  1. I'm sure our front office has lots of options for now. Last year they showed they were willing to take minor league prospects with good stuff and letting them get extra seasoning in the big league pen rather than AA/AAA. Peralta, Burnes, and Woodruff deserve to get a minimum of 6 turns in the rotation. I think Hauser could be a candidate to help Chase Anderson serve as long relievers when the kids struggle to go past 4 innings. As the Brewers evaluate Jimmy Nelson's status, I could see them deciding the best way to limit his innings is to pitch 2-3 innings every 4th day. Our pen is a bit of a weak spot now, but that may change soon.
  2. I have a major issue with this argument. It assumes we gave up on him. We packaged him to get a quality big leaguer.
  3. I won’t give up on Wilkerson. He’s been so good in the minors, he likely just needs big league opportunities. Williams hasn’t been very good since early in 2018. If Hauser weren’t needed to be stretched out in case of injury, I’d want him in the pen
  4. I disagree. If he’s not going to get the contract he wants, then I think he is willing to pull a Roger Clemens and wait until the right offer and the right team become one. I think teams remember how that worked out for the Yankees, and how all the super-late pitcher signings bombed last year. I think he's playing his cards wrong, but would also buy the theory that he's hurt. The multiple times Clemens did it, it worked out well for Roger, The Astros, and the Yankees
  5. Kind of crazy to think back and remember that Houser and Santana weren’t the centerpiece players in the Gomez trade, yet they both looked primed for a nice run.
  6. I disagree. If he’s not going to get the contract he wants, then I think he is willing to pull a Roger Clemens and wait until the right offer and the right team become one. If the Brewers are in first place on May 1st and offer the opportunity to be at least a part-time closer, he should accept. If he’s not getting 5 yrs and $100m, then I do t blame him for not signing yet. He has an opportunity to watch the first start of the season, watch team performance, and evaluate opportunities. I think he signs around May 1
  7. Here’s my list of guys who had major shoulder surgery and came back as good or better: Mike Adams So while I’m optimistic for Jimmy, I am not expecting 2017 Jimmy until I see it in games.
  8. This makes you sound VERY young. Some names here: Teddy Higuera Ramon Martinez Alex Fernandez Pedro Martinez Nick Neugebauer (he's a stretch for this list) Jeff D'Amico Mark Mulder These guys were all studs (or Neugy and D'Amico, who had the potential to be). They all had major shoulder surgery, and none were the same after the surgery. I REALLY am optimistic for Nelson. But I also am not expecting too much. I am really hoping we don't see Jimmy until June. The longer we wait, the more likely it is he can contribute in Sept. If he's pitching for us in May, he'll need to be shutdown in August.
  9. Wow, that's two totally different pitchers. Yo had a dynamite changeup and curveball as a rookie, as was known for pounding the zone with all 3 pitches. He later added the slider and pretty much eliminated the changeup. Peralta has trouble usually throwing strikes, and is often wild near/within the zone, rarely hitting spots. I definitely like the no-walk version of Peralta, but I'm not expecting it.
  10. Toby, didn't they drop the 10-day DL and return to either 14 or 15 days for 2019?
  11. Isn’t that what Baseball Prospectus or Fangraphs had them at? My Cubs fan coworkers in AZ are panicking.
  12. Wow, that Cain bouncer looked fair. Not sure why the production crew skipped the replay
  13. Not sure what happened there. Arcia still bailed on the ball with his hips and feet, but he got good wood on it.
  14. Arcia is bailing out on pitches. His stride and hips are stepping to LF. He was doing that much of the 1st half of last year. In Sept and Oct he was staying squared to the plate much better
  15. Outliers are most effective. Fastball is a backspin pitch. On fastballs more spin equals more rise. Less spin equals more sink & dive. Just wanted to give the caveat that it's the perception of a rising pitch, as technically Isaac Newton says a ball can't rise.
  16. I complain about it every year in this forum. It's prominent in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Philadelphia in late innings.
  17. His motion is different. He almost looks like he's flicking it up there like a knuckleball instead of finishing pitches
  18. what's weird is this isn't the Davies we saw in '16, 17, or 18. Not sure if this is a new strategy or what. He used to pound the zone with 90-93mph sinkers and mix in the other pitches.
  19. A little worried that his fastball has been 86-89 instead of 89-93 in past years
  20. What's weird is that I remember the early years of Yo being extremely efficient, often going 6-7 IP on nice pitch counts. If just seemed that as he lost velocity and his curve, be became more of a nibbler. I loved how early in his career he had an uncanny knack to strikeout guys looking.
  21. I wish every place took Apple Pay, as I appreciate the safety and speed. I believe Android Pay works the same way with tokenization.
  22. A little before my time, as I took interest in the Brewers in the 07 season. Seemed like Sheets was always hurt. Arguably the best pitcher in team history. His 2004 season was Cy Young Award worthy.
  23. I miss Sheets batting. It made me feel like there was a big leaguer I could out-hit. I always loved his interviews after he had a hit in a game
  24. It’s obvious to see the intensity on Woodruff’s face. Last year he really learned how to attack hitters. Love his arsenal.
