  1. I wouldn't mind Tommy Hunter, if healthy. He was filthy as a young kid. He may have a renaissance in his 30s.
  2. Peterson played regularly for several weeks and his numbers dropped off dramatically. Given Logan offers superior defense, it's worth seeing what he can do with regular playing time. Yes he got a chance a few years back, but by that logic Carlos Gomez shouldn't have gotten a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th chance in MLB
  3. Outlander, I agree. My post was a venting a little frustration. Some things that bother me on brewerfan.net when discussing trades: - people think that it's always stupid to trade young players under team control - people think that players never will return to form following injuries or bad seasons - we should only trade players after 5 years of service time. Davis is not a keeper. He is a flawed player. We should maximize the value we get out of him, be it on the field or in a trade. He seems like a guy the A's or Rays would love. I've defended his defense at times, but if we look at the sheer numbers, he's expendable. Unless the Brewers are serious about Santana in CF, Davis is our 3rd best corner outfielder.
  4. It's foolish to not consider trading him. Davis isn't a part of the future of this club. He's flashed enough potential that maybe a team will overpay for those cheap years. If the return is right, this is a no-brainer
  5. igor67, I have a hard time believing that. I knew new teachers that took 6-8 years of applying to find jobs because of a lack of turnover. Even now my friends in WI make plenty more than my district would ever allow. It's a small sample, but my friends and their wives have generous compensation packages there. That would lead me to think there can be no shortage (34 year old friends and their wives making $55-85,000, and one wife works 1/2 time making $25,000). Besides that, my fiancé and I are happy in Arizona. I know AZ ranks last in funding education, but salaries there are 25-110% more than here. Throw in that I'd hate to start over with pension standing But back to baseball. I always felt bad for the low draft picks and undrafted guys in the AFL. It made me happy to see several get time in the bigs.
  6. I don't get the teacher comparison. Student teaching is like high school or college baseball in that you're doing the work but actually paying for it. A student teacher is not legally a professional teacher hired with a contract. As for teacher pay...that's another issue, and I'm extremely jealous of Wisconsin teachers. At least I don't have to shovel my driveway though!
  7. Given Green's lack of PT this year (and lack of production) I have to assume he was sort of a player/coach
  8. Lind will be coming off a very good year, and I happen to think a Clark/Rogers platoon could out-produce him at a fraction of the cost, while adding prospect(s) to the system.
  9. With Mark Texeira out for the season and the Yankees wanting to make a run in the post-season, I hope we're considering trying to get whatever we can from them for Lind. His contract status in '16, affordability, and productivity would make him a good fit.
  10. MNBrew, part of the reason I like Clark is that young sluggers don't always produce at age 23. Sometimes it takes till 26-30. Think Jose Bautista, Nelson Cruz, Jose Guillen, Edwin Encarnacion, etc. Given that Clark could likely hit at least .260/.330/.440, he'd be exactly what we need....cheap production. As he improves and gets more expensive, he can be dealt. I'm also tired of hearing that Rogers can't play 3b. Yes, he's not ideal over 162-games. But in 10-20 games a year, his offense will likely overcome shortcomings.
  11. What spot was he picked? You just proved our point!
  12. I'd like it to be Matt Clark. He and Rogers deserve to play. Both are entering their primes. Lind will likely be dealt.
  13. I understand the argument of tanking in order to get a better draft pick. But personally I'd rather us do our best to win every game. Too many years of bad teams...I want competitive. Maybe I'm weird, but I don't care about winning the World Series. I care about being competitive and fun to watch. I don't need to try to constantly tear it down and rebuild
  14. What never got much press is that Garza had a great stretch following the all-star break. He's a solid veteran and bounce back candidate.
  15. I hadn't realized Ortega was bumped to AAA. Awesome. Given Wagner is on the 40-man, I expect him back. I also could see Lopez and Ortega. While the organization may say Garza is back next year, I think there's a very decent chance we try to deal him and $15million for a decent prospect.
  16. very inappropriate comment there. No article mentioned anything about MLBPA, yet you chose to make it personal and political.
  17. paul253, rebuilding for 2017 means getting those kids to the big leagues in 2016 for time to make adjustments.
  18. I have no problem with optimism. I just can't say I support handing Davis the job in LF. I've long been a Peralta fan, but if he has a great start to next year I'd consider seeing if we can deal him for multiple prospects. It's sort of the A's/Rays ways of getting 3-5 years out of a pitcher and then moving him. I really like Santana. I keep thinking of how he profiles similar to a better performing version of Nelson Cruz (for his age). Our bullpen is looking strong. SS will be fine. I'm not worried like so many about 3b. Realistically, the prototypical 3b just doesn't seem to exist these days. If we can find a Bill Mueller or Jeff Cirillo-type (good D, nice obp), then I'd be very happy.
  19. Clark and Rogers deserve chances in Sept. While Lind has performed well, he could probably be flipped in the off-season for another 1-2 prospects.
  20. I'd imagine Phillips or Reed is our priority player, but both will play a lot
  21. Can always add them to 40-man, then after the Rule V5 draft outright them to the minors...they've done that before
  22. it's likely a team that wanted him, but didn't want to give up anything.
  23. yep, they are all-star teams. I remember making ElmBrook Little League's all-star team all three years for 13-15 year olds. My numbers were sick! I used to dare the other teams to throw more strikes than balls, and I remember one year having something like 35 hits and 40+ walks in a roughly 20 game schedule. Never could make the high school team. I was 5'7" and versatile, but didn't throw hard, wasn't the fastest, and had only singles/doubles power. Didn't help that my vision was slipping and I struggled to see a yellow ball against a green batting cage background in February tryouts in a gym. Put me with a white ball or outside and I would have been fine. Not that I'm bitter or anything.
  24. homer, wasn't that 2 or 3 years ago?
