my buddies was drafted out of high school & he decided to head of to his D1 scholarship for one of the top programs in country. Ended up with multiple surgeries to his shoulder and elbow. Never really stayed on field enough to get 2nd chance. That is the risk everyone of these kids take. Injuries, performance, playing time could a cost them their future. There was a good article about Nomar a few years ago where it said the deal was basically done. I can't remember why it fell through. Don't forget Alex Fernandez--he was awesome.
  11. didn't you say we had something like 6 potential aces? I've taken things with a grain of salt since then. regardless, love seeing the enthusiasm. I remember my days in college spending lots of time on this site, posting a crap ton. Of course, back then it was all about the Link Report and the minor league forum, as our MLB teams were pretty bad.
  12. When he's added to the 40-man this offseason, we'll have him for at least 3 more years.
  13. People harp on age way too much. 24 for one player does not equal 24 for another. Why do you think Latin players make it to the MLB level so fast? They get to sign contracts at 16 and have world class coaches and facilities. Or another point based on what you're saying. Nelson Cruz didn't learn plate discipline and pitch recognition until his mid-20s and had most MLB teams passing on him. The growth curve for every player is different. I remember really liking Haniger in the minors (based on stats and adjustments, not scouting reports) and viewed him as a legit prospect, while I thought of Parra as a weak hitting defensive OF. In the end, the trade turned out good, especially considering we landed Davies. Haniger took a lot of time to develop. There's this myth out there that guys need to be in the majors by 22-23.
  14. These are really what external hard drives are made for You could also transfer from itunes to Google Play if you wanted. I’m pretty sure Apple’s Music app covers this. confirmed: from the USAToday network of papers today "This change will occur automatically with the release of the next MacOS (code name Catalina) in fall 2019. Those that choose to install the updated OS will have their music, podcasts and TV shows transferred to each of the associated apps. Playlists, smart playlists and music that you ripped from your CDs will all show up in the Music app. You’ll still be able to buy music from the iTunes Store, and iTunes gift cards will continue to work as they do today."
  15. I'm not talking about him being wild with his breaking stuff, I'm talking about just the way the pitches moved. Hist fastball used to have that late movement...I just didn't know what they meant by his fastball has different movement and it's affecting his breaking stuff when I heard it. It was hard not to see the difference from watching it. This could go down as one of the saddest-non career-ending injuries I've seen. The guy was on the precipice of becoming a perennial all-star, an ace, the first we'd developed since Sheets and he gets hurt sliding back into first...and it's right when the one thing the Brewers are lacking in their window to compete is a big ace who can throw 200 IP a season and start the big games. Sure hoping he can continue to strengthen that shoulder and keep getting better. While I agree with much of what you said, Jimmy has come back far stronger than I anticipated. Shoulder injuries are often career ending and have robbed some of the greatest pitchers of the last 20 years of further excellence. Pedro Martinez, Ramon Martinez, Alex Fernandez, Mark Mulder, Mark Prior, and many others. I thought his stuff was very encouraging, although I have concerns about stamina and if his old mentality will thrive with his new arsenal
  16. Trading Burnes now is like the Dbacks trading Scherzer for Edwin Jackson.
  17. I'm intrigued by what was done. But I've been burned by all the college hitters that thrived in Helena and failed miserable above that. I will find things to like about the kids this summer, but I will temper my enthusiasm for the future until some guys show results. Festa, Richardson, Scott, and many others have burned me.
  18. yes, but all of MLB is doing that as well.
  19. Nice to see Gabriel Garcia playing much better this year. I had a lot of hope for him at 1b/3b after his 2016-17 seasons in Rookie ball, but last year was a struggle in Appleton. He's always shown good OBP skills, and it sure would be nice to see him get that avg around .250 (would mean .400 obp)
  20. what about the year where we were ultra aggressive and took a bunch of high profile HS kids, but none signed. Was that 2011 with Rodon?
